Iran - full evacuation of Tehran?

Fitasafiddle1 · 17/06/2025 04:18

Genuinely finding it hard to sleep now having seen the news that Tehran - a population of 10 million are being urgently advised to leave. Is anyone else feeling very concerned (and nervous) watching what is now taking place in the ME? It is being reported that Israel have ‘full ariel control’ of Iran?

A curse upon Jews is definitely an anti-semitic proclamation, IMO.

Israel is the only country in the ME which is a real democracy, and the only country where people are allowed to be gay or atheist without fear. Try that in most of the Islamic states in the ME. You might cope in Jordan or Egypt and probably get by living living quietly in the UAE. Elsewhere?

Yes, but that fundamental point is insignificant to most on this forum, when they talk about human rights.

Well, it might be ok to be gay but definitely not to be a Palestinian eh...

The Palestinians, and entire section of the country's population, can't vote for the government that rules them.
On what planet is that a true democracy?

Do Palestinians who are Israeli citizens not have the right to vote?

Are you seriously going to pretend to misunderstood that.
Sigh. Predictable.

No, I am saying that it's a bit pathetic to use an example of acceptance of people being gay to prove the tolerance and democracy oba country, in which a huge chunk of the population face horrific discrimination and cant vote in elections that choose the government who role them.

Exactly the same amount of intolerance and discrimination, just directed at a different group.

I've mentioned it six times previously on this thread, actually. Pay more attention.

I'm glad you think it is antisemitic, because it forms part of the Houthi slogan.

Another part of the Houthi slogan is 'Death to Israel'.

Do you think that when paired together, Death to Israel and A Curse upon Jews suggests an at least partly antisemitic motivation when attacking Israel, on the part of the Houthis?

CleverButScatty · 20/06/2025 21:40

Clever use of the phrase citizens.
They live in a country, with no way of leaving to go anywhere else, and are not able to participate in elections is undemocratic.
Creating a system where only some of the country's population have a classification that allows them to vote is undemocratic.

Yet its religion that's driving Hamas. Funny that.

Clever in what way?

I'm not sure what you're getting at. In most countries you have to be a citizen in order to vote. AFIAK Palestinian citizens of Israel are allowed to vote in Israeli elections.

Yes, of course...because the Palestinians have no legitime complaints about their treatment in Israel. It's just because they hate Jews. (That was sarcasm in case it needs pointing out).

The issues will be endlessly intertwined but primarily if a country is oppressed a resistance movement will emerge. That is a guarantee.
Will people who are racially motivated to hate Jews latch onto that. Very possibly.
Will people who are anti Islamic be more likely to accept the mistreatment of the Palestinians? Also very likely. Could anti Islamic feeling be one of the reasons why Israel feels it acceptable to treat the Palestinians as they do. Also very likely.
And round and round we go.

(This is a great example of why I have turned my back on organised religion).

You really need an editor.

However, the point has been made, some attacks on Israel are motivated by antisemitism, and it's not all manufactured.

You know full well that the Israeli government has created a system in which they are excluded.
If we only classed men, or white people in the UK as citizens, and then stated that all citizens can vote, this would still not be democratic. And you know this.

I deffo need an editor on here, I always spot mistakes after I've posted. It's the joy of it being an informal website rather than, for example, my job.
Yeah that really isn't what I said. You don't help yourself cause at all by constantly twisting people's words.

DryDay · 20/06/2025 22:10

I really hope this awful, misogynistic regime will fall.
Also hope it will be replaced with something less brutal and with a more modern outlook.

You questioned my morals and conscience earlier. If I am setting my moral compass to align with Israel's fight for existence, I am happy with that. I don't care for the rabid, inherent hate that Islamic extremism holds for Jews. Its very existence is for domination, and not just of the land in question. It seeks to eradicate Judaism and Christianity. No, I square my choice and solidarity very easily and will continue to do so, with my posts on the matter.

No I dont. I don't actually know the intricacies of the Israeli electoral system, except that citizens over the age of eighteen are eligible to vote. Since you seem to be an expert on the subject (as well as what I do and do not know apparently) why don't you enlighten me?

You don’t think ‘the Houthis are motivated by antisemitism when they attack Israel’ has any merit?

CleverButScatty · 20/06/2025 22:20

I am sitting here contemplating how I am on Mumsnet. A site for mums. Of children. Whilst mums on here turn themselves inside out to justify the bombing and brutalisation of families, children, babies. Because they are somehow different, or less deserving, or the wrong race or religion, or inconveniently lie in the way of that they want.

Absolutely fucking depressing.
