Hot weather.

Anyone else just want this hot weather to fuck right off? I've had enough of it already and apparently we're in for at least another 2 weeks of it. 🤬 I'm made out to be a killjoy when I say I'm not enjoying it. Does everyone else really love it,or are they just saying it for fear of being thought odd (like me!).

I love it been sitting out in the evenings until it cools down around 10 makes a nice change from being stuck in the house

Goingawayistricky · 17/06/2025 18:20

LOVE IT!

Even if I get too hot at work it's still a million times nicer than being too cold.
I love the light and the sunshine as well. Happy Days.

Somethingsnapped · 17/06/2025 18:22

Can you find something/s you like about the summer, and try to focus on that? I really struggled with the heat when I first moved down from the north to the south; I absolutely dreaded the summers. But I found things I liked (drying washing outside, summer flowers and hedgerows, summer clothes, kids playing in the garden, beach holidays), and bit by bit I started to tolerate it all, and now finally, I actually quite like it.

I agree with a pp that it's the humidity that can be horrible in Britain. Today is not humid though... It's a pleasant dry heat with a nice breeze. When it does get very hot, I take a good fan everywhere with me, and a wet scarf! This helps massively. I sleep with the windows wide open and the curtains open too, so I can feel the night air.

frozendaisy · 17/06/2025 18:22

Life is too short to moan, so we take the weather as to what comes.

Going to create a shaded reading area in the garden.

Happy to sit in and watch the rain
Happy to make soup and bread when it's cold
Like it when the trees lose their leaves and you can see lots of sky but it's also nice to see the blossom promising signs of new life in Spring.

We all get about 70/80 of each season each in the UK in our lives, best not to wish too many of them away.

Time to channel the inner European I am attempting to find our backgammon board so that we can sit out play traditional board games.

If you don't like it, and this was your last summer, what would you do? Do that.

BethDuttonYeHaw · 17/06/2025 18:23

Send it to Scotland please. We’d like some hot weather.

I second the wet scarf. Much nicer when you have to walk somewhere in the heat.

Two things:

  • The UK's obesity rate is amongst the highest in Europe.
  • In areas close to Heathrow, climate change has seen noticeably higher temperatures recorded in the last decade

I'll leave it up to you all to decide if these two are correlated, so to speak.

Ihateboris · 17/06/2025 18:26

I fucking LOVE this weather...the hotter the better. I'm praying it lasts until September 😀😀

Mademetoxic · 17/06/2025 18:27

Every year people moan about this. Just finding something positive about summer instead. Longer nights. Can dry washing outside.

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 17/06/2025 18:28

Hate it. My head has throbbed all day. I’m thinking about getting the aircon unit out tonight.

ninjahamster · 17/06/2025 18:28

I hate it. I’m too fat for it, I spend all day as a hot sweaty mess. My hair is wet with sweat when I wake in the morning.
Roll on winter!

I heard some commentators asking if "summer countries" had much slimmer people because they knew they would need to wear summer and light clothes for months, so they are more self conscious

while people from wet and grey countries like England have bigger people because they know they can hide most of the year.

That would be an interesting study!

Rosesonroses · 17/06/2025 18:30

I’m 38 weeks pregnant and hating it! I like the hotter weather but up to about 24/25 is hot enough for me in this country, anything more is too sweaty and stuffy

GinnyandGeorgia · 17/06/2025 18:31

Hot or cold, it's manageable

It's such a relief to escape the GREY, drizzle, wet damp and constant rain, That is what make people miserable, sick, houses full of mould and it's a nightmare.
Weather related depression is a thing!

GinnyandGeorgia · 17/06/2025 18:32

If you are struggling on what is still a mild day, you might want to plan for actual hot days, we are nowhere near summer weather yet - at least South London, where it's sunny but it's not hot.

Fleurdalys · 17/06/2025 18:33

tillyandmilly · 17/06/2025 18:12

I dislike it as feel tired and sleepy - long for the freshness to return - 18 degrees is lovely and perfect for me - ! I hope its not like this up in Derby in July as it will ruin my holiday as won’t have any energy to do any sightseeing!

Sightseeing in Derby? 🤣

That’s a great post. 70 or 80 summers. I’ve already had 60.

TutTutTutSigh · 17/06/2025 18:34

Move up north OP I haven't taken my coat off yet!!

PopThatBench · 17/06/2025 18:35

I’m 36 weeks pregnant. I want the hot weather and my fat ankles to fuck all the way off.
It’s making me miserable.

mylurcheristhebest · 17/06/2025 18:36

Hate it, it’s too hot to do anything. I always think it’s much easier to warm up in winter than it is to cool down.

EveryOtherNameTaken · 17/06/2025 18:36

Love it. Will be the longest day this weekend and the night start drawing in. Making the most of open windows all day and wearing just a long t shirt at home.

RareMaker · 17/06/2025 18:37

I find it totally over saturated and I hate the clam!

That said we are already at the longest day, the nights will come rolling in soon enough.

TutTutTutSigh · 17/06/2025 18:38

I need to seriously consider moving south if you're all enjoying (or not) long hot summers every year 😭

Hoping to get the garden furniture covers off for the first time this year on Thursday 🙏

Mademetoxic · 17/06/2025 18:27

Totally agree

I like the sound of ice chinking in a drink. It can be anything from a fizzy water to a perfect G&T
I like when H finishes work we can sit outside and chat, do the crossword, it's still light. We spend a lot of time indoors in the UK it's nice to not do it and by evening it's warm not hot.
I like seeing the build up photos of Glastonbury online, still not sure if we should go as it's a young person's game but it remind me of my 18-30 years when Glastonbury was stress free, full of un and dancing and it good to see other youngers enjoying the same
I have a soft spot for sweet peas, surprise entry in my life and like the randomness of a butterfly (or flutterby as they should be called)
People watching is so much better in the hotter weather, people are happier (on the whole), slower, stop to chat.
Cooking is easy, it's chopping basically, with a fancy salad dressing.

And you can please a lot of people with a sliced chilled watermelon, god they taste good on a summer's day, and they are so pretty, that vibrant pinky red with black seeds, one good looking statement fruit :-)

I mean we live in a rather temperature country, we all have safe cold water piped into our homes, we can shower when we like, we can grow lush gardens and have shops and houses that can accommodate frozen produce. We are so lucky just having that. But for some they still moan, it's very odd.

TheChosenTwo · 17/06/2025 18:40

I love the hot weather but today it’s been around 25 degrees where I am which is pleasant and nice but far from what I would describe as hot!! It’s certainly not weather to be breaking a sweat in unless you’re a manual labourer or pregnant or have any other condition that affects temperature! I went for a walk at lunch and ate in the sunshine, it was so nice to not have to take a coat with a hood like I did last week.
I’m still sleeping under my electric blanket at night 😂
I wore a sweatshirt today in the office as it’s bloody freezing, ended up moving to the ground floor as it was warmer down there because I could at least have doors open.
