I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately and I wonder if others feel the same. With everything going on, from the arrival of illegal migrants in small boats to a government that seems powerless, and with Farage gaining popularity because people are fed up, it feels like tension is rising across the country.

People are frustrated. You try to raise concerns and are instantly labelled a racist or bigot, even when your worries are about integration, safety, and national identity, not race. It feels like any honest conversation is being shut down.

There are parts of the UK where people who were born and raised here no longer feel at home. In some areas, if you are not part of the dominant local community, you can feel completely out of place or even unsafe walking alone at night. That is not right in your own country.

It is not just about people coming from Muslim-majority countries or those arriving illegally. There are also large numbers of Eastern Europeans, including Bulgarians, Romanians, and Russians. Many work hard and contribute, but there are also communities forming where people keep to themselves, speak no English, and make no effort to integrate. Some of these areas are experiencing rising antisocial behaviour, crime, and a breakdown of community life.

You can find videos online showing the state of some of these areas, with rubbish piling up, people ignoring the rules, and no sign of enforcement. It looks lawless, and it often is. But speaking about it honestly is considered of limits.

I live next to a Muslim family and they are wonderful people. Friendly, respectful, hardworking. So this is not about judging individuals. This is about a wider pattern where people are arriving, not integrating, and changing the fabric of our country in ways no one voted for.

We are a Christian country with our own traditions, values, and way of life. Why is it seen as wrong to want to preserve that? If we moved to Saudi Arabia, Bulgaria, or Russia, we would be expected to adapt to their culture. So why is it unacceptable to ask the same here?

The anger and division in this country are growing. I do not want unrest or conflict, but I cannot ignore what feels like a serious shift. When ordinary people feel ignored for too long, things eventually boil over.

Is anyone else feeling this? Or are we just not allowed to talk about it anymore?

What will the police do re the plan to overwhelm I wonder.

Antifa overwhelming the police lol

You do love a drama don’t you. Any drama as long as it’s the right drama

Dymaxion · 04/08/2025 22:48

According to over40s, my ancestors existed on nothing but chicken nuggets and crispy pancakes until more enlightened cultures graced us with their presence.

Enlightened cultures ? Like the Romans ? What did they ever do for us ? Grin

I didn’t say ‘antifa’. It’s not something I’m interested in.

and lol because that seems the level on here.

Why do you think you're not allowed talk about it? There's daily threads on here about the same subject. There's numerous newspapers that push the same agenda, news channels, websites, etc. For something you're not allowed talk about, it seems to be everywhere at the moment!

Exactly. When you try to tell people that some immigration is needed you get accused of shutting down the conversation and making people feel awkward, but they are making themselves feel that way.

Definitely nothing. But I'm learning so much tonight. I'm inspired to suggest cheese and pineapple on sticks for the next event at my medieval reenactment society.

I went to a protest.

Your characterisation is out of date I'm afraid. Last years news.

You do realise people can see footage from. Eg the last 48 hours ago via SM these days?

Characterisation is absolutely upto the minute. Shall I give you links from the last few days? Happy to do soSmile

Hopefully they have arrested the organisers, but this mob, to use the vernacular popular here, is enormous.

A strange mix of extremists, students, antifa (they always turn up for a fight, I've been attacked by them at women's rights meetings) and older people.

Dymaxion · 04/08/2025 22:50

I'll bring olives, mozzarella and tomatoes or little peppers on sticks. I'm a canapé kind of girl.

@MistressoftheDarkSide that is a very good idea, we need to take into account those in the struggle who might be on Mounjaro.

The pp does the usual but arresting that many people would be tough.

Nasrine · 04/08/2025 22:52

@NaicePeachJoker

Again - you've mentioned the mosques and the hostels but not said what it is about them that makes you not want to live near them.

The only thing I can think of is that I can't get parked easily at the Lidl next to the largest mosque when it's Friday prayers.. other than that, I can't think of anything. The smaller mosques you'd hardly notice. There's no action around the migrant hostels either, other than the one at the top of the hill sometimes has a few migrants sitting on a wall outside chatting to each other.

Also, once again I didn't say there were no white children at his school. I said there were no white boys in his class. But lots and lots of diversity :-) His best friend were a Kurdish boy, and a kid whose parents were born in Jamaica. There were also African kids (mostly Nigerian, but a couple of Somali kids), a girl from Portugal, one Albanian girl. Just a whole load of lovely children from all over.

