So I’ve been living in my flat with my family for just over 3 years now, everyone has been lovely never had an issue with anyone, we have 1 allocated parking space for each flat and the parking is really tight, I always be careful to not hit anyone’s car door with my door but sometimes I have to lean my door on there’s to get in and out as I won’t fit otherwise and I think it’s gotten harder now as I’m 37 weeks pregnant!
so in my post box today I found a handwritten note from the neighbour who parks next to me and she’s said she’s noticed some paint marks of my car on her car and if we could call her to look into it together 😐 its just transferred paint and will come off even if you lick your finger I’m so shocked she’s actually said something like this as she knows I’m pregnant and we’re also moving out in 2 days!
Do I act like I’ve never seen the note and just leave or do I actually call her I’m literally waddling around in so much pain moving house and heavily pregnant I thought she’d be more considerate

If you try to wipe the paint off and it won't go, will you agree to pay for her door to be resprayed? It's not her fault you're pregnant, is it?

raisingstars · 24/05/2025 22:21

@KaTobyHoneslty I have been through soo so much worse in these last 6 months of renovating my new house it’s nowhere near as bad as getting paint on someone’s car I’ve had lots and lots of brand new items damaged and parts of my house ruined by cowboys and dealt with so much and wasted soo much money whilst being pregnant it’s been hell! I know it’s not her problem but I’ve been through it so when I see something soo so minor like this I just think wow wish that’s all I had to worry about

@NominativeYes of course! My husband is really big on stuff like that but I know for a fact it’s just a bit of paint

Then I don't understand why you suggested that you might leave without dealing with this. Surely it's a no-brainer, you call your neighbour and sort it out?

mrskittenpie · 24/05/2025 22:28

Are you the world’s first pregnant woman? Because you’re acting like it

I keep asking this, but how do you know if you haven’t gone and spoken them?

raisingstars · 24/05/2025 22:30

@NominativeI will try to wipe it off if it doesn’t come off then I’ll obviously let her know it’s really not that deep

If you can't fit out of the car, then you need to park differently i.e. if you are driving it in frontwards then you need to reverse in as that way your door will be on the opposite side to her car.

Lovemycat2023 · 24/05/2025 22:31

I know what you mean by it wipes off - I have coloured wax for my car (it’s white, so skies other paint easily) and any paint transfer polishes out. You could offer to buy some of that for her to keep the peace?

raisingstars · 24/05/2025 22:32

@mrskittenpiewell how do you expect to fit out of your car door if someone is parked so tight to you pregnant or not but being heavily pregnant makes it much harder? You don’t sound like you’ve been pregnant before 😂 I’m sure there’s been times you’ve had to lean your door on someone else to get out so stop it please be realistic I know what Mumsnet is like anyway don’t know why I bother tbh😂

"Do I act like I’ve never seen the note and just leave or do I actually call her"

You call her, of course.

raisingstars · 24/05/2025 22:35

@OlderGlaswegianLivingInDevonHonestly if there was any other way I would but the parking is so tight everyone has to reverse into their parking space there’s no space to even turn in the car park it’s a nightmare thank god I’m leaving in 2 days and my new house will have its own driveway 🥵

“You don’t sound like you’ve been pregnant before” is really rude and insensitive when this forum is a safe space for alot of women with fertility issues. You sound like you think you’re the first pregnant woman in the world and everyone should be inconvenienced or allow their property to be damaged to accommodate. If your pregnancy is preventing you from safely getting in and out of your car without causing damage or paint transfer to others’ vehicles then you need to park elsewhere or find another solution.

Londonrach1 · 24/05/2025 22:35

Yabu. Can't believe you think anything else. I bet the neighbour is pleased you are moving away. You never ever rest a door an someone s car. It's rude and yes I've been pregnant and lived in a situation whilst pregnant where cars were parked in blocks next to each other and I never think of damaging a neighbour s car.

Well said.

@VivXCall her to say what sorry I got a bit of paint on your car? Fair enough if it doesn’t come off but I will try to take it off first It’s no biggie 3rd world problems seriously

Yes, you absolutely should apologise for causing paint transfer to her car. Obviously.

raisingstars · 24/05/2025 22:38

@Londonrach1well whoever parks next to her will be doing the same thing so good luck to her 😂 if she doesn’t like it maybe she should move because there’s no way someone is getting out of their car without having to lean their door on hers

OP posts:
Youbutterbelieve · 24/05/2025 22:39

Definitely try and get it off for her before you go. If you don't she could involve insurance companies which you don't want the stress of!

I think you mean "....1st world problems...."

BallerinaRadio · 24/05/2025 22:40

This is just bizarre

LaMarschallin · 24/05/2025 22:42

So, nothing to do with being pregnant?

olympicsrock · 24/05/2025 22:43

It is wrong to lean your car door on someone else’s car. Damaging other people’s property is wrong and not acceptable behaviour.
Simple.

ReadingSoManyThreads · 24/05/2025 22:43

If it doesn't wipe off, try a bit of T-cut. I can't believe people are seriously suggesting OP pays for a whole door to be re-sprayed due to a tiny bit of paint transfer. Jesus! By the way, I am super careful with car doors, but come on, it can be very difficult getting in and out of tight spaces with a full-term baby bump.
