Dd has one of her artworks on exhibit at the Royal Scottish Academy’s Annual Open Exhibition. I don’t think I’m BU to be so proud of her, although IRL she doesn’t think it’s worth mentioning to friends! She’s the youngest in the show.

Wow!!! I thought that was a photograph... She painted it?! Amazing!

Same!

Hidden? Why?

MNHQ, are gofund pages not allowed?

Yes, absolutely, you should be proud of her. I’m a stranger and I’m proud of her. That is an amazing talent she has and I hope it brings her much success and happiness.

beetr00 · 01/06/2025 20:34

@ButteredRadishes

ah! ok, that explains. Many thanks.

Let's hope that anyone who would like to "support a young artist to study in Florence" a simple search on google will help.

Didn't mean to flout any Mumsnet policies! To update, dd has been applying for a lot of funding, including the Dewar Arts Awards, which I think were mentioned by @beetr00 Thank you! She's also booked to present to her local Rotary club (another mumsnet idea). She's been working on a commission all half term and did a long photoshoot too for one in summer, so will be saving all her earnings too. I'm really proud of her for working so hard while still at school and so grateful to all the pointers that were given earlier in this thread as well as the contributions.

Amazing talent. The Scottish lass painting in the website is stunning.

beetr00 · 01/06/2025 20:54

@FriendlyLaundryMonster

Many apologies, I really don't mean to infringe MN rules.

Having zero artistic talent, whatsoever, myself, it just seems sacrilege to me that a young person with such incredible skills has to struggle to find funding to enhance their talent. 🌼

FriendlyLaundryMonster · 01/06/2025 21:00

@beetr00 No need to apologise! You've been really helpful. 💐We are hoping for a patron, but exploring all avenues we can think of and dd is working non-stop. I feel positive!

@FriendlyLaundryMonster

love the new commission on Ruby's insta page

WeirdyBeardyMarrowBabyLady · 20/08/2025 16:49

A truly amazing portrait at any age let alone at 17. She’s so obviously talented and you’ve every right to be proud that she has been recognised for it.

MidwinterSpring · 20/08/2025 16:50

Fantastic especially at such a young age! Congratulations!

FriendlyLaundryMonster · 20/08/2025 17:13

Ah, hello everyone again. Thank you! We love this commission and it was a really interesting one from an announcer at BBC Radio 4 to commemorate 100 years of them broadcasting the Shipping Forecast. The crazy thing was that she wasn't actually old enough to visit the BBC studios. You have to be 18. So, that's something for the future!

Don't recognise him @FriendlyLaundryMonster, who is he? 🙈

FriendlyLaundryMonster · 20/08/2025 17:36

I think what's nice about the commission is that it gives a different perspective. Normally we just hear the speaker's voice. The sitter is Ron Brown.

I shall look forward to that!

Since you were all so lovely, just posting an update on dd. She is due to appear on Sky Portrait Artist of the Year tv show next month! She had a really fun time filming this during her Easter holidays and has had to keep it a secret for quite a long time. She'll be in episode 5 on 29th October.

Oh wow! She is so talented! I love the light on the cheek of Sun Girl, just stunning!

LactoseTolerant · 18/09/2025 21:33

I know this sounds really dumb but man in a scone is that a painting? Did she actually paint that? It looks like a photo.

5 mins later: I had a look at her website and wow she is good. I know how lifelike or photo like a painting is isn't the only criteria to judge it by but her paintings are absolutely incredible. They would he incredible as well if she was older by the way!

Needapadlockonmyfridge · 18/09/2025 21:38

Your daughter is very, very talented. You have every right to be very proud!
