To ban wind chimes

tinyme77 · 25/05/2025 08:39

My neighbours bought pan pipey wind chimes earlier this year and on this windy day, sitting in my house with the window open I can hear that they have now bought us all (the neighbours) the more conventional wind-f'ing-chimes. It frustrates me because it is constant (unlike a noisy party). Do they think that we can't hear or that we all love the toot-te-toot?

I totally forgot about wind chimes, we had them inside and out growing up. I’m going to order some for my garden now to add some nostalgia!

They remind me of my childhood too 🥰

Chipsahoy · 25/05/2025 09:27

I love mine! But we don’t neighbours near by. When we did, I asked the lovely gent next door if he minded as I know they can be annoying if you don’t like them.

OK. My neighbours haven't mentioned so all is good with us. 👍🏼

You hope. Because as we know, not everyone who is bothered by something has the courage to speak up (though that’s on them, of course).

And as sound carries its possible people don’t know which garden they’re in, which neighbour is being inconsiderate.

Trust me my neighbours aren't afraid to speak up 🤷🏼‍♀️

I don't mind my neighbours wind chimes until it's really windy! To be fair to her she's very considerate and takes them down if
She's home

ChoppyChoppy · 25/05/2025 09:30

I like to hear the birds and the leaves in the tree but can’t stand wind chimes. They are awful. It’s obnoxious if people put them up when they know there neighbours have to put up with them.

That’s good.

If you had a neighbour who objected would you take them down.

lostinthesunshine · 25/05/2025 09:32

I love windchimes. Had them when we had a rural property. Wouldn’t dream of them now we are more suburban.

Comedycook · 25/05/2025 09:32

Terrible things.

The benefits they may bring to those who choose to have them are absolutely not worth the negatives they bring to surrounding neighbours.

If they asked me, I'd move them yes. But no one has.

PawsAndTails · 25/05/2025 09:33

I love windchimes. The only reason I got them was because the only neighbours that can hear them during the day deserve it if they are annoyed.

If they knocked on my door and asked me to take them down because they're annoying, I'd tell them why I'm not. If they fix their issue, then we can talk again.

FancyCatSlave · 25/05/2025 09:33

Neighbours are meant to be both seen and heard. It’s only on mumsnet that people think they should live without being able to hear or see evidence of other people.

I have noisy hens, child, wind chimes - as do most of my neighbours. I also have cows, sheep and owls as neighbours that make a hell of a lot of noise at night. I don’t complain about them either.

I once lived 3.5 miles away from my nearest neighbour in the arse end of nowhere. Wasn’t that quiet.

TheeNotoriousPIG · 25/05/2025 09:33

Could I swap someone wind chime noise for my neighbour's barky dogs? They are excellent as security, as the barking becomes much more frantic if they see a person, another dog or a passing sheep. The rest of the time, it is at the same pitch, and goes on constantly every time they are let out (usually every hour, for half an hour at a time). So, swapsies, anyone?

Swap for my neighbours 3 children and their football booting against my fence 🤣

Move them inside?

AffableApple · 25/05/2025 09:36

Anyone who puts them up is a selfish twunt. I've lived in two houses with wind chimes next door, it's a noise that taps into your head.

And yes, I've had some awful neighbours with actual serious noise. The worst people. But there's something about the persistent, high-pitched, nearly-arranged nearly-musical noise that is rage-inducing about wind chimes.

No to the front garden away from their back garden and bedrooms.

You're a lot more fussed about my chimes than my actual neighbours are 🤣

PawsAndTails · 25/05/2025 09:38

I didn't get windchimes for years out of consideration of the neighbours. Then it turned out they had no consideration for us, so I got the windchimes I always wanted. They are tuned, so high quality sound. I love them. I'm only human so hope they annoy the neighbours. It's not windy around here that often anyway.

Does everyone on your street only have bedrooms at the back of the house?

It’s no coincidence that the evil woman in “The Hand That Rocks The Cradle” is discovered because she loves a windchime.
