To think size 12 isn’t Large?

When I had a bmi of 22 i was a 10-12 I wasn’t large at all but I am medium build and 5’9’’

The average size in the UK and Ireland is a 16.

I would say 12 is medium or possibly small-medium depending on the cut. I would not consider it "large" and I feel surprised that some posters do.

I suppose it depends on the benchmark being used.
If it's based on the average size of all UK women then 12 is probably small-medium or even small with 14-16 medium and 16+ large. (8-10 small and 6-8 extra small.)

If it's based on "normal weight" in the BMI scale then a 12 is more likely classed as medium and people wearing a 14 or above are more likely to fall into the overweight category i.e. "large".

I'm large as in tall. As I am 6ft. But I fit in 12s and I am a slim build. 23 BMI.

Regardless of body shape, vanity sizing etc., it's Vinted that's being annoying as it makes you choose a category that says both 12 and L. But if I'm looking for a dress from Toast (for example), they use both number and letter sizes depending on the garment, but for that brand, the 12 and the L are not the same - their 12 is like their M. There are brands where an L would be a 12, but Vinted acts as though this is all brands. Ebay lets you put the size that's on the label, so you could have either 12 or M, and you can just filter for both and not end up with loads of irrelevant results to sift through.

Yes I got caught out with this as someone was selling something which said XL and they ticked the box which said that so I thought it was a 14 but when it arrived it was like a size 18 and too big for me.. when I sell if I have an item with both the number and letter size and they don't correlate with the vinted sizes, I usually put in the title 'see description about size" and explain there

12- large

You're a perfectly healthy weight and size. 14 is usually large on clothing labels I find

Maybe if you don’t use the app, you don’t realise how frustrating it is that they set L/12 as a category!

I don't think you can go by the size labels unless you know the brand well. I've recently lost 25kg and have gone from wearing mostly size 12, some 14 to mostly size 10, some 12. And depending on brand and garment, I might be wearing small, medium or large!!

Doesn't help for online shopping at all, unfortunately. I agree with @Comedycook that sometimes Vinted can be really misleading as it forces you to select a size but sometimes L means 12 and sometimes it means 16! I try always to include a shot of the label with the size on it, but add a comment like "fits like a size 12" or something like that to try and indicate.

I am the same height as you and weigh exactly 10st and am a size 10 in most places, some places an 8, a 12 would hang off me, isn’t it weird how different we all are!

I think it depends on height. A size 12 on a 4 foot something person would be large. On someone taller- not so much .

I don’t think it’s Vinted… it actually changes depending on what brand you put in. Some will have 12 as large and some 12 is medium

either way… a 12 should not be a large!

Yes, I was a size 12 back in the 80s/90s when I had a 26 inch waist (wistful sigh). A 14 was 28 inches, 16 was 30 and so on.

I'm two and a half stone heavier now and my waist (if you can call it that) is 7 inches wider but I most often find a modern 14 is 'my size', although my clothes that fit range from 10 to 18.

My DD is a size 10/12 and can take a S, M or L! Depends on the cut. I would think she is most usually a M though. She buys a lot through Vinted and usually 10-12, 12 especially if the clothing is older as measurements have increased over the years.
For high street sizes I’d say a S is 6-8, M is 10-12, an L 14-16. XL 18, 2XL 20-22 etc.

Im 5ft8 and was 11.5 stone before pregnancy (now 12.5 😫) That is within the healthy weight so you definitely shouldn't be classed as large sizing.

It depends on shape.. I have a wide skeleton, wide hips and shoulders, long arms etc so I look really slim at 5ft 7, 11.5 stone, size 12.
