To ban wind chimes

tinyme77 · 25/05/2025 08:39

My neighbours bought pan pipey wind chimes earlier this year and on this windy day, sitting in my house with the window open I can hear that they have now bought us all (the neighbours) the more conventional wind-f'ing-chimes. It frustrates me because it is constant (unlike a noisy party). Do they think that we can't hear or that we all love the toot-te-toot?

I like my wind chimes 🎵

Whataninterestinglookingpotato · 25/05/2025 08:46

Are people on mumsnet really representative of society? Are people really as grumpy about everything their neighbours do as they seem on here?

SunnieShine · 25/05/2025 08:47

Wind chimes don't bother me.

MyKingdomForACat · 25/05/2025 08:48

Both us and next door have wind chimes. I love them. We put up with enough so let the chimes ring out

StScholastica · 25/05/2025 08:48

Well we have a rifle range in the garden so I guess I can't complain.

PermanentTemporary · 25/05/2025 08:49

I don't mind them but would happily support a ban anywhere they can be heard by other people. I have a friend who was driven almost mad by her neighbours' chimes, and I simply don't understand why people who like them would keep them up a nanosecond after understanding that not everyone feels the same. But they do, because far too many people are twats.

MyKingdomForACat · 25/05/2025 08:55

@PermanentTemporary Not as twattish as the neighbours who let random kids disturb us with a football all year round

It doesn't mean that anyone else does. If only you can hear them, great. If, like my neighbour, you hang them at the bottom of your garden so that anyone with a nearby garden is obliged to hear the random, awkwardly pitched 'notes' then not so great.
They are an abomination imo and should be hung inside your house if you're so fond of them.

My neighbours have 3 children under 10 in the garden I doubt they can hear my wind chimes. 🤷🏼‍♀️
Also they need wind to work. So not ideal inside 🤣

Chacun à son goût

ForFunGoose · 25/05/2025 09:18

I hate them too
Neighbours who leave them up after being told they are annoying are assholes

DiscoBeat · 25/05/2025 09:20

I hate wind chimes and I should think they're very antisocial to birds, too.

That's ok, I don't mind being a wind chime asshole. There's worse things to be.

You think they can’t hear them at night when the children are asleep?

They're small windchimes not massive church organs.

Ddakji · 25/05/2025 09:22

Ask them to take them down. We did. They were right below our bedroom window. They did take them down - they didn’t sleep in the back of the house so couldn’t hear them at night
but appreciated that we could!

Also if they could hear them and had issue they would tell me. They haven't

Japanesemapletree · 25/05/2025 09:22

I don't understand why anyone would want a wind chime. Annoying things!!

Communitywebbing · 25/05/2025 09:23

Better wind chimes than hot tub motors.

So what? I could hear my neighbours clearly at night. They couldn’t because they slept on the other side of the house, so their wind chimes weren’t disturbing them.
They took them down when we mentioned it.

OK. My neighbours haven't mentioned so all is good with us. 👍🏼

okydokethen · 25/05/2025 09:25

The noise of wind chimes is unbearable to me, I would never inflict that on others.

Put them in front of an open window then, they don't work outside either if there's no wind,

It's ok I'll keep them outside 😊

MolkosTeenageAngst · 25/05/2025 09:26

I totally forgot about wind chimes, we had them inside and out growing up. I’m going to order some for my garden now to add some nostalgia!
