Partner got really funny about swimwear I wore to work away day

JadeHoliday · 09/07/2025 11:30

We had a two day work ‘away trip’ last week where one of the bonding things was going to an indoor swimming complex with slides etc. Really fun!

When I got back from this, my partner said ‘you didn’t wear a bikini did you’- which I said I obviously did.

He thinks that’s disrespectful and I should have worn a swim suit ‘rather than have my arse out in front of colleagues’(!)

I told him he can’t control what I wear and he got the hump. He thinks I was trying to make myself attractive and impress colleagues..

Would you say I should have ‘covered up’ or is he being unreasonable

Even when I was very much younger (and I had absolutely no problems showing my body in appropriate settings):

  1. I would not have gone to a work event involving getting undressed.
  2. If I had absolutely had to for some reason, I would have worn a one-piece with shorts.
  3. I would have burned down the office and gone to jail for it rather than wear a thong in front of my colleagues.
Bringyourfoldingchair · 09/07/2025 13:19

A thing bikini to a work event 😂I'm sure you're the talk of the office

theDudesmummy · 09/07/2025 13:19

And if my DH had told me that he had worn a thong to a work meeting I certainly would have had plenty to say to him!

BunnyLake · 09/07/2025 13:19

Personally I hate those thong bikinis and I don’t want to see arses out but I’m older and I know the younger ones seem to love all that. I’d not want to see any work colleagues buttocks thank you, especially not old Mr Jones in accounts 😬

bibliomania · 09/07/2025 13:19

Aren't there....friction issues going down the slide?

Exhibionism seems very popular now, everyone’s attention seeking.

I guess OP would be fine if her husband when to a work event in his budgie smugglers and spent the day surrounded by all the female colleagues peachy arses 😏

Thong bikinis only at beach or outdoor pool.

Bit weird to wear at indoor pool. They're for minimising tan lines.

WhistlingStraits · 09/07/2025 13:24

If this is true - touch to a thong bikini in this environment. No-one wants to see your arse. Put it away and have some class.

EmeraldShamrock000 · 09/07/2025 13:25

JadeHoliday · 09/07/2025 11:33

Yeah it was but I really don’t see the issue

It is your choice. I'd rather die before wearing a bikini around colleagues.
I wouldn't wear one to an indoor swimming pool either.

Thaawtsom · 09/07/2025 13:25

I have just bought an arse-covering swimsuit as I am going somewhere with colleagues with a swimming pool and they may see me in it. (We are not expected to do this together, but it may happen by accident.)

Agree with PP: it's not his business what you wear; having said that I would raise an eybrow at a thong bikini at a work event.

JadeHoliday · 09/07/2025 11:56

It doesn’t need HR approval - in the past we’ve also done things such as bowling, escape room, ninja warrior type course. It was something different and really fun.

Did you have your arse out for those?

At least not for the bowling I hope 😬

theDudesmummy · 09/07/2025 13:25

I was quite an exhibitionist when I was a young hot woman. Always the first to get my gear off on the beach when drunk, dance topless in a club etc etc. I won a wet t-shirt competition at my local bar! No way would I have ever considered wearing a swimsuit in front of work people!

ToClimb · 09/07/2025 13:26

I voted YANBU then saw the update and absolutely think you are! Thong bikinis don't look good on anyone.

wizzywig · 09/07/2025 13:29

I guess it depends on what work you do? Club 18-30 yeah it'd be appropriate.

mrsm43s · 09/07/2025 11:41

Yeah, a thong bikini (or a thong swimsuit for that matter) is totally inappropariate attire for a work away day.

I also think with slides etc, a bikini is a bad choice as it's more likely to slip and slide, hence exposing you.

On a team event, it would be much more appropriate to wear something with full coverage, as no-one wants to see their colleagues arse or cleavage. A modest one piece (with full bum coverage) or a tanktini would be far more appropriate.

A sporty swimsuit would be the most professional attire I think. The kind my gym sells. High cut at the neck so no risk of boob making an unexpected appearance. My preference would be boy short as well or a work event.

Work event at a swimming pool?

fuck no

This. And as by my username I worked in adult entertainment for 20 years! But this is a whole new level-no (normal work) work colleagues need to see my pretty good if I say so myself body in a bikini.

Sod the boyfriend, you're a Maverick OP! Grin

I cant imagine anyone showed up at Bowling with their entire butt cheeks on display though

🥱🎣 nibble

Crikey OP if this really happened your arse must be in tatters going down slides in a thong 🙄

CherryAlmondLattice · 09/07/2025 13:39

I can think of nothing worse than my colleagues in swimwear 😂

But OP isn’t being unreasonable to wear swimwear to a water park.

YourAquaLion · 09/07/2025 13:39

You can wear whatever you like! Kudos to u for rockin a thong bikini, you go girl xx

Work event at a swimming pool?

fuck no

Thought it was just me who thought this…

Couldn’t think of anything worse, and I’m sure some of the women felt the same about it

FOJN · 09/07/2025 13:41

Bikinis were literally invented to maximise tanning so wearing one indoors for any event is weird but a thong bikini at a work event, at a water slide park is a whole other level of strange. A one piece would have been much more appropriate for a work event.

If a man wore thong speedos most people would think he was an exhibitionist and a bit of a perv, you don't get a free pass because you are female. Put your arse away and save it for by the pool on your summer holiday if you must expose it.

sonoonetoldyoulifewasgonnabethisway · 09/07/2025 13:42

How many of you were there? Were there men there? Are you gorgeous? Do you have a great figure? I do think these are relevant questions, but I can honestly see how your husband feels.

I was supposed to go to similar a few years ago and I got that anxious about what I would wear to a spa and being half naked in front of colleagues I ended up saying at the last minute I couldn't go. Actually 3 other colleagues did the same, we didn't see it as appropriate. I asked one colleague why she wasn't going and she said because I want to keep my husband (it was an overnight thing in a mixed lodge) very inappropriate.

theDudesmummy · 09/07/2025 13:42

I am now imagining some of my colleagues in their swim togs...(forty- and fifty-something consultant doctors, mainly male)...I am now not enjoying this and would rather get back to work.
