Partner got really funny about swimwear I wore to work away day

JadeHoliday · 09/07/2025 11:30

We had a two day work ‘away trip’ last week where one of the bonding things was going to an indoor swimming complex with slides etc. Really fun!

When I got back from this, my partner said ‘you didn’t wear a bikini did you’- which I said I obviously did.

He thinks that’s disrespectful and I should have worn a swim suit ‘rather than have my arse out in front of colleagues’(!)

I told him he can’t control what I wear and he got the hump. He thinks I was trying to make myself attractive and impress colleagues..

Would you say I should have ‘covered up’ or is he being unreasonable

Initially, I voted YANBU. Then I read your update, that you were wearing a thong bikini and you literally did have your arse hanging out.

Changed to YABU. I agree with your husband.

Why on earth would you wear a thong around your work colleagues?

JLou08 · 09/07/2025 14:11

You should have said it was a thong bikini in the OP. That really changes things. Thong bikini is inappropriate and totally unnecessary. I don't know why anyone thinks it acceptable to have their arse out like that anywhere.

ohtowinthelottery · 09/07/2025 13:56

I was also wondering why the heck anyone would wear a thong bikini to a pool with water slides in any event, never mind with work colleagues. Surely you run the risk of friction burns and revealing everything to all and sundry when you hit the water? it's been a very long time since I went to a water park

Last time I went to one. They stipulated wearing full bathing costumes, presumably for that precise reason. Again long time since I went to one though, so who knows ?

Jade247 · 09/07/2025 14:13

I definitely see the issue - it’s inappropriate to wear a thong bikini for a work event !

BuildbyNumbere · 09/07/2025 14:16

Up to you at the end of the day but I wouldn’t have worn a bikini to a work event, plus it was indoor and watersides. Surely one piece would have been better for slides and being indoor anyway?!?
Sure you wasn’t trying to impress anyone??

oldparents · 09/07/2025 14:17

Sorry, but I think this is total CRINGE. I see these thong bikinis (urgh) and it's so obvious that the wearer is crying for attention. I agree with your partner - it's totally inappropriate for a work event. Your female colleagues will have talked about it, for sure. Why would you subject anyone to this? No one wants to see your bum cheeks, except maybe the guys ..... and you know this. That's why you chose that bikini. You know it, I know it, your colleagues know it, your partner knows it. Would you be happy if your boyfriend wore a thong in front of his young female colleagues?

Are thong bikinis really “swimwear” though? Surely they were designed more for sunbathing on a beach and minimising tan lines, and if trying to do much actual swimming they’d be a nightmare.

What was the top half like OP? Guessing teeny weeny triangles?

I don’t believe for a minute that this thread is genuine, but I sometimes wear one when swimming and snorkelling. The bottoms are actually a lot more secure than an ordinary bikini.

Bonbonthechewyone · 09/07/2025 14:20

This may be a reflection on my workplace, but someone rocking up in a thong bikini would be the subject of much hilarity, and would be one of those stories we bond over for the next few years. But you don't say what industry you work in. Just seems so completely unprofessional. You are still 'at work' off site.

Pieceofpurplesky · 09/07/2025 14:21

I would think you were an attention seeker if you wore a thong at a work thing - even if in a swimming pool. Not a work thing, no problem.

sonoonetoldyoulifewasgonnabethisway · 09/07/2025 14:21

If there were 2/4 people there or a group of 50 i would find relevant, also if it was a mixed group. I find it relevant if it was a mixed group or all women.

The is she gorgeous was more aimed at her husband thinks she is and doesn't want her showing her arse off at work.

I am very aware women of all shapes and sizes can have affairs and wear whatever bikinis they want.

Riprap · 09/07/2025 14:23

Can’t believe a working bond event involved a trip to a swimming pool

PopeJoan2 · 09/07/2025 14:24

It is a really bad choice of awayday activity. There would be quite a few people who wouldn’t want to wear swimwear or jump in a pool with colleagues.

I voted yanbu but that was before you said about the thong.

TimeForATerf · 09/07/2025 14:24

I don’t believe a word of this but if it is true, am I the only one that thinks no one in their right mind would go to a water park in a bikini, the force of the rides means that the bottoms often get pulled down. And climbing stairs in a thong with your colleague face in your arse? Nah, not having it.

Brefugee · 09/07/2025 14:26

tbh i don't like seeing my coworker's arse cheeks and am not impressed if they wear thong bikinis to swimming events. Same as i don't like it when the men wear budgie smugglers.

They are for free time and holiday (and even then, i think they are plug ugly, but that's just my opinion, clearly others like them)

I know I’m now old fashioned but I feel really uncomfortable in close quarters with women (or men) in thongs, different at the beach just just feels unnecessary in local swimming or spa days, I don’t understand what the need is, I don’t want to see peoples arse cheeks lol

Interesting! I’d have thought you spend the whole time pulling the string out of your crack, water and movement forcing it up kind of thing.

OliviaVine · 09/07/2025 14:26

I was thinking he's out of order until I read it was a thong bikini. Totally inappropriate, both for a work event and a family water park. Very grim.

Riprap · 09/07/2025 14:27

OP, what is the occupation of your team? Can’t get over a work team trip to a swimming pool @JadeHoliday

Yeah it was but I really don’t see the issue

100% inappropriate!
My God, I am dying of secondhand embarrassment. The thought of wearing a thong bikini in front of colleagues! 😱

Poppyfun1 · 09/07/2025 14:29

I put not being unreasonable until I saw the thong bikini. Sorry, no, your arse was out then so his point is valid. I wouldn’t be so exposed in front of work colleagues. I always feel that the whole thong bikini is a bit of a ‘ look at me’ type of swimwear.

TheWisePlumDuck · 09/07/2025 12:30

Oops.

Pressed YANBU before I read the follow up that it was one of those grim thong bikinis.

You can change your vote, just click on YABU.

Holdonforsummer · 09/07/2025 14:30

I’d be quite shocked if someone turned up to a work event in a thong bikini - and I am not ancient! It seems deliberately provocative

mummybear35 · 09/07/2025 14:30

Normal swimsuit or normal bikini bottoms, no problem..,I think thong bikini bottoms is a little tasteless amongst colleagues. Fine for family holidays or even girlie holidays etc but I’d frown on it a little when it’s a work-related event..lots of bikini bottoms cover both cheeks, really no need to floss for the boss 😆
