Hot weather.

Anyone else just want this hot weather to fuck right off? I've had enough of it already and apparently we're in for at least another 2 weeks of it. 🤬 I'm made out to be a killjoy when I say I'm not enjoying it. Does everyone else really love it,or are they just saying it for fear of being thought odd (like me!).

Anyone else really tired due to waking up far too earlier than needed 😴
Cos of 🔥 weather??
Can't remember the last time I had a normal amount of sleep.
I sleep late so no need to wake up early.

Edited

I’m tired today as it was too hot for me to be comfortable for sleep until about 1 am, even with a fan as bedroom faces west. I then sleep with the blinds right up so any breeze can come in - and of course then wake at 4 am with the light. A lot cooler today though so hoping for better sleep tonight .

takes my flat up to three days to cool down after a heatwave so i will have to wait a while yet.

What’s the Sanctuary sauna?

Sanctuary is the name of a Housing Association.

Theoretical maximum. Look at the actual.
And look at the rest of the week. It’s an anomaly.

A bit unfair that you have chopped off the early part of the day to compare the theoretical max vs actual. You aren’t showing the hours of the day when it would be hottest in the afternoon.

I don’t have that level of control of my work place. Schools are often poorly ventilated (many of our rooms are) and newer ones tend to be heat traps. Even where I am where 30+ isn’t unusual it is not the norm to have a/c in classrooms. Put 32 teenagers in the room (some of whom refuse to take their blazers off for a variety of reasons) and it gets very uncomfortable very quickly. Winter in school is fine (travelling to and from school in the winter can be a different matter of course).

Oh at school/hospitals, one off investment needs to make working conditions for staff (and pupils/patients) into aircon and solar panels.

IF there was joined up thinking there could be investment and job creation at the same time. But there won’t be.

I didn’t chop it off. You can’t see it once that hour has passed. I was really showing the rest of the week and how it won’t be as hot. Plus it’s often actually hottest in the early evening despite the sun being stronger early on.
Anything to say about the poster’s misrepresentation of the refuse collection situation?

No, because I’ve not been on google trying to prove other posters wrong. I accept what she says about being really uncomfortable in a top floor flat where the windows don’t open, particularly living in the south east. Just as I accept that you struggle with the cold more than most people. I’m not sure that people need to be repeating the same thing several times on one thread though.

Thatsnotmynamee · 02/07/2025 19:44

@cardibach wow, you seem...tenacious. We've come to Scotland for a bit and it's been about 13° and pouring today - absolutely glorious after the disgustingly hot SE we left behind, no complaints 😅

I do get why people don’t like the heat. But for most of the U.K. summer my house is the temp I’d like to be able to afford to have it in the winter (low 20s) but I can’t and so I’m cold and miserable everywhere plus spending loads on heating instead of warm and comfortable for nothing! I’m not a sun worshipper - if I’m out in the heat I much prefer the shade - but I find it easier to be comfortable when it’s hot than when it’s cold.

I understand yes, so we are actually experiencing the same types of feelings but at the opposite end of the spectrum. You find it easier to cope when it’s warmer weather and I and others on here find it easier to cope when it’s cooler weather.

You’re pleased by the hot weather because your house is the temperature you wish it was in the winter. As some of us cope a lot better when it’s cooler, our tolerance for those indoor winter temperatures is probably a lot higher and yours is probably higher at this time of year.

All makes sense to me and I totally respect and accept that this is how you feel, and I wish there was a way you could cope better when it’s cold. And if you wanted to moan and rant about it I’d listen and empathise and if you did that online I might not comment in support but I definitely wouldn’t challenge or berate you or make sarcastic comments.

So why do you and others on here find it hard to have the same empathy for those of us who struggle in the hotter temperatures? Why is it so hard to accept that we find it unbearable?

If you look you’ll see I’ve frequently said I empathise.

You have yes so I apologise, there was just maybe an undercurrent of something else I picked up on from some of your posts, but maybe I misread them.
And it’s absolutely not just you, I looked back and it was also @BatchCookBabe who was being really sarcastic and goady. Like I said, I’d never deliberately try to torment someone who was really struggling in the cold, what kind of nasty person would do that?!

Thanks for that. Sadly lots of people tell us we should just ‘snuggle up’ when we say how miserable we are. It’s very annoying. The only point I’ve really tried to make here is that everyone (pretty much) finds some kind of weather unpleasant, but winter is long and summer short in this country. Some appreciation of that sometimes would be nice.

I get what you’re saying and I agree that telling someone to “snuggle up” is incredibly irritating and not helpful in any way. And you’re absolutely right that we all find a certain type of weather difficult.

And maybe it’s just my perception but it feels like Summer or warm days seem to be long these past few years where I am, it seems like the hot weather is getting more extreme. Maybe I’m wrong though.
But am glad we found some common ground and both agree that all of us have certain weather we don’t like.

lovemycbf · 03/07/2025 15:33

cardibach · 01/07/2025 12:16

So why choose to do something that’s going to make you even hotter?
Behave and dress appropriately for the weather. I get you can’t change work (I was a teacher - inadequately ventilated classrooms full of teenagers are hot) but in your own time? People seem to want to behave exactly the same regardless of the weather. It’s all a bit ‘mad dogs and Englishmen’.

Behave and dress appropriately 🙄🤣 I was on a motorcycle holiday in 31 degree heat what should I have done then? Not wear my protective clothing or lost all my money by cancelling
I booked it months ago 🤷‍♀️ I’m allowed a grumble because I was literally dripping with sweat in that extreme heat as you would be with a thick coat on too 🤣

It is definitely regional @CastelDweller

The vast majority of posters complaining about the recent heatwave live in London or the south east, and commute in stuffy buses, trains or the underground to offices without aircon.

We have enjoyed some hot weather where I live (on the edge of the Pennines), but I don't think it has been anything like as hot as in London. I also drive to the office in a car with aircon, and often end up wearing a cardigan because our aircon in the office is too fierce. This wasn't meant to sound smug BTW, and often when it is cool and cloudy here (which it usually is) I am envious of the posters living south of me complaining about the heat.

Dreading the coming days, I think i need to move up north 🥵

I'm in Yorkshire and it's going to be 30 degrees 🔥

Although at least up here there's a breeze, and lots of shady trees to sit under. When I was in London the air was just so stagnant.

RareMaker · 08/07/2025 18:19

And a hosepipe ban from Friday.

I'm surprised it wasn't announced earlier. I live in reservoir country and they are looking more and more like large puddles.

I understand what you mean yes it’s a regional thing maybe. Oh no! That does sound on the chilly side the way you describe it! Hopefully you’ll get some of the heat that’s headed our way soon.

“Stagnant” is a really good way to describe the hot weather and how it makes some of us feel.
