Partner got really funny about swimwear I wore to work away day

We had a two day work ‘away trip’ last week where one of the bonding things was going to an indoor swimming complex with slides etc. Really fun!

When I got back from this, my partner said ‘you didn’t wear a bikini did you’- which I said I obviously did.

He thinks that’s disrespectful and I should have worn a swim suit ‘rather than have my arse out in front of colleagues’(!)

I told him he can’t control what I wear and he got the hump. He thinks I was trying to make myself attractive and impress colleagues..

Would you say I should have ‘covered up’ or is he being unreasonable

He said he’d have had an issue even if I was in a normal bikini

If that's the case, why his comment about "having your arse out" in front of colleagues?

What you did was not very classy, OP... but your choice.

I'm feeling though that you're not being entirely up-front and honest with us. Initially the objection to the bikini was because the thong bottoms left your arse cheeks in full view. Then, after the difference between proper bottoms and a thong was pointed out, all of a sudden even a "normal" bikini with proper bottoms would not have been OK. I'm just not sure about this change in tack...

ThatLoudBear · 09/07/2025 14:51

I may be showing my age here (46 next week!), but I don't think a thong bikini was appropriate for a work related 'fun' event.
Unless the next drip feed is that you're cast and crew of 'Love Island'?!

Bit risky on the water slides I would have thought.

Main risk from a waterslid is a wedgie. She already had her pants up her arse! Maybe genius after all...

Pinepeak2434 · 09/07/2025 14:52

I wouldn’t be getting my arse cheeks out in front of my colleagues, my ex boss was sleezy at the best of time so it would make me feel sick tbh.

Excellent thread OP. 10/10😂

LOL right?

Glitchymn1 · 09/07/2025 14:52

I’d wear a bikini but not a thong/ string type bikini, you must have given everyone an eye full 🫣🤣

JadeHoliday · 09/07/2025 11:51

We’ve all got each other on insta so they’ve seen it all before with holidays pics etc 😂

Did you seriously wear a thong to a work do?!

That’s really funny..

5128gap · 09/07/2025 14:53

You obviously like showing your body and for it to be admired, which many people do. However, wearing a thong in front of your colleagues is a pretty extreme form of admiration seeking, and really needs you to be with a partner who accepts this quirk of your personality, and understands that a need to be admired isn't the same thing as a desire to cheat.

CheerfulBunny · 09/07/2025 14:55

I'm not sure a thong is really appropriate at a regular swimming pool, let alone on a work away day. Not a prude but I feel it's a bit showy-offy.
Holiday - thong is fine, totally up to you. You wouldn't go topless at a work away day, right? Holiday, on the beach - norks out, no worries if you're comfortable with it.

Vedette89 · 09/07/2025 14:56

I don't think Ive ever seen a thong bikini at a waterpark...certainly not in the UK. What on earth 😂 your choice but you must see it's a bit odd surely. Unless you work on love island.

Scottsy200 · 09/07/2025 14:56

A thong on a work event 🤣🤣🤣🤣 he is totally right why would you not just wear a normal bikini ffs

sounds like he knows you quite well

ToffeeCrumble · 09/07/2025 14:58

Colin from Accounts had this on

Rayqueen · 09/07/2025 14:59

I agree your bikini was out of order for a work do tbh

millymae · 09/07/2025 15:00

Sorry, but I have to ask Is this a genuine thread or a school holiday one? If it’s genuine, and you really did wear a thonged bikini on a work away day to a waterpark I agree with your husband.
In general I find it hard to argue with the view that it shouldn’t matter what you wear - your body, your choice after all - but like showing too much cleavage or two much leg in the work place a thonged bikini is just a step too far for the environment you were in.
Perhaps my view of a thonged bikini is coloured by the fact that Love Island is currently on TV and a waterpark with work colleagues is about as far away from that as you can get.

Oh cross posted

Yeah, bit weird to wear a thong bikini to a work event

Yes, not really appropriate for a work event.
Especially if it involved water slides etc

I find the whole trend of thong bikinis totally baffling. I’m yet to see anyone who looks good in them! You can look attractive and sexy in a bikini or swimsuit without your arse being on show!!

Pipsquiggle · 09/07/2025 14:31

I do believe you should be able to wear whatever you want, when you want........... but with this mantra comes self reflection and responsibility.

If you are in a work setting you need to think about how you want to come across, what you wear is a key part of that.

I would not wear this on a team day but that's my choice - I work in a big corporate setting and don't want colleagues seeing my arse. Other workplaces might have a different vibe where this is fine.

Really? I do not think people can "wear what tbey want, when they want" when there are dress codes and decency for other people. I do not get these thong bikinis and need to display so much skin in public even on a beach. We don't need to see other's backsides being in public and I think some countries have it right whatever gender is wearing a thong bikini or little speedos. Wearing a thong one to a work trip isn't appropriate and can see why her boyfriend was upset, but he seems controlling to say about no bikini, but at a work trip wearing one that covers up more is more decent to wear. People who feel a need to have so much flesh on display have issues imo to either get so much outside praise, have their worth wrapped in their looks etc. Thong bikinis are ugly even on the most beautiful 20/30 something. OP, nobody needs to be seeing your ass in public.

*some countries have it right to ban or tell people to wear something over them when not on the beach.

Jamandtoastfortea · 09/07/2025 15:16

Not up to your bf to police what you wear generally. But a thong bikini to an indoor uk water park is unsuitable and even more so with work colleagues. A work event in work time has an element of professionalism and if you want to be taken seriously at work you should dress appropriately. Normal well fitting bikini or swim suit fine, love island wanna be less so!

I guess also it depends what profession you are in OP.

UnimatrixZeroOne · 09/07/2025 15:19

I'm with him. A thong! Jesus. With your butt cheeks on show? Highly inappropriate for a work thing.

We are a fairly young office, most of us are in our 30’s. At least I like to think we are young 😂

Was anyone else wearing a thong?

eqpi4t2hbsnktd · 09/07/2025 14:48

Also, what were your co-workers wearing? Clive from HR in speedos? Claire from IT just nipple tassels?

😂
