Partner got really funny about swimwear I wore to work away day

We had a two day work ‘away trip’ last week where one of the bonding things was going to an indoor swimming complex with slides etc. Really fun!

When I got back from this, my partner said ‘you didn’t wear a bikini did you’- which I said I obviously did.

He thinks that’s disrespectful and I should have worn a swim suit ‘rather than have my arse out in front of colleagues’(!)

I told him he can’t control what I wear and he got the hump. He thinks I was trying to make myself attractive and impress colleagues..

Would you say I should have ‘covered up’ or is he being unreasonable

Oh lord a work swimming event with (or indeed without) arse cheeks on show? Hard no.

Champaganesupernova · 09/07/2025 12:04

He has a point , nobody wants to see your full arse out !

JadeHoliday · 09/07/2025 11:33

Yeah it was but I really don’t see the issue

🤣🤣 so you wore a thong bikini in front of your colleagues at a work away day and don’t see there could be anything wrong with this? But you’re tying it up with your partner being controlling around what you wear?
Not sure I entirely believe you .

mindutopia · 09/07/2025 12:06

I wouldn’t wear a thong to a work event. 😳 And Dh would probably be horrified if I did (just like I would be if he wore similar). But he would never say anything and make me feel bad about what I was wearing.

FiveShelties · 09/07/2025 12:07

I just love how posters respond to absolutely absurd threads. Too funny😂

EstherGreenwood63 · 09/07/2025 12:07

Well he is a dick but you are a knob for wearing a fucking thon bikini on a work junket... 😂 PS they look gross.

Ireallycantthinkofagoodone · 09/07/2025 12:07

I wouldn’t have thought a thong bikini was the ideal thing to wear on water slides.

GaspingGekko · 09/07/2025 12:07

How many of your colleagues had a thong bikini on OP?

Deadringer · 09/07/2025 12:07

Your body your choice but personally I think that a thong bikini is not appropriate for a work related day out.

Ugh, I would hate if my husband was parading around in a speedo thong type thing in front of colleagues, I would see it as a bit desperate for attention and exhibitionist imo.

I’d be horrified if my husband was parading around in a thong speedo too, not because it’s attention seeking but because it sounds horrific to look at (even though he’s pretty).

Do men’s thong speedos really exist? I don’t want that image in my google history or my brain.

Ilikemymenlikeilikemycoffee · 09/07/2025 12:09

A bikini is one thing, a thong is another and weird!!

101Alsatians · 09/07/2025 12:09

I got second-hand anxiety just from the prospect of a work swimming event 🤣

zeibesaffron · 09/07/2025 12:09

Thong bikini for work - I am with your DP!
I don’t need to see your arse or anyone else’s I work with!

zanahoria · 09/07/2025 12:10

your arse, your choice

Crikey OP. I wouldn't want my office colleagues seeing my bum cheeks in a thong either. That's just too far. I'd wear a non-indecent swimsuit or a tankini top with shorts.

But if YOU are happy sitting at work knowing that Jim, Dave and Darren are all thinking about your thong bikini, that's up to you. Nothing to do with your DH.

Agree.
OP’s DH is male, so has an innate understanding of the male psyche of his wife’s work colleagues.
OP you can wear what you want obviously, but your DH is allowed to dislike, and express that dislike, of the thought of Jim, Dave and Darren perving over you, his beloved wife, in a thong bikini.
Did you notice if anyone else wore a thong?
How would you feel if the roles were reversed and your DH wore a thong to a work swim?😅
Also unless you all work for Thongs R Us or are actors auditioning for Love Island, I wouldn’t class a thong bikini as appropriate work-jolly attire!

I can’t get this out of my head 😂😂😂

I agree he can't tell you what to wear. Wearing a thong ro a work event is attention seeking.

mrsbitaly · 09/07/2025 12:11

If i was going down slides with a bikini it would end up a thong anyway so makes no difference Hmm

holysmokee · 09/07/2025 12:12

Me either, the thought makes me shudder though 😭😂

I did post the rear view of Borat in a mankini but MNHQ haven’t approved it 😂😂😂😂

Anfieldgirl · 09/07/2025 12:13

If you're honest with yourself though did you wear it because you wanted to show off your body and feel attractive to the others. I don't necessarily think there's anything wrong with that btw but maybe he has a point?

I can't really see why you'd wear a thong to a work event.

InSpainTheRain · 09/07/2025 12:15

I have not been to a swim event at work, but I do sometimes stay in hotels with pools with colleagues and do go to the pool. I make sure it's professio and I'm covered in a swimsuit, I would never wear a thong bikini for it. You do you... but personally I don't think it is professional. With colleagues you want to maintain a good working relationship but not be over friendly.

BusMumsHoliday · 09/07/2025 12:15

I don't believe there was an official, work sponsored employee trip to a water park/swimming pool. It's not accessible, the potential for discomfort is high, it doesn't promote any kind of bonding because you're not working together or cheering each other on. I can just about believe a group of colleagues organised it themselves for fun.

I'm in my 30s and this sounds like it's just below "boat party" in my personal work event circle of hell.

MagpiePi · 09/07/2025 12:16

I once went on a work team bonding thing that was kayaking and raft building. We all wore wetsuits, which was bad enough, but the thought of a trip to a waterpark with colleagues is making my insides shrivel, and I am practically turning inside out with cringe at the thought of wearing a thong bikini in front of colleagues.

Anyone who thinks a thong bikini is appropriate for a waterpark is clearly not worried about bum chafing or their top coming off.
