Anyone else? I tuned in last night and couldn't believe how bad it was! 1975 was headlining and it was so middle or the road.

Maybe I'm getting old but the music was awful!!! So bland. Im early 40s 🤣

What are your thoughts?

Yes caught a bit of self esteem last night singing 'fuck fuck fuck fuck' on a loop <yes im an ole giffer>. Very talented songwriter..

It's lucky that singers in the punk era never swore, isn't it? 😉

Id love to see the below all on the line up this year:
prodigy
charlie xcx
wolf alice
deftones
neil young
alanis morrisette
blossoms
lola young
raye
biffy clyro (seen before but they are so good)
yann tiersen

Figgygal · 28/06/2025 15:01

Lewis capaldi was a remarkable return - how he managed to control the fear his tics would take control last time I'll never know.
The Peter capaldi reveal with Franz ferdinand was hilarious
I'll look up Alanis morrisette but otherwise meh

It has always been highly political. Don’t people feel embarrassed using the term woke as an insult?

The crowd is too big for me nowadays and it’s a bit TikToker friendly now but I have a tiny bit of FOMO. I am watching Brian Wilson from 2005 though as haven’t found anything else I like (watched a bit of Alanis and En Vogue last night).

Totally agree with you.
Using woke as an insult says all I need to know about a person tbh.

All oldsters though. The youngsters I've seen, like CMAT and Self Esteem, have been great.

I had only vaguely heard of CMAT but never listened to any of her music. I was absolutely captivated by her. What a rising star. Her singing was phenomenal and her stage presence was brilliant - she seemed so authentic but totally connected with the audience and her music. I definitely want to see more of her and hear more of her music.

crumpet · 28/06/2025 15:03

I did enjoy seeing Peter Capaldi owning the stage with Franz Ferdinand

Bridport · 28/06/2025 15:03

In recent years I lived near Glastonbury and I can't tell you how sickening the number of helicopters are in an era where we're all trying to cut emissions.

The Somerset sky is like the Vietnam Helicopter Evacuation during Glastonbury weekend.

Cursula · 28/06/2025 15:03

I think if you’re not actually there, all you get is what the BBC show you. That’s highly curated/edited and not a fair representation.
I enjoyed Biffy Clyro, Loyle Carner so far.

tsmainsqueeze · 28/06/2025 15:04

The thought of using those toilets ....

Crinkle77 · 28/06/2025 15:04

I agree. A lot of music today is bland. Completely forgettable and I doubt will still be played on the radio in 30/40 years time.

Without even checking closely, I can tell you that nearly all of them are!

Some were on yesterday.

👏
Especially given that asleep is the alternative.

Oh god, every celebrity who flew in should have that shoved back in their face when they try to lecture us about sustainability and climate change!

Bridport · 28/06/2025 15:07

85 helicopters a day last year.
Even bloody Holly Willoughby arrived by chopper this year as though she's dropping in to play a storming set on the Pyramid stage.

Was Alanis definitely singing live? A couple of times I thought she might be miming. I hope not.

I am convinced she was miming on some tracks at least. In one instance she was singing an “oh” word, but he mouth was in a wide grin - impossible.

Oldraver · 28/06/2025 15:10

The 1975 did not deserve to be headliner, (was he drunk ), Biffy Clyro so much better though we had trouble with I-Player going off at random times and trying to see the whole set was difficult

viques · 28/06/2025 15:10

MauriceTheMussel · 28/06/2025 14:53

I remember being a little kid, car windows down on the way home from school and seeing all the hippies that had hitch-hiked in from god knows where to get to the Festival. It felt like something then.

Now all these celebrities helicopter in and people go en masse to the beautiful region and kind of treat it like a Disneyland. I can’t find the words, nor pinpoint my feeling, but.. it’s just not the vibe of Avalon. It’s a real place. Not a vacuum for people to go to for a few days and then shit on the countryside the rest of the time from their cosmopolitan pedestal.

I saw a clip of people picking up rubbish from the very first day, and it was horrendous. Piles of hippy crack bottles, balloons ( hello! It’s a farm,
balloons can kill animals) it was very shameful to think of the mindset behind such selfish and thoughtless behaviour. All very well wearing beads, having glitter on your face and singing along, but pick up your crap and put it in a bin or skip or whatever they have.

No, Matty wasn't drunk. It's worse than that. He was pretending to be drunk.

Such edginess! 🙄

TwigletsAndRadishes · 28/06/2025 15:12

I just don't think that live festivals come across well on the TV or radio AT ALL. Either be there, or don't bother.

Have you ever seen the pictures of all the tents left at festivals? By the younger generation who criticise older people for the state the world is in?

Bridport · 28/06/2025 15:13

Jo Whiley's leather shorts and a Cure Tshirt was a fantastic look.

whynotwhatknot · 28/06/2025 15:14

very poor lineup apart from alanis and a couple of others- the headliners arfe not good at all compared to previous years first time i wont be watching any hl

id be disppointed if were there

MintTwirl · 28/06/2025 15:16

I really enjoyed Alanis, she would have been a great headliner.

I found The 1975 a bit cringe, all the acting drunk and stumbling around like a wannabe rock star while performing quite bland middle of the road music, just felt a bit embarrassing for a man in his mid 30’s. They would have been ok in an earlier slot but not really a headliner act for me, I don’t like Coldplays music but they were brilliant as headliners last year and put on a great show which is what you want from that slot,

I imagine it’s great to be there though, there is so much for everyone.

As an aside my dad is 76 and likes Self Esteem, he thought she was great on Jools Holland last week too.

Ursulla · 28/06/2025 15:16

I'm looking forward to Charlie xcx who I think is amazing, and apparently also very good at getting a crowd going.

FormerlySpeckledyHen · 28/06/2025 15:17

My son was on earlier on one of the Main Stages that are being shown on the iPlayer, but they didn’t start broadcasting until after their band 😠
