Hot weather.

Anyone else just want this hot weather to fuck right off? I've had enough of it already and apparently we're in for at least another 2 weeks of it. 🤬 I'm made out to be a killjoy when I say I'm not enjoying it. Does everyone else really love it,or are they just saying it for fear of being thought odd (like me!).

They aren’t cancelling refuse collection though. Which is what you said. Met says 31 in Braintree. Which is hot, I agree. But the point is you represented what was happening re refuse falsely. Plus it’s a couple of days per year it gets this hot.

Funny when i google met office for braintree it says 34C And its hotter than that in the Sanctuary sauna

Theoretical maximum. Look at the actual.
And look at the rest of the week. It’s an anomaly.

Yes, there is. Often the headline temp is never reached. But since any temp below about 15 makes me miserable…

We desperately need rain.
We normally get 87mm in June, but have had less than 25mm this year.

I believe its been quite a dry spring too.

My plants are looking a bit sad, but then last year they died because of too much rain.

which means i seriously doubt you would like me banging on about theoretical minimums on an 8c day.

why can’t you accept that sone of us are miserable in cool to cold weather and as such have many more miserable days than you?

Im not the one who brought up theoretical maximum word salad YOU are

Not this winter person The only outerwear i wore last winter was a thin denim jacket. No winter coat or hat or scarf. I would find being wrapped in a blanket suffocating. I just dont feel the cold but i also dont take the piss out of ppl who do.

@cardibach so whats this then Me acknowledging that some people hate the cold from YESTERDAY Its YOU who cant reciprocate

No word salad.
Do you accept temps are under 15 more often than they are over 30?

That isn’t what that does. It says you don’t feel the cold and don’t take the piss out of people who do. I’d dispute the latter point (‘word salad’) but there’s nothing in there saying you appreciate you have fewer days on which you are miserable. Your temp perception seems unusual.

You objected to the fact that may return the favour later this year by mentioning theoretical minimum on an 8c day Why is it ok for you to do it but not me You are the one who brought it up

My perception of 34C is unusual? Really.

Of course i do. In fact im glad. Makes it harder to argue against air con

cardibach · 01/07/2025 19:08

@JenniferBooth you seem unnecessarily angry about this. It won’t help you cool down. I’m going to stop responding to you now.

Maybe MN should have a bit where we can have our regions of the UK in parentheses next to our usernames so there is context, especially with these types of posts where location matters.

I do like the summer and aspects of the heat like wearing light clothes, getting sun-kissed (even tho I’m redhead I do tan a little), I wfh so can work under canopy in garden BUT I can’t stand being in direct sun for too long, as I can burn and it makes me feel headachey etc so I have to be able to get to shade, sweating so much my glasses are constantly slipping off my face while working, lack of energy & poor quality sleep and I probably get less exercise as if it’s too hot I f Int like running in it and will drive the afternoon school run rather than walk.
Also I feel I don’t particularly benefit from lighter eves as between 7&8 I’m essentially winding my 6 yo down and getting her to bed then I just want to chill in front of tv or whatever for an hour before I go to bed, so curtains are drawn regardless! That being said she has gone to sleep earlier tonight so I’m actually sat outside now and it’s lush.
Overall I think I prefer the early / late summer 20 degrees type time, & I do like autumn.

frozendaisy · 01/07/2025 20:46

What’s the big issue?

There are many options for portable aircon units now, much more than previously, if this heat, and it’s going to happen more not less, overtime, yes we will get washout summers but the clear trend now is the summers to heat up, so you can cool a house, as you warm one in winter. Isn’t that problem solved?

Or find a completely wooded area, trees are super, they cool the planet. Or a temperature controlled gallery/museum.

If you have a garden, get panting trees now to grow, good for wildlife, good for us.

I don’t have that level of control of my work place. Schools are often poorly ventilated (many of our rooms are) and newer ones tend to be heat traps. Even where I am where 30+ isn’t unusual it is not the norm to have a/c in classrooms. Put 32 teenagers in the room (some of whom refuse to take their blazers off for a variety of reasons) and it gets very uncomfortable very quickly. Winter in school is fine (travelling to and from school in the winter can be a different matter of course).
