Petty neighbour

So I’ve been living in my flat with my family for just over 3 years now, everyone has been lovely never had an issue with anyone, we have 1 allocated parking space for each flat and the parking is really tight, I always be careful to not hit anyone’s car door with my door but sometimes I have to lean my door on there’s to get in and out as I won’t fit otherwise and I think it’s gotten harder now as I’m 37 weeks pregnant!
so in my post box today I found a handwritten note from the neighbour who parks next to me and she’s said she’s noticed some paint marks of my car on her car and if we could call her to look into it together 😐 its just transferred paint and will come off even if you lick your finger I’m so shocked she’s actually said something like this as she knows I’m pregnant and we’re also moving out in 2 days!
Do I act like I’ve never seen the note and just leave or do I actually call her I’m literally waddling around in so much pain moving house and heavily pregnant I thought she’d be more considerate

If you've marked her car you've marked her car, I'm not sure you being pregnant plays into her consideration to be fair. If you've marked it, and it sounds like you're not denying it, then really yes you should sort it.

raisingstars · 24/05/2025 21:46

@BallerinaRadioIts just transferred paint somebody’s done it to mine it comes of if you wipe it it’s not a scratch or dent she probably hasn’t even tried to take it off herself Jesus

Jojimoji · 24/05/2025 21:47

If it's just "transferred paint that comes off with a lick of the finger" from your car, then why didn't you clean it off?

If she's gone to the trouble of writing you a note asking you to look into it, then it doesn't sound as if it's quite as menial as you think it is????

(On a separate note, Good luck with your baby and your move🤗)

KaToby · 24/05/2025 21:53

Your neighbour isn’t petty. I’d be furious if someone was leaning their car door on none regularly and enough to transfer paint!

How do you know if you haven’t looked at it?

raisingstars · 24/05/2025 21:56

@JojimojiI don’t think she’s realised it’s just paint because she probably hasn’t even tried to get it off maybe if she tried and then realised it was more than paint I’d understand I could literally wipe it off in front of her to prove it I don’t understand why she’s going so far to write a note to us about it and thank you!

@KaTobyWell how am I supposed to get out of my car if I have no space to fit through my door and heavily pregnant I have to lean my door on hers I don’t slam my door because I don’t want to damage my door too I’m not an idiot lol

OP posts:
MrBlobbyScaresMe · 24/05/2025 21:58

You're making a lot of assumptions, the morally correct thing to do would be to go over and look at the damage with her, if it's paint and you can wipe it off then job done surely?

That's not her problem, and it doesn't excuse you marking her car.

Don't be a dick.

HappiestSleeping · 24/05/2025 22:01

Paint doesn't "just transfer". Cars have layers of paint, and then layers of lacquer, so if paint has "just transferred" it was a pretty hefty rub.

I’ve had 3 babies, I know what being heavily pregnant is like. You could park somewhere else, get out and get someone else to park for you, speak to your neighbour and explain so they can potentially move their car to help you (probably too late for this option)
Plenty of pregnant woman manage to park and not hit other cars with their door.

raisingstars · 24/05/2025 22:03

@HappiestSleepingIt can because it’s happened to mine, my car is white and once I saw some red marks on my car from someone parked next to me I thought it was damaged also till I just tried to wipe it off with a wet wipe and it came off there was nothing there after end off not the end of the world 🤣

This

Koazy · 24/05/2025 22:05

It’s been bashed to transfer. You’ll need to go and see if it needs fixing

Redpeach · 24/05/2025 22:05

God people and their cars, get a life

BurningMrs · 24/05/2025 22:05

Transferring paint onto someone else’s car by leaning your door on it is unreasonable whether you’re pregnant, single, elderly or a teenager.

YABU. If you can’t park safely without knocking your door into another car then you need to park elsewhere.

raisingstars · 24/05/2025 22:06

@KaTobyI’m sorry but there is nowhere else nearby to park where I live outside the car park is a double yellow line I depend on my parking space plus who am I going to randomly find to park my car for me seriously??! And no there is no way I’m fitting through a tiny gap with my huge tummy! Trust me I don’t want to damage my car either not to sound like a snob I don’t drive a cheap car it’s the tiniest bit of paint she needs to chill we’ve always been so kind to her always helped her whenever it was needed that’s why I’m shocked she come out with a note like this

If that was a long time ago, it's possible, but cars made in the last 20 odd years have lacquered paint, not single stage.

raisingstars · 24/05/2025 22:08

@BurningMrsok yeah should’ve just asked my landlord to magic me a new parking space preferably a large one for parents so I don’t get a bit of paint on someone’s car 🫣

OP posts:
raisingstars · 24/05/2025 22:10

@HappiestSleepingNope it was only a year or two ago, anyways If I see her I will go to her car with her with a wet wipe and wipe it off for her, job done 👍 🤣

Since this seems to be your question, the consensus would appear to be "call her".
Unfortunately, pregnancy doesn't absolve you from damaging someone's property.
If you're right and the mark comes off with a wet wipe, good.
If it doesn't, you're responsible.

ReadingSoManyThreads · 24/05/2025 22:15

I'd just go out and wipe the paint off. Job done.

KaToby · 24/05/2025 22:17

I’m genuinely shocked that people can be this selfish and believe the neighbour is in the wrong!

raisingstars · 24/05/2025 22:17

@ReadingSoManyThreadsI don’t know why I haven’t actually I should, then she’ll be wondering oh where’s it gone 😂
