Parents hate the Childfree

Over the past few days there have been several post regarding children for example Our new Neighbours and my loud children and To think it's unacceptable to say you don't like children. in both posts there are hateful comments about Childfree people. The second post in particular never mentioned anything about childfree people but then people started making comments about them. Plenty of parents hate other children despite having them. Why do parents care so much about Childfree people and their choices? Are you jealous? Need validation? Why all the hate? Most importantly will you own up to it?

YABU - I don’t hate the childfree
YANBU - yes I hate the childfree

I'm a parent and I don't care if someone else is childfree. Their choice (or sometimes not).

Azandme · 18/05/2025 08:22

If only there were a third option... 🙄

Agix · 18/05/2025 08:22

I don't think parents hate childfree people as a rule. I think the ones that do are jealous and regretting their own life choices - the existence of childfree people for them is a harsh reminder that it is about choice, that they chose to have kids, and they didn't have to. They brought it on themselves and nkw they have to live it.

People who are enjoying being parents, like genuinely enjoying it, are probably too busy enjoying it to care whether someone else is having a kid or not.

Addicted2Sugar · 18/05/2025 08:22

I couldn't give two figs

x2boys · 18/05/2025 08:22

I could say the same about child free by choice people, the number of times I have seen posters posting down right derogatory things about children on here is ridiculous paticularly on a parenting website
However I suspect most people are just trying to get on with things I don't hate anyone live and let etc.

isolate34 · 18/05/2025 08:23

Surely this can be the case the other way around aswell?? Either way, this post is goady, most parents do not hate child free people ffs.

Overthebow · 18/05/2025 08:23

I don’t hate child free people, in fact I very rarely think about it. The only time it really crosses my mind is when there’s posts on here like this from childfree people.

mynameiscalypso · 18/05/2025 08:23

I don’t at all. The vast majority of my friends are childfree. I am a bit envious of their flexibility but that’s because of the phase of life that I’m in.

ThePoshUns · 18/05/2025 08:24

Don’t be so ridiculous

squashyhat · 18/05/2025 08:24

Sweeping generalisations apart, what does it matter to a child free person if parents do hate them? Presumably apart from relatives their lives will barely cross.

Reprographical · 18/05/2025 08:25

I have children and don't hate the child free. About half my friends are childless or child free and we are in our 40s and we never snark at each other over it the way people do online. So I suppose yabu

Youstolemygoddamnhouse · 18/05/2025 08:25

Personally, I think it comes from a place of older women pretending they never wanted children but deep down they would have liked it, it just never happened for them for one reason or another and they become inbittered.

comment made on the second post. So yes the hate is real 😆

I'm a parent and I don't dislike child free people. If it's their choice I respect and (actually) admire them

Of course being child free means you don't necessarily understand the parental world. My child free friends, for example, wouldn't be my go to friends to discuss problems surrounding my children

But its not because I dislike them. Its because they don't have any or much knowledge of the subject

Childfree means it was by choice. Childless means it wasn’t. OP is talking about childfree people.

ChickenEggChicken · 18/05/2025 08:26

I was contentedly childfree until I was 40, when I had DS. I am exactly the same person since as I was before. Parents aren’t a different species to people who don’t have children for whatever reason.

Oh my goodness! I totally disagree with this. When I look back at me pre children, I am so changed (for the better imo) now

Tbrh · 18/05/2025 08:28

Why would anyone hate someone who was childfree? They're probably just jealous. I'd also argue most parents hate loud, bratty children. Weird thread OP.

Does this poster speak for every parent, OP? What about the people on this thread saying otherwise?

Hercisback1 · 18/05/2025 08:28

I see more hate in the other direction.

I feel occasional pangs of "oh I wish I could live their carefree life" to child free people (especially when my children are being difficult!). But I don't live their life and I made my own choices.

PawsAndTails · 18/05/2025 08:29

ThatNimblePeer · 18/05/2025 08:26

Childfree means it was by choice. Childless means it wasn’t. OP is talking about childfree people.

Edited

OK but I know someone who calls themselves childfree and it's not really by choice, as such. They would have liked children but chose not to have them for medical reasons. They are sometimes sad about it. In fact, all the childfree (or childless) people I know are because of circumstances rather than a definite "I just don't want children." They all have perfectly happy lives, sometimes after a time of coming to terms with it.

Dweetfidilove · 18/05/2025 08:29

This parent genuinely do not care about other people's reproductive choices.

What I cannot stand, however, are parents who do not parent their kids - have zero consideration for others and are happy raising feral, menacing humans.

UrbanMonstrosity · 18/05/2025 08:29

My best friend is child free and it’s never been an issue. I’m happy with my choice, she’s happy with hers.

That post was ridiculous but not hateful. I think you're being really goady and hyperbolic with this thread tbh, which is not a good look
