Hot weather.

Anyone else just want this hot weather to fuck right off? I've had enough of it already and apparently we're in for at least another 2 weeks of it. 🤬 I'm made out to be a killjoy when I say I'm not enjoying it. Does everyone else really love it,or are they just saying it for fear of being thought odd (like me!).

It’s because it appears from nowhere. It rained and was cold from about October to mid May now I’m sweating my head off.

It didn't 'appear from nowhere in Mid May.' This sunny, dry spell has been around since the second half of February. (We have had a few short spells of rain, but they have been scarce.) The first week of May was the hottest start to May ever, and March, April, and May, was the warmest, driest Spring on record.

As has been said, whilst anything over 30-31 degrees C is a bit much - (especially with 70-80% or more humidity,) the lovely sunny dry weather is largely glorious. Contrary to what a poster said further back, I have experienced people being much happier, smilier, more pleasant, and more friendly, because they are loving the amazing summer so much. It really lifts people spirits.

What pisses me off is people who start grizzling and whining when the temperate hit 21-22 C, with all the 'it's tooooooooooo HOT!' posts all over the thread. That's not even that hot! They are the same ones who post 'it's toooooooo COLD! I'm freeeeeeeeezing!' as soon as the temperature goes below 15 degrees C in the Autumn, and start the tedious 'have you got your heating on yet?' threads!

the80sweregreat · 30/06/2025 13:33

I don’t feel that other people realize how much it affects my mood when it’s so hot. Same as people who can’t bear it too cold.
Even my hot weather friends moan a bit over a certain temperature!

I love all those things - but they are also true when the temperature is in the low 20s.

As I’ve got older I find I can’t cope with extreme temperatures at either end of the scale. I hate the dark, miserable winters but struggle when it gets over around 24 degrees. Perfect for me is somewhere between 16 and 22 - a sunny day in the (normal) English spring time or Spanish winter.

Love the light evenings but not keen when it gets light before 6 in the morning.

Very interested in the experience of @RJmamaand summers in the alps, I think I would like that. Warm in the day but cool at night. It’s easier generally at these temperatures on holidays abroad I think as we generally have a pool and aircon. I never go to southern Europe in the main summer though and have just revised my travel window back to October to May as recent experience has been June and September being a bit hot for me. We are thinking of getting some aircon in the bedrooms at home for next year which would help hugely. Sods Law it will probably be miserable and rainy if we do!

I love travelling to Europe in October. Weather is usually lovely, not as busy and the prices are really good.

It’s ‘mild’ most of the year. This is clap trap. Our climate has always been like this. The odd heatwave summer like 1976 and the rest a complete wash out!

Thank goodness we are having a proper summer, so the nation will be ready to move into the autumn feeling full of vitamin D, bbq food and goodwill, thanks to lovely sunny days that make most hearts sing. The stuff of happy memories.

There's plenty of evidence and reports on it- https://weather.metoffice.gov.uk/climate-change/effects-of-climate-change#:~:text=Will%20the%20UK%27s%20climate%20change%3F

However if you want to continue to base fact on anecdotal memory, then I can certainly recall milder climates in my lifetime- spring and autumn would be sunny but cool, which appears to be less and less frequent nowadays.

I’ll ask people next time on public transport what they did then. 🙄

Smell also comes from more than just your armpits.

Edited

@phoenixrosehere

still think your statement “everyone smells” is inaccurate

RabbitsRock · 30/06/2025 14:00

The weekend here in Cornwall was a real struggle for me as it was extremely hot but not in a pleasant way - very humid & dull. Today I feel much better as the sunshine is back. It’s very warm but feels fresher. As I posted on another thread, I definitely coped better in the heat pre - menopause. Once my arm is fully healed, I will be cooling off in the sea

Many people smell during hot weather especially on public transport. Is that better?

You know many doesn’t mean most right?

DirtyBird · 30/06/2025 15:27

I can't stand the heat. I sweat easily so I dread the summer. I also feel very ill and have a lack of energy when it gets hot. Autumn, Winter and the early parts of Spring are my favorite times of the year.

LoveHearts69 · 30/06/2025 19:29

I love it and I’m not finding it as hot as expected today? I feel like parenting (toddlers) is easier in the sun. I look and feel healthier with a bit of a tan and I love wearing summer clothes! I think I was destined to live elsewhere 😂

greengreyblue · 30/06/2025 20:02

Today in school was awful. Felt faint.

Goingawayistricky · 30/06/2025 20:57

Despite hitting 30 for 3 whole days it's been cloudy in the morning and bright last thing or vice versa. Theres quite a difference in weather over the whole UK. It's really just nice, with a tiny bit of too hot.

In the UK most regular buildings don't have air con. There are usually shady cooler rooms and boiling stifling ones This is infinitely preferable to places where freezing air con is the norm. Lovely for about 5 mins and then annoyingly cold.

Goingawayistricky · 30/06/2025 22:30

Also I get fed up with the hypocrisy of winter people. Their threads are all about cosy wood burners, electric blankets and blankets ie heat! No idea why being stupidly warm in winter us ok but not in June.

Yes it’s a warm night but I notice a lot of people are able to sleep on sun loungers or the beach in 30 degrees.

Enjoy the novelty. Fresh temperatures back by the end of the week.

LOL, good point about the 'winter people' being fine with being toasty hot in December, but not in June. 😆 Daft.

I hate those 'cosy winter' threads. Snuggles, blankets, hot chocolate, 'crisp' walks, cuddles on the sofa, warm jammies, big snuggly dressing gowns, cozy sweaters, baking cookies, cosy cosy cosy!

Bleugh! Give me SUMMER any day! 😎

JenniferBooth · 30/06/2025 22:58

Not this winter person The only outerwear i wore last winter was a thin denim jacket. No winter coat or hat or scarf. I would find being wrapped in a blanket suffocating. I just dont feel the cold but i also dont take the piss out of ppl who do.

lovemycbf · 30/06/2025 23:16

Have spent 8 hours on a motorcycle trip today with a jacket, helmet, gloves and motorcycle trousers and it’s been 30 degrees and felt like a furnace.
i honestly didn’t think I could ever sweat as much as I did 🥵🥵🥵🥵

Forgive my reply here @lovemycbf but isn't that... a choice?

I mean, unless youre

  • a blood bank courier
  • Charley Boorman or Ewan McGregor
  • An Uber Eats courier who really cares about safety

Then surely it is a choice?

Your not a killjoy at all.

I hate anything above 22C.

I dont like beach holidays either in places like Greece etc had to tolerate it three times because of soon to be exh.

I could never go somewhere like Australia it would kill me.

I have been to Cleveland Ohio in May 15 years ago it was fine it didnt get above 21C.

24 is in no way blistering.

It is to me.

Australia is not hot everywhere all of the time. Miserable, cold, wet, and even snowy weather is available if you pick your time and/or place.

Of course it’s a choice but still flaming hot 🥵 I despise hot weather
