Dd has one of her artworks on exhibit at the Royal Scottish Academy’s Annual Open Exhibition. I don’t think I’m BU to be so proud of her, although IRL she doesn’t think it’s worth mentioning to friends! She’s the youngest in the show.

That's amazing! You must be bursting with pride at having such a talented daughter! I love it when people boast about their DCs genuine achievements ❤️

Aparecium · 03/05/2025 09:18

I don't mean you have to answer my questions. I just mean it's more than lovely - it has life and engagement.

Mrsmouse71 · 03/05/2025 09:18

That’s an amazing piece! You should rightly be super proud!

GrumpyDullard · 03/05/2025 09:20

I was expecting to be underwhelmed by your post (we’re all proud of our 17 year olds - mine is a qualified dinghy instructor! 😁) but this is other level stuff. Amazing, OP. She’s incredibly talented but obviously she won’t have got to this level on talent alone, she’s obviously a grafter too. Great job raising such a brilliant young woman.

phinalinabeena · 03/05/2025 09:20

She is remarkable and even more so considering her age and the short amount of time she has had to dedicate herself to working on her technique. She is incredibly skilled and you are rightly proud of her.

NeverTalksToStrangers2 · 03/05/2025 09:20

Wow it's incredible. Looks like a photograph.

FriendlyLaundryMonster · 03/05/2025 09:21

Thanks all, she doesn’t mind things being online as she has a website etc and already takes commissions. She wants to study at the Florence Academy of Art but you can’t get student loans for it so she’s trying to find funding. She was always creative with a good eye but she just tried painting in oils for the first time a couple of years ago and could pretty much do it straight off! I’m proud of her determination and focus. She works hard, but loves it.

Absolutely fantastic! Hell l’m proud of her and I don’t even know her.

That painting is stunning.

And while I think it’s good not to be boastful don’t let her go too far down the modest girl narrative either.

JockTamsonsBairns · 03/05/2025 09:22

I've come across your daughter's art before and she is an absolutely incredible talent.
Actually, there aren't quite the adequate words to describe it.

You (and she) have every reason to be proud. What an exciting future for her!

dudsville · 03/05/2025 09:23

Wow! What a phenomenal 17 year old, she's amazing, and well done to you both that she's got a good head on her shoulders. She sounds focused.

MyLegoHair · 03/05/2025 09:23

I've just clicked on the link and seen her other pieces. Holy shit she's amazing 😍

CosmicCuppa · 03/05/2025 09:24

You should be incredibly proud OP. She has an incredible talent and this is a huge deal.

FriendlyLaundryMonster · 03/05/2025 09:25

I was expecting people to say ‘yeh, whatever!’

Amazing 🤩

Dawnb19 · 03/05/2025 09:27

I know nothing about Art but that is amazing. Well done to her. And at 17 as well. If she was my daughter is be so proud and tell everyone.

EachandEveryone · 03/05/2025 09:27

Incredible she is a fantastic artist. Will she go to Glasgow? Gosh she could go anywhere if she gets some kind of funding. Well done both of you x

She has looked at Glasgow, but would really like to go somewhere where old masters art skills are taught. I don’t think it’s a route which is particularly valued in the art world at the moment though. So we’ll have to figure it out.

Oh my god, that painting is beautiful! I thought it was a photo in the thumbnail.

MyCalmRoseHelper · 03/05/2025 09:33

I was confused at first. Thought it was a photograph! Only realised it was a painting when I zoomed in. Absolutely incredible. Wish I had even a bit of that talent. Definitely not unreasonable to be proud of your daughter and her amazing talent.

ErrolTheDragon · 03/05/2025 09:33

That really is astonishingly good. At first glance photorealistic but it’s more than that.
Thanks for sharing it, OP, and very best wishes for your DDs future - I hope she can get the financial support needed for her next steps.

MeltonInTheHeat · 03/05/2025 09:33

WOW!!!! That is an incredible painting!!!

She has a huge talent and clearly a great deal of determination and grit!

I would never have seen her painting in my regular life so feel really pleased to have seen it now on this thread. No wonder you are very proud!
