Partner got really funny about swimwear I wore to work away day

We had a two day work ‘away trip’ last week where one of the bonding things was going to an indoor swimming complex with slides etc. Really fun!

When I got back from this, my partner said ‘you didn’t wear a bikini did you’- which I said I obviously did.

He thinks that’s disrespectful and I should have worn a swim suit ‘rather than have my arse out in front of colleagues’(!)

I told him he can’t control what I wear and he got the hump. He thinks I was trying to make myself attractive and impress colleagues..

Would you say I should have ‘covered up’ or is he being unreasonable

Theres absolutely no way your work trip was at a waterpark / swimming pool. I give you 3 / 10 for effort.

Poetnojo · 09/07/2025 11:53

Ugh, I would hate if my husband was parading around in a speedo thong type thing in front of colleagues, I would see it as a bit desperate for attention and exhibitionist imo.

JadeHoliday · 09/07/2025 11:33

Yeah it was but I really don’t see the issue

Sorry I’m with him if it were a thong bikini not appropriate in front of work colleagues IMO

HTF was this event rubber-stamped by HR?!

Just what I was wondering.

Good point!! I'm certain this kind of thing would never be allowed in my workplace. In-fact nobody would be likely to participate (and we don't have each other on "Insta" either) We must all be very "old school"

Yeah, a thong bikini (or a thong swimsuit for that matter) is totally inappropariate attire for a work away day.

I also think with slides etc, a bikini is a bad choice as it's more likely to slip and slide, hence exposing you.

On a team event, it would be much more appropriate to wear something with full coverage, as no-one wants to see their colleagues arse or cleavage. A modest one piece (with full bum coverage) or a tanktini would be far more appropriate.

As someone who has attended these types events with all different age groups, never have I seen anyone wear even a bikini let alone a thing bikini! (Wasn’t a water park though was a water therapy themed health exercises type activity).

And before anyone jumps on me, this is totally aside of the BF because it’s none of his business want the GF wants to wear on her own work trip. However there is a certain professionalism you’d expect in how you dress for a work event - because although it’s a fun team building event - it’s still a work event the objective is wholly work focussed: to build a stronger and committed workforce. The company’s not paying for a holiday. So I personally would have respected the business professional aspect still and been more modest with a traditional (non cut out) swimsuit or tankini. Sure, wear whatever ‘off duty’ but yeah not in a technically still work context. How you dress in all diffferent circs will contribute to the bigger picture of how ‘in tune’ you are with everything and I think it does all go towards the whole opinion yiur boss/team will have of you.

lovemycbf · 09/07/2025 11:55

I agreed with you until the thong bikini bit .As much as I agree with your body your rules I do think a thong bikini was inappropriate for a work thing

It doesn’t need HR approval - in the past we’ve also done things such as bowling, escape room, ninja warrior type course. It was something different and really fun.

I wouldn't wear a thong bikini anywhere, but especially not on slides, you'll get a sore bum!
(Misses point)

maudelovesharold · 09/07/2025 11:57

Just out of interest, did having your bum in contact with the slides impede your downwards momentum at all?

Sassybooklover · 09/07/2025 11:57

The tiny string bikini with cups that barely cover an egg and have thong bottoms - nope, not to a work event. A bikini top that covers your bust and thong bottoms - nope, not to a work event. A normal bikini that covers your bust properly and bottoms that cover your arse - absolutely, if you're brave enough in front of work colleagues! I would understand your husband's point of view being the bikini has thong bottoms but no to wearing a bikini at all - that's strange. Wearing a bikini doesn't equate to you seeking male attention!! I doubt you'd accuse him of courting female attention if he chose to wear Speedos to the pool rather than swim shorts!

marshmallowfinder · 09/07/2025 11:58

A thong bikini is absolutely inappropriate for this. (Most situations actually. )

Auroraloves · 09/07/2025 11:58

Oh the chafing on your arse! 🙈

Christmasbear1 · 09/07/2025 11:58

I don't understand bikinis, they're basically bra and knickers.

I wear a swim top with swim shorts, then a t shirt on top of my swim top. Mostly cos I have large breasts and they're always spilling out

goldfishbowl2025 · 09/07/2025 11:59

Nah man!! Not a thong bikini?! Why?!!

pizzaHeart · 09/07/2025 11:59

Work event at a swimming pool?

fuck no

This^

And this ^

StrawberrySquash · 09/07/2025 12:00

A waterpark requires something that stays put when there's force applied! Thong bikinis don't fit that criterion.

KnickerlessParsons · 09/07/2025 12:01

I agree with your husband, but I think a trip to a swimming pool is an odd choice for a work do anyway and probably wouldn’t have gone at all. I wouldn’t want to be semi naked in front of any of my work colleagues

Wheezygonzalez · 09/07/2025 12:02

Oh no 😂🫣 a thong bikini at a work do. OP!! I’m all for having fun but yes your partner has a point, thats not suitable at all 😂😂😂

estrogone · 09/07/2025 12:02

Usually I would be 100% team bikini. Then you fessed up to flashing your arse at a work event in a g string.

Completely inappropriate and if I was your partner, I'd probably also be a bit weirded out.

MsCactus · 09/07/2025 12:03

Oh God - imagine if everyone you worked with wore a thong bikini. So grim.

I think a thong bikini to a work function is pretty gross tbh, whether you're a man or woman. But no your DH shouldn't control what you wear

ItsStillWork · 09/07/2025 12:03

I actually don’t believe this thread. No one would attend a work event in a thong bikini, I’m not buying it 🤔

But on the off chance this is a real scenario, the fact you did wear a thong bikini in front of work colleagues and you can’t see a problem with that shows that you have boundary issues.

FrenchandSaunders · 09/07/2025 12:03

Bonding with colleagues in a swimsuit .... I feel quite faint thinking about this going on at my workplace 🤒