Like all poor areas it has a fair amount of crime and quite a few HMO's. But there are more and more white middle class families moving into the area because there are a lot of good schools and decent connections into central London. There are almost no big housing estates, but about 17.5% of people in the area live in socially rented homes. Is that bad? The average family home costs about 500K.

As a working class woman I generally have a more respectful opinion of working class men. All my family are working class men.

@Dymaxion take that back about Christmas cake! I won’t have it! How can I be sarcastic and hyberbolic and get on a Prevent list if you point stuff like that out.

Yep there’s no way this person has ‘Muslim neighbours’.

Yes, I’ve experienced this first hand. There’s a small town not far from where I live that I visit fairly regularly, and the situation there is quite different from what you describe. The area has a large population of Russians, Bulgarians, and Muslims, and there are even shops with signs in the windows that say 'no English.' This isn’t something I’ve picked up from social media it’s what I’ve seen for myself.

So yes, I have experienced it, and honestly, it isn’t a pleasant situation. I just wish everyone could get on!

beelegal · 04/08/2025 22:58

When a country becomes a free for all, when we embrace everything and not protect our values then civil war is inevitable.

We are a Christian country and our values as a nation should be primarily based around Christianity. Not another faith. Individuals should have the freedom to choose and practice their own faith, but the state itself should be basing itself around the Christian beliefs.

Syria, Egypt, Lebanon and Turkey were once all Christian countries. All had civil war.

Thulpelly · 04/08/2025 23:00

No. How would a civil war be fought exactly?

Over40Overdating · 04/08/2025 23:00

@Dymaxion a good if sore reminder to stock up on some leftie craft beers for the mess tent. Made of nettles and pomegranates and stuff. Wash the lentils and canapés down nicely.

You don’t think it would be damaging for a child to be the only kid of his/her race at school? I think you’re pushing the right on, virtuous shtick a bit too far here.

@NaicePeachJoker

"You don’t think it would be damaging for a child to be the only kid of his/her race at school? I think you’re pushing the right on, virtuous shtick a bit too far here."

I'm wondering if you're a bit drunk or something, because you seem to be unable to read my posts properly. I said my son was 'white passing' but has one black grandparent. So my son has been raised in a non-white family. He also wasn't the only white child in his class (I said white boy) or the only white boy/child in his school.

I do accept that it's damaging for children to be exposed to racism and bullying. Luckily for my son this didn't happen.

MrsBennetsPoorNerves · 04/08/2025 23:00

DBSFstupid · 04/08/2025 22:28

Seriously?? Off you go then. To 'elsewhere' in Utopia.

Yes, seriously. I hate what this country has become, and I'm ashamed of many of my compatriots. The racism is so open now.

I can't go anywhere right now, unfortunately, because I have responsibilities for my elderly dad right now. Once he has gone, all bets are off. Especially if the NHS is dismantled and dd chooses to move abroad as well. I don't see any pleasure in hanging around to see the country turned to shit.

There was an interesting article in the Daily Mail today about immigration (quelle surprise!) with one of those interactive maps of the UK. You put in your postcode and it tells you how much the population has grown over the past couple of years, and the number of immigrants/emigrants over that period.

I live in a northern city, and our population has grown by 1%. But interestingly the vast majority of this increase was due to ’internal immigration’ (i.e. British people moving here).

Would this provoke the same “You can’t come here, we’re full” argument? Or are people happy with population growth as long as it’s British people who are moving to their area?

15 years ago there was an influx of supported and sought migration from Poland. We had a building crisis due to a shortage of skilled workers to build two hospitals and many schools in our area. Our Catholic school was in undated with Catholic Polish children. The school treated it like an opportunity for us the to learn and to share. Within a short period of time we had interpretatîon and learning packs put together, helped by the parents of the children joining the school. Staff had key words and phrases to greet and assist the students with their studies, everyone helped in a spirit of welcoming our new students. I didn't hear anyone moan about their arrival or their presence. We've lost something.

Is it right when so many of our police are overwhelmed and attacked and sometimes injured by

Do you support that?

Because I watched that happen only a few days ago as we all did.., and it wasn’t antifa stamping on the police vans was it

Think of what we saw at Glastonbury a few weeks ago

I saw Rod Stewart and that was pretty grim, to be fair.
