Hot weather.

Anyone else just want this hot weather to fuck right off? I've had enough of it already and apparently we're in for at least another 2 weeks of it. 🤬 I'm made out to be a killjoy when I say I'm not enjoying it. Does everyone else really love it,or are they just saying it for fear of being thought odd (like me!).

Anyone else really tired due to waking up far too earlier than needed 😴
Cos of 🔥 weather??
Can't remember the last time I had a normal amount of sleep.
I sleep late so no need to wake up early.

Errrm I'm pretty sure none of them are heating their houses to 30 degrees

But they are heating them and then ‘snuggling’ under blankets. With hot water bottles. And hot chocolate. It’s not heat they don’t like.

It is to me.

It’s objectively not though. You may be uncomfortable in it, but it’s not ‘blistering’. It’s a perfectly normal summer temperature.

Of course it’s a choice but still flaming hot 🥵 I despise hot weather

So why choose to do something that’s going to make you even hotter?
Behave and dress appropriately for the weather. I get you can’t change work (I was a teacher - inadequately ventilated classrooms full of teenagers are hot) but in your own time? People seem to want to behave exactly the same regardless of the weather. It’s all a bit ‘mad dogs and Englishmen’.

Ihateslugs · 01/07/2025 12:36

Well, it’s quite cool here today and cloudy, rain is forecast for later which will save me watering my pots!

It was hot yesterday but I slept well with my new fan. I bought the Shark FlexBreeze this week courtesy of my daughter who got a fantastic staff discount in the summer sale, about 75% off! It’s rather large and heavy but is very efficient with lots of settings to suit everyone. It can also be used without being plugged in once charged up so last night I detached the top part which converts it into a table top fan and used it in my bedroom. It is almost silent at a low setting, all that’s needed when close to it, so I could sleep with it on - until I got too cold! My son got one as well and said it cools the whole bedroom when on its stand.

I got the one with the mist attachment as it worked out cheaper so I’m looking forward to playing with it outside - not that it’s warm enough today! I view it as an investment for future years to get me through the menopause!

I'm in north east Scotland where it's a lovely 21 c today.

I come out all prickly heat in anything hotter so my climate is perfect for me.

Just tired of being sweaty whether I’m outside or inside and definitely when trying to sleep. The tot is also not happy and waking up several times a night and she’s sweating even with a fan on and being in only her nappy and fighting naps in the day. The oldest is sen also struggling with sleep because of the heat and we all have fans going. I’m being woken up every 90 minutes about for the past few days.

I was sweating just standing getting ready in the bathroom this morning again. Take a shower only to be sweating before I even make it out the door.

It was forecasted to rain tomorrow but now it is moved to Saturday but at least it won’t be as hot, hopefully and the house will cool down.

RampantIvy · 01/07/2025 12:52

It's very cloudy 21 degrees here today. I feel quite cold after yesterday's heat.

I’d happily take that over 29c.

I can’t speak for other heat strugglers, but I definitely don’t do this, I prefer to just be an ambient temperature and can’t stand extremes either way. If I do get a bit cold and have a blanket or hot water bottle it seems a bit easier to control than when it gets so hot that there’s physically nothing left to do.

Ive spent plenty of evenings shivering at bus stops waiting to get home and thinking how awful the cold weather is, so can definitely relate to those who hate Winter. The difference is I can then put the heating on to a more bearable temperature, whereas when it’s very hot weather there’s nothing I can do within the home. It feels claustrophobic and out of control. Does that make sense?

I do get why people don’t like the heat. But for most of the U.K. summer my house is the temp I’d like to be able to afford to have it in the winter (low 20s) but I can’t and so I’m cold and miserable everywhere plus spending loads on heating instead of warm and comfortable for nothing! I’m not a sun worshipper - if I’m out in the heat I much prefer the shade - but I find it easier to be comfortable when it’s hot than when it’s cold.

Wonder if car accidents have increased. The advice is not to drive when tired.

Well, it soon will be. And you’ll get your grey, wet, cold, miserable preference for 9 months. How anyone can enjoy it is a mystery.

Exactly. It's 18 and cloudy here in Yorkshire
What bloody hot weather? 🙄

I don’t think most people are having disturbed sleep to that extent. Or at all really. I wake a bit earlier in summer due to the light, but it doesn’t seem to make me more tired - I think we are designed to need less sleep at this time of year. It’s not as tiring as being eternally cold and trying to warm up.

MoonlightMemories · 01/07/2025 16:40

Today has been fun for me...coping with the heating itself not too bad (it's a bit overcast here so no super blistering sunlight, which helps a little), but despite drinking loads (I literally can't stop peeing 😂) I'm having lots of pain issues with my kidney stones today....not super agonising but lingering in the background as if threatening to get worse at any moment...that's rather draining in itself too. Been feeling quite restless all day because of it.

xSideshowAuntSallyXx · 01/07/2025 16:48

Looking at the 10 day forecast it looks like this weather is here to stay, with the odd day of possible rain.

I'm off next week so I hope it stays like this!

Colchester council has cancelled refuse collections due to the heat Be careful what you wish for

That’s nuts. It’s 30 today but low 20s the rest of the week. Round here they just start earlier.

cardibach · 01/07/2025 17:35

Ah, @JenniferBooth you’re being a but economical with the truth there, aren’t you. For today, collections of dry recycling won’t happen. Non-recyclable garden, food and business waste are not affected. Source; BBC

greengreyblue · 01/07/2025 17:59

Absolute hell in classroom today . All dripping with sweat. Only so many lessons you can do under a tree!

narcASD · 01/07/2025 18:01

33 here today in east Herts and it’s disgustingly hot, roll on tomorrow when it drops by 10 degrees, can’t wait, I feel physically sick with it.
My kids are fed up with it too as it’s too hot to go cycling or to the park after school, and too hot to sleep

RampantIvy · 01/07/2025 18:10

We desperately need rain.
We normally get 87mm in June, but have had less than 25mm this year.

They aren’t cancelling refuse collection though. Which is what you said. Met says 31 in Braintree. Which is hot, I agree. But the point is you represented what was happening re refuse falsely. Plus it’s a couple of days per year it gets this hot.
