Hot weather.

Anyone else just want this hot weather to fuck right off? I've had enough of it already and apparently we're in for at least another 2 weeks of it. 🤬 I'm made out to be a killjoy when I say I'm not enjoying it. Does everyone else really love it,or are they just saying it for fear of being thought odd (like me!).

I struggle terribly in the heat. I get headaches and feel sluggish despite keeping hydrated. My youngest refuses to sleep due to being too hot and bright and climbs all over me in her boiling hot room despite having a fan on. Bring on autumn 🍂 🌻 🎃

Bingo! The first "I hate summer thread"

No I don't. I genuinely love hot weather. Although we really need a lot of rain. I'm in Yorkshire and the county has become the second region to enter drought status following the driest spring in 132 years.

Ideally cool nights with rain and lovely warm days would be perfect.

How people can love hot sweaty weather is beyond me!

Because it hasn't been that hot where I live and therefore it isn't sweaty.

I love it too, but am concerned about how low our reservoirs are, and haven't seen much talk about it online. I've never seen our local reservoirs so low.

Projectme · 17/06/2025 20:53

bloody hate it OP. Sitting in the garden and feeling sweat prickle all over me; how is that enjoyable?! getting up to go in the house for a wee and finding my knickers are virtually wet through from sweating. utterly gross. wearing suncream that seems to form a barrier on your skin so that heat gets retained. tossing and turning in bed to try and sleep. the constant beads of sweat on the top lip and around the nose. trying to exercise/walk in 24 bastard degree heat is impossible (even doing it early mornings at 16 degrees is bad enough). Trying to dry my very thick hair with the hairdryer with sweat dripping off my face (and no i can't let it dry naturally because it's wavy and will frizz up). Even if it is only the early 20 degrees-ish at the moment, It's anxiety inducing for me so I find it really unpleasant. I can't wait for october!! If only it could stay around 19/20 degrees, it would be perfect with the lovely blue skies, long evenings, bright mornings etc...

PlioTalk · 17/06/2025 20:54

Perimeno here and HATING IT. Cannot cool down at all.

Why are you sitting out in the sun if it makes you so uncomfortable?

What are you doing to mitigate the effects of warm weather?

I do understand that people have different heat tolerances, but I don't think people do enough to make life more comfortable for themselves.

Hattieandcake · 17/06/2025 21:03

Really not that hot !!! I had a light jacket on today as quite windy still. Do you have to moan about a few weeks out of 52 🙄

The gaslighting over this issue really pisses me off We have had more heatwaves over the past decade than we have had snow

we had a couple of hot days 😂

the definition of "heatwave" is a funny one with some people.
It's so damp generally, doesn't hurt the houses to get a chance to dry out a bit properly.

There are many places I wouldn't accept to live without air con. Not once has it been that hot in England I even considered installing air con units.

I am not an under-heater however, that might help

Overtheatlantic · 17/06/2025 21:07

It’s lovely and cool in our garden right now in Oxfordshire. We have a fan on in our bedroom and the cat is racing around with the zoomies. Tomorrow afternoon I will be suffering!

Dominicus · 17/06/2025 21:08

I don’t enjoy heat over 25C but I have a fan on so it’s bearable.
I love the light and warm evenings though.
I love having proper seasons
Sunshine and heat in the summer, nice colours and crisp Autumn and cold snowy winters.

Am pretty sure cats don’t care! They’re also used to it.

Mone isn't,he moans as much as I do, loudly!

BurntBroccoli · 17/06/2025 21:21

I do like sunny days but around 21C is hot enough for me otherwise I just overheat and go bright red and sweaty.

24 degrees isn’t even that hot!! How do you think people in other counties where it’s far hotter than that cope??

RaininSummer · 17/06/2025 21:23

We haven't had much hot weather yet and I am not barely in summer mode so definitely don't want it leaving before we have some here. It feels like the air is just starting to warm up and the flowers are starting to grow.

BurntBroccoli · 17/06/2025 21:24

WhatNoRaisins · 17/06/2025 18:24

I second the wet scarf. Much nicer when you have to walk somewhere in the heat.

What type of scarf? Sounds a great idea!

BurntBroccoli · 17/06/2025 21:24

I've started doing it with a muslin but I think I'd like to get something that looks more like a scarf.

sweetpickle2 · 17/06/2025 21:26

I have hated the summer my entire adult life- sweaty, prickly, red, horrible. I lived in London in a block of flats that was like an oven, but sitting outside anywhere was so busy and stuffy I hated that too.

Last year I moved to Yorkshire and now the summer is my favourite time of the year. Loads of shady trees and a breeze, live in a lovely cool Victorian terrace with lots of air and high ceilings, can sit out in the garden or in the park for hours and love it. Have been working in the garden all week, tanning while on my laptop, it’s been wonderful.

captureitrememberit · 17/06/2025 21:28

Totally get it. One of my least favourite feelings in the world is being too hot. Hellish

Yes wont those poor ppl have a chance to air their houses out I should have thought of that before even mentioning my small hot one bedroom top floor flat with no garden and a bath instead of a shower. Still if ppl are ok with me filling a bath a few times a day to keep cool then fab. Cos i aint going to bed a hot sweaty mess to appease those in houses with naice gardens OR the eco warriors

Come up to Scotland. It's certainly not not here. I've been under my heated blanket all day!

We are moving (back) to Scotland from down South and are counting down the days to being a comfortable temperature 🤣🤣

I can tolerate up to 20° but more than that and I get a headache which nothing will clear, overheat and sweat, especially my head. I also have sun allergy so if I don’t cover up I come out in an itchy stinging rash on my arms and legs, plus I’m pale and blonde anyway.

I agree.

This is warm. We stopped in a small town by the coast to get some food (in a cafe with no aircon) about an hour later and it had dropped to 45. People were going about their daily business. Mowing lawns etc.

Hot weather.

Anything will do really, anything that you can get wet. Cotton would be good. You can actually get special ones that advertise themselves as for that purpose, but I don't think it really matters. Anything that you can get wet. It'll keep you cool as it evaporates.

Many have AC and don’t have homes that trap heat inside.

Can you find something/s you like about the summer, and try to focus on that? I really struggled with the heat when I first moved down from the north to the south; I absolutely dreaded the summers. But I found things I liked (drying washing outside, summer flowers and hedgerows, summer clothes, kids playing in the garden, beach holidays), and bit by bit I started to tolerate it all, and now finally, I actually quite like it.

I agree with a pp that it's the humidity that can be horrible in Britain. Today is not humid though... It's a pleasant dry heat with a nice breeze. When it does get very hot, I take a good fan everywhere with me, and a wet scarf! This helps massively. I sleep with the windows wide open and the curtains open too, so I can feel the night air.

Me too with the curtains.
Except some inconsiderate twat in the village has taken to having a bonfire one night a week. So I've just woken up with my eyes streaming and needing my asthma inhaler!

Other than that I absolutely love the hot weather.
I dress well for it and our very old house stays cool inside all day so when I come home I have a nice sanctuary in the bedroom.
