Iran - full evacuation of Tehran?

Fitasafiddle1 · 17/06/2025 04:18

Genuinely finding it hard to sleep now having seen the news that Tehran - a population of 10 million are being urgently advised to leave. Is anyone else feeling very concerned (and nervous) watching what is now taking place in the ME? It is being reported that Israel have ‘full ariel control’ of Iran?

Which warmongers?

Im not aware of any of us saying we wanted either Hamas to attack Israel that started a war or Israel attacking Iran that started a war.

I totally agree with clever but scatty but can't express things so well Can't believe how sickening it is to hear God bless in the midst of all that's happening Why should the west feel so proud and believe God cares more about the West The people in Gaza should have their own land surely and not be occupied

I agree that God shouldn't be bought into it.

But individuals on both sides do bring God/Allah into it.

Though please don't suggest "the west" all think the same way. Many people in the West do not believe that all all. Many are atheist like myself and think religion causes a lot of problems in the world. We definitely don't think God cares more about the West because we don't even believe he exists let alone that he chooses a side to support in wars.

UltraHorse · 22/06/2025 08:47

Yes I accept what you have just said better to not believe but the arrogance of God bless America but not the world is sickening Are the believers praying for Iranians and the suffering people in Gaza

I agree the arrogance of God Bless America was sickening.

Typical narcissism from Trump implying that God (if he exists) has a special place in his heart (if he has one) for America.

This is a good day for the world - for too long was have tolerated the pariah state which is Iran and its sponsorship of so much that is evil in the world.

I can't stand comments like this. You think people would rather be shredded to pieces by israeli bombs?

Ofcourse they don’t, but imagine just for one second what life must be like as a woman living in Iran? They can face up to 15 years in prison - or even the death sentence if they defy morality laws.

Exactly,

Tentatively I agree with Xenia, but there is a massive leap implicit in between, and so so much that could go awry.

This is…interesting. The Persians generally hate the ayatollahs and their position has become increasingly precarious, but equally US intervention is unlikely to be welcome considering it was US intervention that installed the Pahlavis. It goes without saying that they don’t want to be bombed, but given that it is happening does present an opportunity to oust the current regime. What will matter here is how any rebuilding is handled. The next government needs to be supported by the people, not inflicted upon them.

If the regime collapses, there’s a good chance that Israel and Iran can build a strong relationship. It’s the ayatollahs that hate Israel and the Jews, not the Persians as a whole. There’s a much longer history of shared values and friendship between the two peoples than there is a history of discord, and many want to reestablish that. Israel knows this too, and as such they will handle Iran very differently to Gaza imo.

This. It’s an entire minefield that needs to be handled very, very carefully.

Papyrophile · 11/12/2025 20:02

Am I imagining that I read (about a week ago) that Tehran is under threat of a mass evacuation because of water shortages for the population?

The ayatollahs are not providing decent governance, and while I agree that I'd love to see the whole regime crumble, the recent history of the region doesn't inspire optimism.

Yes and it's also horrifically polluted.

Potable water is a serious issue. I have an Iranian remelt alloy customer who was asking whether I thought he could make Monel alloys in one of his vacuum casting furnaces. The application would be for desalination equipment. I gave him a few pointers.
He’s a Kurd and pretty much hates the ayatollahs but he’s pretty unoptomistic about the future

Muffinmam · 13/12/2025 16:34

Hang on… when I woke up this morning I read Iran was running out of water and the evacuation was because of that….

So much has changed. Hopefully there will be regime change. There are so many Iranians in my country and not one of them support the regime.
