To ban wind chimes

tinyme77 · 25/05/2025 08:39

My neighbours bought pan pipey wind chimes earlier this year and on this windy day, sitting in my house with the window open I can hear that they have now bought us all (the neighbours) the more conventional wind-f'ing-chimes. It frustrates me because it is constant (unlike a noisy party). Do they think that we can't hear or that we all love the toot-te-toot?

It’s no coincidence that the evil woman in “The Hand That Rocks The Cradle” is discovered because she loves a windchime.

Yeah my therapist did say I was going down a path of evil with wind chimes.

I hate them. Put them inside don’t bother your neighbours

Sure, when my neighbours stop bothering me.

I like my wind chimes 🎵

I thought I was alone in not understanding the MN chime hatred! I will agree to banning them if we can also ban screeching children and yapping dogs from gardens in Summer.

SALaw · 25/05/2025 09:44

@PawsAndTailsdo you only have one set of neighbours or does every single neighbour bother you?

Exactly

Only one that can hear them, and only during the day.

CreationNat1on · 25/05/2025 09:46

My neighbour has them up to, a teacher also, that explains that..... Tatty, Bossy.

Headingtowardsdivorce · 25/05/2025 09:46

My neighbour used to have them, they kept me awake at night and considerably reduced my quality of life. I told her, she left them up. Asshole.

TheFunHare · 25/05/2025 09:47

Our neighbours got some once. Problem is we lived in a terrace and they were pretty much outside our bedroom window. I don't mind the sound of windchimes but I do object to them tinkling away through the night. Thankfully they took them down when we asked.

You're not my neighbour so you don't need to worry

No, thank goodness. And thank goodness my neighbours just took their’s down altogether instead of playing silly buggers.

I'll keep playing silly buggers to the tune of my wind chimes 🎵

What utter dicks.

I don’t understand the hate for wind chimes. I don’t have any but I love hearing them, it’s only on here that I’ve ever heard anyone complain about them.

I’d vote for more wind chimes personally, perhaps make them compulsory in every garden.

SALaw · 25/05/2025 09:50

@PawsAndTailsi obviously don’t know where your neighbours’ houses are but I’d question if you know that for sure. Sound can carry differently depending on weather, wind direction, other noises etc. for example we live relatively near a small train station. Generally we don’t hear the announcements but then maybe every 2 weeks it will be a day in which the sound seems to carry and we hear it 🤷🏼‍♀️

Hearing them all night as you try to sleep is different though, right? I like a piano but I don’t want someone hitting 4 notes repeatedly all night when I’m trying to sleep?

It would have to carry a long way, so I'd be very surprised. The only neighbours that can hear them do have their bedrooms on the other side of their house, so I think they're safe at night. I'd take them down at night if it was an issue but during the day they can deal with it. Like I said, if they deal with their issue of annoyance, then we can talk about the wind chimes. I may or may not be receptive.

Do you love hearing them throughout the night when you’re trying to sleep?

merrymelody · 25/05/2025 09:55

I love wind chimes; they’re so relaxing and melodious.

I do love hearing them at night and would love to hang some outside my bedroom window. But there are neighbours with bedroom windows on that side so I'm not.

Chloe793 · 25/05/2025 09:57

Horrid jangly things flopping around in the wind. Why do people think it's ok to inflict that on others?
