To spend £1,900 on a rug?

Theyalwaysknewbest · 04/05/2025 21:33

I love it so much.
I've been looking at it for over 1 year and I love it as much now as I did when I first saw it.
I've spent a year looking at rugs and haven't found any I particularly like.
This one, I love!
It's 3 metres x 2 metres.
Am I mad to spend this on a rug?
It would fill the floor space in our lounge.
Would sit on top of a wooden floor.
For context, I bring home £1,500 per month.
We are going camping in England for our family summer holiday.
We are not well off! At all!
But I love this rug and there is an option to pay it off monthly at zero % interest.....
I feel like it's wrong to spend this much on a rug but equally I really wish to have it!!

Can you get a part time job at Waitrose for the staff discount 😆

queenofthesuburbs · 05/05/2025 19:55

I'd also ask JL if they will give you a discount in any event...I once asked in a high street shoe shop and he gave me a 20% manager's discount without even batting an eyelid!

Seamond · 05/05/2025 19:58

Have you seen it in real life as it's very expensive, the smaller one is in a few stores.

Yep, 25% iirc at JL from when DS worked at Waitrose, I was the guest card that he could have.

BasiliskStare · 05/05/2025 20:02

@queenofthesuburbs - "There are lovely sprays you can get if you're concerned about moths, but if you're walking about on it in any event, they won't like it. They prefer to be undisturbed!!"

I am serious here - can you give me a link to these moth sprays . I'm not being sarcastic or joking - I would seriously like to know.
I'd really appreciate it

Thanksyou , Basilisk.

You've got "oooo, I want it" tunnel vision. I can see that you've made your mind up that nothing else will do. Buy the rug and continue your obsession with it but the rest of the family will come to hate the thing when you end up banging on at them about not getting it dirty.

If you are too good for polyester, as your sneering implies, maybe you need to get a more lucrative job in order to purchase homewares to match your high standards.

Shhhhh. Your bile is showing

@Theyalwaysknewbest do you have a plan for stopping moths eating it like they did to my wool rug?

Do you not have wool carpets in your house? Or knitwear? I’ve never heard of anyone avoiding wool out of fear of moths. Are you wary of wood in case of wood worm?

blueleavesgreensky · 05/05/2025 20:28

HotCrossBunplease · 05/05/2025 08:13

This has probably been said already but a wool rug will get destroyed by moths. They are impossible to get rid of. I mean, if you want to spend 2 grand on insect picnic go ahead but it is literally throwing money in the bin.

Wool carpets are very very very standard.
are you genuinely saying you don’t have wool in your house? It’s a very standard furnishing fabric. Do you avoid wood too? Wood worm after all.

Almost nobody has wool carpets these days. How out of touch are you?

Of course they do.

Marble10 · 05/05/2025 20:31

I think if you really love something, get it.
It sounds like a classic piece which will last a lifetime.

Do you know what, this actually crossed my mind earlier today!
I already work every week day though. Maybe I could get a Saturday morning shift!
Knowing my luck I'd just about get through the interview and get the references sorted, start my first shift and then - poof - it'd be out of stock 😂

Thank you.
I really love the colour though. I won't go off of it.
It's 'my' colour. I've loved these shades of blue always.

Have you seen the actual rug? It's two completely different shades of blue in the photos - the one in the room staging is much darker.

Of course it isn’t true. What a weird assertion Confused

Yes, I agree with you. That picture is darker than the main picture.
I actually love both shades, so would be happy with either.
I've seen it in real life, it's somewhere in between the 2 shades it shows online.
It also subtly changes shade depending on the change in daylight.
It is a beautiful colour.
If I ordered one and it wasn't the exact shade I've seen in store, I'd be OK with that.
Anything in those shades of blue would be just fine by me.

If you can afford it, something you love and makes you happy when you see it / think about it is absolutely worth it.

longtompot · 05/05/2025 20:55

@Theyalwaysknewbest www.azraimports.com/projects/ikts.php

hopefully that'll work for you. From what your recent said I really would go for the one from JL. It is beautiful and if it sells out again you'll regret it

TreesWelliesKnees · 05/05/2025 18:38

I think sometimes an item just speaks to you. You feel connected to it and know it will bring lasting joy. It has that 'just right' feeling, as if you were meant to find it. It's rare to get that feeling in a world of so much tat. I think you should follow it.

She’s not seen it in real life though.

It’s just a guess that’s it’s life changing.

Sunholidays · 05/05/2025 21:17

You have done your research

You have seen it in real life

You love it and know that it will fit your house perfectly

You have a sensible plan to pay for it

I say go ahead and buy it

People spend double that on meaningless holidays in the costas every year

MrsTerryPratchett · 05/05/2025 21:18

If it’s taken you a year to save up 500 quid, you cannot afford credit. Sorry 😢

Away2000 · 05/05/2025 21:20

Well if you’ve thought about it for this long then maybe. Personally I would never put myself into months of stress for repayments for something that’s not essential. Have you looked around at other rugs? You might find something cheaper that you also love. With a take home pay of £1500 that’s so many hours of your life at work for a rug.

BasiliskStare · 05/05/2025 21:32

Just to say of course people have wool carpets. Of course they do. But there are moths - I know this to my cost.

@Theyalwaysknewbest Thank you Thank you 💐

Again I wish you all well with whatever you decide ☕🍾
