New neighbour sunbathing in the nude

ZooHannah · 13/06/2025 22:26

We moved in to our dream home last month, we have a corner plot with only one direct neighbour who is a (I believe) single man and has always been polite and friendly in our initial conversations.

DH looked out of our bedroom window today to see our neighbour sunbathing completely starkers. He came downstairs to tell me and I couldn’t believe it when I went upstairs and saw for myself.

I want to go round to say something however DH has told me I am being ridiculous and he is on his own property so can go what he wants.

AIBU? I appreciate neighbourly relations but I am absolutely repulsed by this.

I think it’s disgusting he’s sitting naked in view of children tbh! I agree OP, he needs to put it away 🤢

You're obviously not THAT repulsed if you couldn't take your own husband's word for it and had to go look for yourself. Did you think your husband was lying or something?

tommyhoundmum · 13/06/2025 22:57

If you lived here you'd see a slow, naked bicycle ride every summer. Both sexes

RedIsNotMyFavouriteColour · 13/06/2025 22:57

Yeah if there were children living next door there's no way I'd be doing this in my garden. Sometimes you just have to think of other people despite whatever "right" you have. It's totally inappropriate.

Soal · 13/06/2025 23:00

You don't get to be repulsed. Doesn't sound like he's "in view of children" as in, outside your living room window. Just steer them clear. They don't need to look into his garden.

Catladywithoutacat · 13/06/2025 23:02

I use to sunbath topless when I was 16/17 In my garden I wonder who was watching me as well

HostaCentral · 13/06/2025 23:03

It's not repulsive. It's just a naked body. If he is just lying or pottering around his garden, he is entitled to do so in any state of dress.

RosesAndHellebores · 13/06/2025 23:07

If you can only see him by peering out of an upstairs window, he's hardly making a huge show of himself.

It's the human body. There is nothing to be ashamed of. I hope you have seen your husband's Penis. I hope too that your children have seen you both naked. Because bodies are nothing to be ashamed of and inhibitions about bodies are not healthy.

He's in his garden. He's hardly walking past the local primary starkers. Presumably he wants an all over tan and to feel the sun on all of him.

I wouldn’t but I don't mind others doing so.

I have a vision now of you and your dh throwing rings from the upstairs window to see if you can get them over the exhibit to take it home as a prize. I doubt he was even standing to attention.

UniqueRedSquid · 13/06/2025 23:07

Repulsed. 😂

I assume you don’t have a human body?

dayslikethese1 · 13/06/2025 23:09

I mean he's not in the street....you have the option to just not look.

doglover4ever · 13/06/2025 23:12

Maybe just have a chat that you are concerned that your children can see his penis in their own back garden. He will probably understand.

Septembiosis · 13/06/2025 23:13

I wouldn't be happy about it, and I'd think less of him for doing that where you and your children can see him just by glancing out the window (even if it is 'only' an upstairs window), but there's not much you can do. Speaking to him about it wouldn't be worth the embarrassment, to me. I'd just avoid the window or put up curtains or blinds as mentioned by a PP. With luck, he won't be doing it often.

ThinWomansBrain · 13/06/2025 23:14

Just put your binoculars away and stop craning your neck out of the upstairs window.

JabbaTheBeachHut · 13/06/2025 22:38

Have you considered using him as a novelty sundial?

this is the best comment ever on mumsnet!!

Windymillersthatchedcottage · 13/06/2025 23:17

Stop perving on your poor neighbour

AlmostAJillSandwich · 13/06/2025 23:17

OP, you're the pervert here for rushing upstairs to look!

The ‘I went upstairs and saw for myself’ made me cackle! 🤣

We have two children, and there’s no way he wouldn’t be aware we could see him as there’s nothing blocking the view above the fence.

You can’t say anything, he can do what he wants in his garden. Put up a fence or tall shrubs to block it out.

AffableApple · 13/06/2025 23:20

He just doesn't want his penis to get darked on. Sensible really.

Theunamedcat · 13/06/2025 23:20

My neighbour walks around half naked my garden is higher than his so I grew a hedge and draw the upstairs blind if we are upstairs because tbh I don't want to see it

LBFseBrom · 13/06/2025 23:23

Does the neighbour realise he can be seen? It is possible to think you have a hidey hole in a garden which can be seen from an upstairs window.

If the man is not flaunting himself (and you'd know if he was), just leave it.

I can imagine the OP looking out of the upstairs window "Oh I say! How disgraceful! I'll be glad when I've stopped looking at him"

tillyandmilly · 13/06/2025 23:24

What's so wrong with a pair if shorts? He knows he is being looked at ! I would not be happy with this either - attention seeker!

Are you talking about a man with no top on?

There are some very strange people around - and just to remove any doubt, you're the strange one here!
