Hot weather.

Anyone else just want this hot weather to fuck right off? I've had enough of it already and apparently we're in for at least another 2 weeks of it. 🤬 I'm made out to be a killjoy when I say I'm not enjoying it. Does everyone else really love it,or are they just saying it for fear of being thought odd (like me!).

I just want it gone. It really messes me up and how anyone can enjoy it is a mystery

Loads of things to enjoy about it! Light mornings, light evenings, being able to sit outside in linen dresses, not having to get trussed up with scarves, socks, gloves etc, all the flowers in bloom, not having to put the heating on and use as much electricity, beer gardens, Bbqs, sitting in garden. Loads of things are great about hot weather and the summer

Well, it soon will be. And you’ll get your grey, wet, cold, miserable preference for 9 months. How anyone can enjoy it is a mystery.

I would be happy if it stayed like this year round.

Wolmando · 30/06/2025 07:58

I don't mind the heat but I am a bit alarmed that my Pompholyx (hand eczema) seems to be emerging a bit, I have had it before when it's been hot

Depends on where you are in the UK.

Maybe where you are it is 9 months out of the year, but definitely not that where I am.

Where I am that is an over exaggeration. It’s more grey in winter and but most of the year, it is definitely not. Some mornings start out as grey but the sun will come out by late morning or the afternoon.

I would not like it being this temperature all year long. The grass is dried out, it is swathes of yellow grass in my area down to seeing the dirt underneath, not enough rain, being outside and inside is sweaty, everyone smells, people are more grumpy (plenty of studies about the effects of high temperatures on behaviour).

21 degrees I wouldn’t mind, but 30 absolutely not.

My mum has creams for hers because her eczema flares up on her hands and arms with the sun and heat. She could be in the car and if the sun is shining on her arm, hers breaks out. It wasn’t like that before but became worse as she aged. She’s in her early 60s.

Mine gets better in summer. Sunshine and warmth definitely heal it up. Actually it has disappeared more or less completely as I’ve got older, but when I had it regularly summer was a time it healed.

Depends at what temp it tips into uncomfortable for you rather than where you live.

You're lucky. We get 9 months of grey weather where we live.

I'm in my 60s and mine had practically gone over the years, I got it really bad in my 30s and 40s and had a bad attack on my feet one hot spell. It's just a slight bit bubbling up on the inside of my fingers at the moment, I'm hoping it subsides and I don't have a full breakout. Mine used to often break out if I went on holiday somewhere hot which was annoying and I did wonder if it was suncream but I wear suncream a lot nowadays and it doesn't cause it

@phoenixrosehere

“everyone smells”??

why? Is showering and deodorant unheard of in your area?

Mymanyellow · 30/06/2025 11:51

It’s because it appears from nowhere. It rained and was cold from about October to mid May now I’m sweating my head off.

RJmama · 30/06/2025 12:04

I was fortunate enough to spend some time in past summers in the Alps. To me it’s the perfect climate: warm during the day (can easily be 25+ on sunny days), but it cools dramatically at night, often dropping to single figures, so blankets etc. are still needed for sleeping.

I like the sunshine and warmth but it’s the hot nights that kill me. If it cooled here like the above at night, it would be ideal.

@Mymanyellow

it doesn’t appear out of nowhere. It’s June. It’s summer. It will be significantly warmer in June than it is in October. It’s the same every year, it’s the seasons so I really can’t work out how you could be taken by surprise!

Because we seem to have a lost a lot of our mild climate, so the tempurature doesn't really ramp up/down in Spring and Autumn anymore, it just drops or hits highs without much warning.

I have a friend who is a gardener in the UK and he said we can expect this kind of climate going forward- months of cold and torrential rain with a few weeks of absolutely roasting heat. The days of mild climate in the UK (generally speaking) are gone.

Do most people have showers at work in your area?

Ever been on public transport where everyone is hot and sweaty and on their way home?

It’s ‘mild’ most of the year. This is clap trap. Our climate has always been like this. The odd heatwave summer like 1976 and the rest a complete wash out!

Thank goodness we are having a proper summer, so the nation will be ready to move into the autumn feeling full of vitamin D, bbq food and goodwill, thanks to lovely sunny days that make most hearts sing. The stuff of happy memories.

@phoenixrosehere

if you’ve showered that morning and applied antiperspirant afterwards then I don’t see why you’d smell? Most people don’t shower twice, three times a day in hot weather

GasPanic · 30/06/2025 13:12

I don't think the weather has got that much hotter. Even if it has its only a couple of degrees or so. Hardly anything in the grand scheme of things and it only happens a few days per year.

Peoples ability to moan and the outlets for their moaning have increased significantly though since 76.

I’ll ask people next time on public transport what they did then. 🙄

Smell also comes from more than just your armpits.

xSideshowAuntSallyXx · 30/06/2025 13:16

I remember the summer I started secondary school there was a heatwave and a drought. I remember the clear blue skies of the 90s and frequent droughts that came with it.

It's summer, summer is hot. This is nothing new or out of the ordinary. We're almost in July, peak summer. In less than 60 days we'll be in cold gloomy weather again, with possibly an Indian summer if we're lucky.

I remember about 10 years ago, them having to turn the heating back on at work in June as we were all so bloody cold.

I love all those things - but they are also true when the temperature is in the low 20s.

As I’ve got older I find I can’t cope with extreme temperatures at either end of the scale. I hate the dark, miserable winters but struggle when it gets over around 24 degrees. Perfect for me is somewhere between 16 and 22 - a sunny day in the (normal) English spring time or Spanish winter.

Love the light evenings but not keen when it gets light before 6 in the morning.

Very interested in the experience of @RJmamaand summers in the alps, I think I would like that. Warm in the day but cool at night. It’s easier generally at these temperatures on holidays abroad I think as we generally have a pool and aircon. I never go to southern Europe in the main summer though and have just revised my travel window back to October to May as recent experience has been June and September being a bit hot for me. We are thinking of getting some aircon in the bedrooms at home for next year which would help hugely. Sods Law it will probably be miserable and rainy if we do!
