I get quality might not be best…but i am postpartum…weight and overall look not the best at the moment and barely anything fits and if it does it shows my belly in an uncomfortable way! Cant afford a dresses which hopefully wont be needed in a few months and going to visit family in a couple of months so need something else besides bike shorts and stretchy t shirts!

has anyone used shein? Worth a try? Do they have easy returns?

Apologies everyone. I am getting old. I confused Shein with Light in the Box.
I do wonder how well these Chinese companies treat their employees though.

Oh now I agree with Light In The Box they’re horrendous!

Cel77 · 05/04/2025 21:41

The worst in fast fashion. Ethics are disgusting. Workers conditions are unbearable. Quality is very poor. Not recommended.

Deargodletitgo · 05/04/2025 22:03

Returns are fine, and easy refunds. Each item has individual measurements per size and often hundreds of reviews and pictures. I'd suggest the factories where Shein make their clothes are probably shared with lots of other high street brands.

why would you buy from a company that supports slave labour??? Serious question.

NeilDiamondsBlowDry · 05/04/2025 22:06

Shein aka Shit

Hammy19 · 05/04/2025 22:12

You can easily return items (not all but it does make it clear before you place your order if you can't return them) and the returns are free. The money is usually back way before they say as well

Singleprice.com and everything5pounds used to be pretty decent but you do have to wade through a lot of stuff to find good items. That said I've had things from Next, Gap, Marks from there. The returns aren't free though

Well i didnt know for a starter. Big retail companies are not better.

Fast fashion plastic shite made by slaves and/or children. Never a good option.

But they are. Because they have shareholders and customers who demand that they are better. Yes sometimes they’re caught out and you might unwittingly buy something made unethically. If you buy shite from shein you KNOW you are buying unethically. It’s cheap for a reason.

This thread reminded me of this SNL skit...

Shein and their ilk are awful and I wouldn't buy anything from them. But I was in your position this time last year OP so I get the temptation.

I was a month or 2 postpartum and sick of wearing the same leggings and baggy tops everyday. It's hard to find things that suit you when your body feels so different and it's not like anyone's swimming in money on mat leave to go shopping either.

I really would try Vinted again though, I've got some real bargains there.

Purplebunnie · 05/04/2025 23:54

Nope. Unethical company and I'm trying to decrease my carbon footprint by not ordering stuff made the other side of the world. Ditto Temu

I've also heard rumours of lead in some of the products

Maitri108 · 05/04/2025 23:57

I think they use cotton from slave labour. I'm sure you know about lack of labour laws and children in Chinese manufacturing so I won't push the point.

Hyperfish808 · 05/04/2025 23:59

Cheap for a reason. Poor quality and not very ethical.

RatatatCat · 06/04/2025 00:07

I’ve got quite a few things from SHEIN over the last couple of years. Can be a little hit and miss but my takeaways would be;

•spring/summer items much better that winter/autumn, sweaters are a very thin material and t-shirts often a weird fabric. Summer dresses, swimwear, gym wear, knitwear and linen style shorts/trousers are all good in my experience.
•Most things seem to come up small
•Check pictures reviewers have posted - you can usually tell what the fabric is like and how it looks when worn (the actual reviews usually just rubbish)
•returns are very easy and refund comes back quickly

mainecooncatonahottinroof · 06/04/2025 00:09

Wouldn't touch their crap with a bargepole! I prefer decent quality, even if I have to pay more for it.

isitmeamithedrama · 06/04/2025 00:18

It’s not the best quality as you’d expect for the price. You absolutely can refund items.
the sizes can be a bit off but if you check the individual measurements you can work out the size you need
I’ve bought a lot of holiday stuff and bikinis all
of which were great.
t-shirts and jumpers have all
been good and dresses have been comfortable and washed well.
I’ve only had a couple of duff items but I don’t bother returning them

MyBeloved · 06/04/2025 00:23

Ethically unsound.

They use slave labour.

Newmeagain · 06/04/2025 00:28

If something is very cheap, there is a reason. Someone always pays the price. The employees at their factories get treated terribly. And yes, they do use children and slave labour.

people in the U.K. buy more cheap, shitty clothes than in most countries. Why is that????

just buy some second hand stuff until you lose the weight.

KenAdams · 06/04/2025 00:29

Having a big tummy makes everything look shit, I hate it (endometriosis). It looks amazing online or on a plus sized model but I put it on and good lord, its a completely different item of clothing.

The only dress I wear all summer is this one - I have it in most colours - https://amzn.eu/d/aar9zGS

New Look also do some lovely wide leg cropped trousers in the summer that hide a belly too and a dress with buttons all down the front which if you size up in, you can use the drawstrings to create shape but hide your belly.

KenAdams · 06/04/2025 00:30

Forgot to say - Sheins cotton supply chain isn't transparent so make your own decisions re ethics in regards to them.

APATEKPHILLIPEWATCH · 06/04/2025 01:21

Yes because it has things in my style. High street shopping is painful, everything is tracksuits - not my thing - or overly revealing crap. Also not my thing. Tacks and racks of shit that looks the same too. I like things like dresses that look like a separate top and skirt. Honestly can’t find this kind of stuff anywhere but there’s loads of stuff on Shein. Same with Cider - gorgeous clothing.

blueshoes · 06/04/2025 01:24

NotSmallButFunSize · 05/04/2025 21:00

I mean it probably isn't the best but the "can't return anything" is just flat out lying - have returned plenty of things

Agree. I have returned a few items and had no problems getting a refund. Occasionally, Shein will even refund without my returning.

unhingedfoghorn · 06/04/2025 01:28

endofthelinefinally · 05/04/2025 20:58

No. Awful company. You can't return anything and the quality is dreadful.

I've found them the easiest ever to return to? They have the label available and sometimes they don't ask for them back even. I'm intrigued as to what your experience was.
