New neighbour sunbathing in the nude

ZooHannah · 13/06/2025 22:26

We moved in to our dream home last month, we have a corner plot with only one direct neighbour who is a (I believe) single man and has always been polite and friendly in our initial conversations.

DH looked out of our bedroom window today to see our neighbour sunbathing completely starkers. He came downstairs to tell me and I couldn’t believe it when I went upstairs and saw for myself.

I want to go round to say something however DH has told me I am being ridiculous and he is on his own property so can go what he wants.

AIBU? I appreciate neighbourly relations but I am absolutely repulsed by this.

I'm astounded by the replies you're getting here OP. I'd not want to see my neighbour's penis flopping around the garden either. YANBU

The OP doesn't want to see it so much that she went straight upstairs to have a good look for herself!

Every single school in mine and surrounding boroughs have screening around their playgrounds.

So I expect the school would do that.

Why do they have screening up, I wonder? Have there been several instances of men sunbathing naked in their gardens that are adjacent to the playground, so screens have been installed to prevent the kids looking out? Or is it to stop people looking in?

Lol, it's to stop people looking in! 🤣

Yabu. Completely normal anywhere outside the UK. Stop looking.

Reminds me of the old joke about the elderly lady who complained to the police about the hunky young man who walked naked every day in the opposite flat with the curtains wide open.

She insisted that the officer come to her home, so he could see the horror for himself.

"But Madam, from the angle of your eyeline when standing at your window, you can only see him from the waist up."

"The wardrobe, officer! Jump up and stand on top of the wardrobe!!"

Send your kids for a nice long (summer) screech in the garden. Buy a trampoline and pop near his side of the fence. I’m sure that would be enough to put off the most ardent of sun worshippers.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 14/06/2025 00:06

Oh, so many ways to reply.... 😂😂😂

I think that's much more antisocial than sunbathing naked in an enclosed garden.

BrewANDbikki · 14/06/2025 00:08

Who cares? He isn’t tea bagging you is he?

Maybe he doesn’t know you saw him.

BrewANDbikki · 14/06/2025 00:09

🤣

Gattopardo · 14/06/2025 00:11

People are free to do whatever the fuck they like in their own garden (or should be). The line is drawn at draping their, uhh, physique over your garden fence when pruning their azaleas, because that impinges directly on you.

If you don’t want to see what your neighbours get up to in the privacy of their own garden then you erect a 6 foot fence around your own boundary and undertake not to gawp at them out of your first floor windows.

Probably gets cheap thrills knowing it’s not illegal and there is nothing anyone can do but it’s grim. Some creepy perv no doubt.

Edited

Or, he just likes to sunbathe au natural in his own garden at his own home. 🤔🙄

May be that's the issue, the op wants a closer look and is hidden behind a fence

Currently 86% of the vote is that the OP is being unreasonable and the vast majority of posts said likewise. Your theory is that all those people are not straight?

Really? So what about, ooh, having sex in his back garden? Would that be ok too? Playing loud music in the garden - also fine? How about very bright security lights that come on throughout the night whenever a cat runs across their garden? Keeping chickens, with a cockerel that crows at dawn - all ok?

I'm probably being prudish and repressed, but I really can't see why you would want to sunbathe "au natural". Just the idea of sunburn on certain areas makes me want to cover up

Isittimeformynapyet · 13/06/2025 23:24

Are you talking about a man with no top on?

There are some very strange people around - and just to remove any doubt, you're the strange one here!

Maybe it's his bottom half that is naked 🤭

The ‘I went upstairs and saw for myself’ made me cackle! 🤣

i have had a difficult week and it gave me a really good laugh. Thank, op.

Lots of people like to feel the sun on their body and not wear any clothes. It’s really not weird or in any way sexual.

Aquarius1234 · 14/06/2025 00:26

First thoughts 😲.

Lardychops · 14/06/2025 00:31

‘WILL SOMEBODY THINK OF THE CHILLLL-DRENNN!!!!’

if they need to be upstairs , standing on a chair with faces pressed sideways against your bedroom window, waiting for him to pop outside for sunbathe on the six hot days a year that allow naked sunning oneself- I’d hazard a guess they will make it through unscathed my luvver x

TheGr8Cornholio · 14/06/2025 00:33

Contrary to what some previous posters have written, just because he owns the property does not give him the right to expose his genitals to his neighbours. It is very unlikely that he does not realise his neighbours might see him nude outside.

You and your children have every right to be able to glance out of your window without having to see someone's genitals. Just because some people might not find it uncomfortable does not mean that you have to ignore your own valid discomfort.

Follow your instincts. If you haven't already done so, you would be within your rights to contact your local police and report the man for indecent exposure. I'm sure the police will be able to offer you appropriate help or advice with this matter.

Shelby2010 · 14/06/2025 00:35

There are people who are more comfortable without clothes, and are naked in a completely non-sexual way.

There are also perverts who get off on the idea that they can be naked in front of people/kids who don’t want to see them like that.

None of us know which one your neighbour is. Have a quiet word and hopefully he’ll be reasonable.

I mean the law is the law, but you carry on making it up if you think it helps 😳
