Shein…do you use? Is it worth it?

I get quality might not be best…but i am postpartum…weight and overall look not the best at the moment and barely anything fits and if it does it shows my belly in an uncomfortable way! Cant afford a dresses which hopefully wont be needed in a few months and going to visit family in a couple of months so need something else besides bike shorts and stretchy t shirts!

has anyone used shein? Worth a try? Do they have easy returns?

I was going to just lurk, but I need to comment. It's appaling the amount of people who think thousands of options, dispose after two wears and refunds without even returning is a good thing. Shein is abhorrent. We don't need large volumes of clothes, we don't need disposable clothes, we don't need to put ourselves above others on the planet.

And also think about the chemicals in the clothing. Many of them are banned in Europe so no European store would get away by selling them whereas when you get it from China directly there is no legislation in place to protect you.

PyrannosaurusRex · 06/04/2025 11:39

Little children working in cotton mills in Lancashire and up chimneys in London = shameful stain on our history that we look back at with horror

Little children working in Chinese clothes factories = fine, because if you measure yourself carefully you can get some great bargains.

grumpypedestrian · 06/04/2025 11:44

How would you feel if it was your kids working in these conditions?

But you don’t witness it first hand so who cares right? Who cares about children and other people being literal slaves when you get your cheap holiday clothes.

Save up. Buy less. Price isn’t an excuse, I’m minimum wage and work in retail. Over consumption is dreadful, we get online returns that hasn’t even been taken out of the packaging.

KittensGardenofVerses · 06/04/2025 11:53

To all those using Shein, have you not heard of the Uyghur Muslims? Have you been living under a rock or don't you care?

PurpleHiker · 06/04/2025 11:58

I’d recommend watching ‘Buy Now: the shopping conspiracy’ on Netflix. It had how much Shein produces compared to other clothing retailers. Also showed how a lot of clothing just ends up dumped in Ghana on the beaches as they can’t cope with the sheer volume of it all. Was really depressing.

unhingedfoghorn · 06/04/2025 12:09

Uyghur Muslims plight could have us boycotting anything to do with China, to be fair.

Probably both. Wilful ignorance. All that matters is cheap tat.

When I was bigger I used shein and Ali express a lot for clothes for me and the kids. Some of the quality has been great! And I've got tops and jogging bottoms very distinctive design that over 5yrs old still going strong thanks to cold washes. Never got any electricals. But bulk buying some PJ's and nighties in different sizes is handy. They washed really well. Then donated on. The kids basics are good, shoes are hit and miss. The homeware is good. Primark and the supermarkets are getting more expensive for certain things. Peacocks quality is crap tbh. And Primark is good on certain things. Tbh when they first came out I wasn't aware of certain issues. I dont use vinted as I find it a nightmare to navigate! Plus lots of stuff I like isn't really on there. But I rarely buy clothes now. Kids stuff is mainly marketplace etc. just shaming posters won't change their minds. But the cognitive dissonance is strong as well 👌🏻

Someone on my road bought a charger from some Chinese site. Burned their house down 👍

Iloveeverycat · 06/04/2025 12:26

Shein is very good never had a problem. Returns are free and get refund quickly you don't return to China. Light in the box very bad.

Anyotherdude · 06/04/2025 12:31

I’ve had a great experience - except with shoes, so I avoid those now. I always get compliments on my style when wearing their clothes (which I look after really well) and I don’t buy too many pieces, as I have a one in, one out policy with my wardrobe.
They are also great for craft materials, cake decoration tools and accessories, organisation tools such as cable tidies, make-up caddies etc. some diy decorating stuff, toilet tablets and arts (the same set of pens that cost £3.60 in SHEIN were £13.99 on Amazon)

Clocloxx · 06/04/2025 12:32

I like shein, there models are completely photo shopped and unrealistic but the reviews from real people are very helpful! Returns are easy, huge variety of products for low price

Some of it is a no brainer really. Especially for kids stuff. 'I could pay £50 for that or I could pay £15'.

I live on my own and don't have a well paid position. I do buy a lot of second hand things as I've said but I've bought from shein.
In fairness I don't do the 'fast fashion' thing. Everything I've bought has been great and I've worn again and again for several years.

I definitely would not buy anything electrical online only from a highstreet store.

Ineedcoffee2021 · 06/04/2025 14:02

I use shein and temu
No issues with either in quality in both shoes and clothes, my most worn stuff is from them and washed on the regular

Read reviews, filter them to with pics from UK, Aus
I always use a tape measure too and either measure me or an item i have that fits perfectly

Well i didnt know for a starter. Big retail companies are not better.

Evidence?

Evidence?

Google h&m employed 14 yrs old to work 12+ hours daily. Abercombie had fair share in human trafficking.

I shop at Shein. I’m a terrible human being. Sweaters are thin but very soft and wash well. Returns are fine. Never had problems. Some of it is awful, most of it is quite nice.

schnubbins · 06/04/2025 14:55

Never have and never will buy from Shein.

So if a sweater costs roughly £10 and Shein has to pay the manufacturer who has to pay for machinery and materials, how much do you thing the worker gets paid for that?

it means that the post in question wasn't written by a human, but by a bot trying to encourage you to shop from She-ite and not the other site it mentioned.

I am definitely human. I only purchased once from light in the box wish I didn't. Couldn't even get a refund through PayPal. Wish I had read reviews about site before buying.
