Iran - full evacuation of Tehran?

Fitasafiddle1 · 17/06/2025 04:18

Genuinely finding it hard to sleep now having seen the news that Tehran - a population of 10 million are being urgently advised to leave. Is anyone else feeling very concerned (and nervous) watching what is now taking place in the ME? It is being reported that Israel have ‘full ariel control’ of Iran?

Iran has been top of my bucket list to visit since forever. If it had a government that didn't randomly seize tourists as spies, I would go tomorrow. Fairly sure that most Iranians would welcome tourist income and the opportunity for contact with the outside world.

Your antisemitic post was removed by MNHQ.

For a long time it has been acceptable to slander those who challenge the actions of Israel, or the motivation of those who support them, by calling them antisemitic.

People are still nervous about this, I'm not surprised the comment was deleted but I'm also not bullied into not standing up for what is right. Mumsnet's moderators are not the world's ethical oracle. They are going a pretty tough job with topics like this and I respect that. I don't think a Mumsnet post being deleted settled a worldwide ethical dilemma.

You would not answer my question about who 'we' and 'them' are (your words) and when pushed on it, you have shut down the discussion with an accusation of Antisemitism.

I wanted to know who you believed 'we' and 'them' are (these are your words).

You are clearly aligning yourself (we) with a political stance, not a religious one. I don't care what religion or race you are. I believe your views are ethically very, very wrong and I struggle to fathom how anything other than personal interest or endless conditioning within your family and social circle could explain this.

If you would engage you could explain, but instead you chose to shut the discussion down with an accusation if antisemitism. The world is tiring of this.

I still have the post in which you suggested I had assets in Israel and would send my children in to grab land because you presumed I was Jewish. Thats the polite version. Now, you can skirt round it all you want, MN agreed it was a personal racist attack. Wind your neck in and do better.

noblegiraffe · 20/06/2025 20:15

What I'm finding interesting is the insistence that 'accusations of antisemitism' are never accurate. They're always just 'shutting down criticism of Israel'.

So earlier a PP claimed that no one ever posted denial of the October 7th attacks on MN (they definitely have - there have also been many other instances of blatant antisemitism posted on MN such as holocaust denial and blaming Jews for 9/11).

And a different PP tried to suggest that the Houthis perhaps didn't hate all Jews when they said 'a curse upon Jews' (maybe trying to suggest that they only hate 'Zionists' which is the new acceptable way to trot out the same old antisemitic tropes).

This absolute blindness to real antisemitism by claiming it is all manufactured outrage is what leads to things like Gary Lineker reposting antisemitic tropes on twitter.

Take more care, and pay more attention.

CleverButScatty · 20/06/2025 20:21

Why won't you engage with the discussion?
What are your motivations for supporting Israel?

I was being facetious because you would not engage in actual discussion about your reasoning or motivation.

I don't ask you that because of your religion. I ask you that because you frequently post on Mumsnet in support of the actions of the Israeli government in Gaza and more recently Iran.

If you post strong political opinions on a public forum people with challenge you, or ask you to explain your reasoning etc. that's ok. You do the same with others, including me and that is also fine.

You have still not, at any point answered any of the questions I have raised.

You have repeatedly deflected the question asked about who you referred to in your post as 'we' and 'them'...'ODFO' 'Look up the post yourself' 'report the post'

Can you see why it appears that you are not an impartial commentator?

This is the whole point. People do not need to 'take care' when expressing outrage at what is internationally considered genocide in case someone throws a slanderous accusation of antisemitism.

Real examples of anti semitism and any racism should not happen, but for too long there has been a conflation with opposing Israel and it's supporters and antisemitism.

It's is right and proper that people question accusations robustly and are not scared to stand up against injustice because they are scared of being labelled antisemitic.

'take care 'almost sounds like a threat, because for a long time people who stood up for those being mistreated by Israel were shut down, being a labelled a racist/antisemite can have rightfully have a big impact on someone's life/career etc. That is why it is so appalling that people throw the term around every time someone challenges their political/ideological allegiance to Israel.

People have had to be pretty brave to stand up for their beliefs with this threat hanging over them.

That is not to be confused with antisemitism aimed at people because of their religion and it is important that such an awful accusation isn't constantly used to shut down legitimate debate.

You are correct, I am, like you, partial.

CleverButScatty · 20/06/2025 20:32

Dangermoo · 20/06/2025 20:28

You are correct, I am, like you, partial.

Except I'm not partial. I share no religion, ethnicity, or background with Israel's enemies. I am judging without any of that clouding my view. My only interest is my own moral compass, judging the actions of one set of humans against another.
Because that is what all of this political, religious talk etc misses. There are real people, people like you, me and both of our children being blown up in their homes with nowhere to go (in Gaza and now Iran)

Edit: and in fact this is now happening to Israelis in their homes because of the aggression. There are no winners with this kind of political behaviour...the more aggression/abuse violence that is perpetrated it is going to affect Israeli innocents... Children who are not responsible for their parents actions or decisions. People who aren't supporting their government's actions.

No good comes from violence, abuse, death and suffering. There is just no justification for it.especuslly to those who cannot escape or defend themselves.

That is what is important. People. Not power, prestige, control or history.

That is what I share with the people being attacked. I'm human. I'm a mother. As are you and I find it so hard to get my head around your morals on this matter.

Don't be daft. 'Take more care' means 'take more care', trying to pretend it's a threat makes you look ridiculous. Take more care as in, engage your brain. Don't assume that no one and nothing is antisemitic to the point where you try to defend Iran or the Houthis or blatant antisemitism or do a Gary Lineker.

There are plenty of people who are antisemitic and who hate Israel because it's a Jewish state. Don't pretend that all criticism of Israel is antisemitism-free, because it's not.

Dangermoo · 20/06/2025 20:39

Of course you're partial; you are vehemently defending Palestine to the detriment of Israel. There are so many assumptions about me in your posts, that are incorrect. I don't owe you anything - no expansion on my views, nothing but civility.

You know exactly what power that threat holds and don't pretend you don't. How many people have lost their careers etc to that label for opposing Israel's actions or the ideology of Zionism.

Agree @Thegreyhound

Here’s the story on Wiki.

Israel investigated themselves and decided it was a mistake. Well there’s a surprise!
This is Despite witnesses saying it was a targeted attack on children on the beach

If you want reputable sources, I'm afraid Wiki is absolutely not one.

Israel is the only country in the ME which is a real democracy, and the only country where people are allowed to be gay or atheist without fear. Try that in most of the Islamic states in the ME. You might cope in Jordan or Egypt and probably get by living living quietly in the UAE. Elsewhere?
