Shein…do you use? Is it worth it?

I get quality might not be best…but i am postpartum…weight and overall look not the best at the moment and barely anything fits and if it does it shows my belly in an uncomfortable way! Cant afford a dresses which hopefully wont be needed in a few months and going to visit family in a couple of months so need something else besides bike shorts and stretchy t shirts!

has anyone used shein? Worth a try? Do they have easy returns?

Are people aware that the thousands of online returns go straight to landfill because it's cheaper than remerchandising?

Again, they don't care.

All that matters is getting "loads" of "cheap bits" and being able to feed their addiction to shite fast fashion.

Quite….this thread is so bloody depressing.

we don’t need all these clothes! Even 20 years ago we bought less. Buy better quality and buy wisely. Things will last longer.

SnoozingFox · 06/04/2025 08:49

Also on the returns and not specifically Shein - if you've ever noticed in a charity shop that they have rails of brand new Zara or similar, that's the same thing. I used to volunteer in Oxfam and about 2 or 3 years ago we started to get Zara return boxes, masses of them. About 90 odd boxes per store. Filled with mostly perfect garments which people had ordered and returned for whatever reason. For companies which rely on churn of items and always having something brand new on their website, by the time you return something 2 weeks after it arrived, it's already off the website. So it's binned, or in the charity box. At least Zara donate their surplus to charity, because as a high street store they are at least TRYING to minimise impact.

Unlike She-ite.

SnoozingFox · 06/04/2025 08:53

I'm appalled @Hyperfish808 and you're obviously appalled too but honestly, there is just no getting through to some people. They just DON'T CARE. Who cares about Chile, it's so far away, i'll never go there, it's their fault for not dealing with it, not my fault for ordering my "cute" summer wardrobe from Shein.

Slobberchops1 · 06/04/2025 08:55

I have returned lots of things to shein - free and always received a prompt refund

but I’ve had to return the items because it’s all trash . Badly fitting cheap polyester crap

I bought a load of Zara items from a charity shop last year, all in the same size all new, so I assume was from one of those.

I will say through, the quality was rubbish. I'll never buy from zara. Belt fell off a playsuit within a couple of wears, zip went on the trousers. Didn't wear any of it more than once or twice.

sharkanado · 06/04/2025 09:01

Never bought from there & never will.

unhingedfoghorn · 06/04/2025 09:03

Unfortunately I had nothing but bad luck with vinted. Won't shop there again, just ended up frustrated and out of pocket.

sharkanado · 06/04/2025 09:03

The thing is people just pay for it in other ways, they just don't see it.

sharkanado · 06/04/2025 09:05

I don't think they are much worse ethically than other high street shops.

People working in high street shops here will have h&s legislation and employment laws for one.

Well i didnt know for a starter. Big retail companies are not better.

“Other companies are just as bad” is not an excuse to keep buying from a company famous for exploiting people, slave labour and environmental concerns.

Im on minimum wage and have lost over 20kg. I save up and don’t use fast fashion. Being cheap isn’t an excuse.

grumpypedestrian · 06/04/2025 09:23

Hyperfish808 · 06/04/2025 07:13

Astonished people still buy from there when it’s well known about their poor practices. Do people really not care???

They don’t care. Most likely they’ll have wardrobes full of rubbish that maybe gets worn once then chucked in their landfill bin.

I’ve even seen people saying they’re doing these workers a favour by keeping them employed. Shocking.

Why do you keep buying it then?

Bumping this post because this is so important for others to know

Wasteddaysanddays · 06/04/2025 09:27

I am an old big bird so the choice plus cost on SHEIN is great ...... but...... I have to really look up close at the material as sometimes it is not what you expect. It has been known for me to to order something and gasp when it comes out the bag. Picture a large sixty year old woman in shiny mesh trousers.
But I have some lovely summer dresses, swimming costumes (don't go anywhere else now), jackets, gym wear, shoes and sandals. Trousers, jumpers have been a bit hit and miss, sometimes the material is much more lightweight than expected.

The trouble with SHEIN for me is I can't resist another apple corer, silicone mat, set of coasters, nail dip, face roller, posture corrector, don't get me started on table runners, birthday banners and Christmas decorations......the list goes on.

Urgh. The planet is drowning in your plastic tat.

Nushi21 · 06/04/2025 09:31

I’ve bought a few long night dresses and I’ve worn them non stop as they wash well and wear well.

user2848502016 · 06/04/2025 09:39

They’re ok, some stuff is pretty good, sometimes material is poor quality.
Fine for a few bits for postpartum wear.
I like that you can look at photos on reviews too so see the product on normal people.
Sizing can run a bit small seeing as they’re Chinese, I’m a 12-14 and usually take M in tops and L bottoms but in SHEIN I go for L/XL.

Oh and yes you definitely can return things and get a refund.

No. Awful company. You can't return anything and the quality is dreadful.

I disagree, quality is a mixed bag - some is awful but some is surprisingly good (and better than similar high street items). Returns are very easy though…

endofthelinefinally · 05/04/2025 21:02

Maybe I am just unlucky.

You're not unlucky, you're just lying

EmmaEmEmz · 06/04/2025 09:49

I use it. I'm plus sized and tall which makes shopping very difficult as it is, and on a tight budget to boot.

I recently lost weight and needed new clothes. Shein was brilliant. I find trousers come up too short (35 inch legs so an age old problem for me) but everything else pretty much fits me true to size.

I've also got dresses from there that are about 4 years old that I've worn constantly and they're still in perfectly wearable condition, so I don't think the quality is too bad at all.

Do you have a Peacocks anywhere near you OP? Or look at their website?
