New neighbour sunbathing in the nude

ZooHannah · 13/06/2025 22:26

We moved in to our dream home last month, we have a corner plot with only one direct neighbour who is a (I believe) single man and has always been polite and friendly in our initial conversations.

DH looked out of our bedroom window today to see our neighbour sunbathing completely starkers. He came downstairs to tell me and I couldn’t believe it when I went upstairs and saw for myself.

I want to go round to say something however DH has told me I am being ridiculous and he is on his own property so can go what he wants.

AIBU? I appreciate neighbourly relations but I am absolutely repulsed by this.

This is totally bonkers. He’s in his own garden.

If you’re that offended, don’t look.

You're obviously not THAT repulsed if you couldn't take your own husband's word for it and had to go look for yourself. Did you think your husband was lying or something?

Exactly. So repulsed that you dashed up to look.
I know a couple of naturists. I believe he gardens naked. I hope he's careful with the strimmers.

My neighbour walks around half naked my garden is higher than his so I grew a hedge and draw the upstairs blind if we are upstairs because tbh I don't want to see it

OMG, you mean he actually takes his shirt off in his own garden.... jeez some neighbours hey!? 😂

Do you have kids at home?

This. If you do, it would probably bother me.

If not, just don’t climb the stairs to look.

BadWoIf · 13/06/2025 23:28

Why should OP and her family not look out of their own windows/draw the curtains, in order to avoid being exposed to this man's genitalia? He should wear undies/swimming shorts if he can be seen. A man sunbathing in the nude is quite different to a woman sunbathing topless.

If he's used to doing this, it may not have crossed his mind that he should cover up now that a family have moved next door. I think your husband should pop round and have a word, explaining that your DC can see him. Alternatively, you could make a bit of a joke of it, buy the most garish pair of speedos you can find, and put them through his letterbox with a note in verse or as a limerick, asking him to cover up. Something like this:

There once was a sunbathing man
Who was seeking an all-over tan
The kids next door saw
And let out a guffaw
Now he wears shorts when he can

I'd rather live next door to a block showing his flaccid cock in his own garden, than weirdo neighbours who'd do that 😳

We have two children, and there’s no way he wouldn’t be aware we could see him as there’s nothing blocking the view above the fence.

So? Did you invite them to look? Or are they as oblivious as you were until you went racing up the stairs to have a look?

Housemouse245 · 13/06/2025 23:38

My friend’s garden used to back onto a school, would people be happy for a man to be sunbathing naked next to a school? Even in his own private garden? I think it’s horrible and he should put a pair of pants on.

Dillydollydingdong · 13/06/2025 23:39

Did you clutch your pearls when you went upstairs to look out of your window? How ridiculous! Don't look out of that window when he's in his own private garden!

IveGotAnUnusuallyLargePelvisISwear · 13/06/2025 23:39

You’re so repulsed you went to look 😂

Tigergirl80 · 13/06/2025 23:39

Was he on his back with his legs spread sunning his bum hole? Perineum sunning," or "bumhole sunning," is a practice where individuals expose their perineum (the area between the genitals and anus) to sunlight

yakkity · 13/06/2025 23:40

Repulsed? By a flaccid penis? Why does a naked man minding his own business repulse you?

Different scenarios, different responses.

Housemouse245 · 13/06/2025 23:42

Still in view of children?!

tillyandmilly · 13/06/2025 23:24

What's so wrong with a pair if shorts? He knows he is being looked at ! I would not be happy with this either - attention seeker!

He is sunbathing in his own garden alone, not walking around Sainsbury’s. You have a strange definition of attention seeking

Maybe he walks around in a shirt and nothing on the bottom, like Donald Duck.

InterestedDad37 · 13/06/2025 23:45

Invite him round for a BBQ - ask him to bring some chipolatas 🙈

Poppyseed14 · 13/06/2025 23:46

I'm astounded by the replies you're getting here OP. I'd not want to see my neighbour's penis flopping around the garden either. YANBU

This however did make me laugh 🤣🤣

How high is the fence? If it's 6 ft then it's reasonable to assume he's sunbathing in privacy. I don't peer over the neighbours fences and I don't go staring out my bedroom window into their gardens. Common decency.

Delphiniumandlupins · 13/06/2025 23:49

How many of your upstairs windows actually overlook his sunbathing position? If you are concerned about your children seeing him, put a screen of some sort on the bottom of your windows. For yourself, don't look.

Muttley17 · 13/06/2025 23:50

There obviously isn’t a hosepipe ban yet 🤣

Every single school in mine and surrounding boroughs have screening around their playgrounds.

So I expect the school would do that.

PITCHpink · 13/06/2025 23:53

Probably gets cheap thrills knowing it’s not illegal and there is nothing anyone can do but it’s grim. Some creepy perv no doubt.

ReadingSoManyThreads · 13/06/2025 23:53

It is not illegal in the UK to sunbathe naked in your own garden—unless you intentionally expose your genitals to cause alarm, harassment, or distress under Section 66 of the Sexual Offences Act 2003

I'd leave him be unless the children might see it. And no, I'm all for children not being embarrassed or shamed of our bodies, but I'd rather they didn't see Ted's todger from next door. You could have a word with him to be more discreet if you really have issue with it, you could also talk to the police about it. But personally, I'd rather we were able to have the freedom to do things like this in our own gardens.
