I get quality might not be best…but i am postpartum…weight and overall look not the best at the moment and barely anything fits and if it does it shows my belly in an uncomfortable way! Cant afford a dresses which hopefully wont be needed in a few months and going to visit family in a couple of months so need something else besides bike shorts and stretchy t shirts!

has anyone used shein? Worth a try? Do they have easy returns?

Yes because it has things in my style. High street shopping is painful, everything is tracksuits - not my thing - or overly revealing crap. Also not my thing. Tacks and racks of shit that looks the same too. I like things like dresses that look like a separate top and skirt. Honestly can’t find this kind of stuff anywhere but there’s loads of stuff on Shein. Same with Cider - gorgeous clothing.

I've no idea where you are shopping but everything is definitely not tracksuits! Or "overly revealing crap either"?!

Smallsalt · 06/04/2025 01:36

They have a knack of making things look like it's nice material, cotton etc.
When every last thing arrives it is I fact shiny sweaty polyester.
Kudos to their photographers though.

Nat6999 · 06/04/2025 01:36

I've bought Tshirts & pyjamas from Shein, all good quality & wash well.

ThinWomansBrain · 06/04/2025 01:52

I purchased some stuff from Shein years ago - the sizing was totally out, every thing at least 3 sizes too small and ridiculously teeny arms/sleeves.

Vinted/Ebay or Charity shops?
Tu, Matalan or Primark?

I have a long floaty summer dress that is several sizes too big - I've had it about 20+ years, have worn it happily when I've been a 14/16/18 & 20 - always gets compliments, always comfortable.

Trousername · 06/04/2025 02:05

It's rubbish. Avoid. Try Primark which is dead cheap, or charity shops, or ebay, or Vinted. Loads of better options.

YourOnMute · 06/04/2025 02:28

Anything I've ordered has been awful quality, looked terrible on the hanger and on me.
That was before I heard anything about the inhuman working conditions, pollution, unethical practices. But honestly nothing I bought suited me...odd shapes and poor material. And that's not even thinking about the chemicals used on the clothes and the items, leaching onto your skin, your lungs.
High street shops, including supermarkets, are much better in this regard. In fact Primark is among one of the better ones.
I second Vinted. If you have something that fits you now, you can search for that item or very similar, at knockdown prices.

HoppingPavlova · 06/04/2025 02:41

DD buys from there a fair bit. Has had some things great quality and she still uses, and they look fine, several years on. Other things quality not so great but she doesn’t really care, due to very low cost, wears a few times then tosses. Does not seem to have had an issue with returns if needed. I wouldn’t buy from there personally, due to ethics, but I’m not a uni student with little money from a casual side job so I’m not going to lecture. No doubt, later, when she gets a professional role and corresponding pay, her shopping habits will change.

ETA She does shop in op shops if she gets the opportunity but between uni/job there’s limited time and most of the time leaves not finding what looking for.

Maddy70 · 06/04/2025 07:02

Returns are easy it's very hit and miss Ive has some really nice things but generally is cheap material not cut particularly well

SJM1988 · 06/04/2025 07:08

You have to be careful and properly look at posts and reviews but i do and 90% has been great. Swimsuits, jumpers and most recently a formal dress for a bridgerton event. All good quality. Jumpers are an odd material but I actually like that. I tend to go for not the cheapest on there but not extortionate.
You can return stuff ( for free too) as i did this week.

Hyperfish808 · 06/04/2025 07:13

Astonished people still buy from there when it’s well known about their poor practices. Do people really not care???

AnxietyLevelMax · 06/04/2025 07:24

KenAdams · 06/04/2025 00:29

Having a big tummy makes everything look shit, I hate it (endometriosis). It looks amazing online or on a plus sized model but I put it on and good lord, its a completely different item of clothing.

The only dress I wear all summer is this one - I have it in most colours - https://amzn.eu/d/aar9zGS

New Look also do some lovely wide leg cropped trousers in the summer that hide a belly too and a dress with buttons all down the front which if you size up in, you can use the drawstrings to create shape but hide your belly.

Edited

Yes! This is the style i love and have several dressed similar to the one from your link, although with wide shoulders and small breasts i go for v neck and no puffy sleeves but overall really love it.

well i got a few dresses from roman yesterday (on sale) and will give vinted another go

I did get few things from vinted but non of them were good fit and couldn’t return so just dont see a point to be honest..
i use vinted for kids/baby clothes as its much easier and was usually very happy but for myself? Big no.

At least with Vinted you can buy brands you know your size in. Shein sizing is wildly inconsistent and the quality is the worst - it looks and feels beyond cheap. Returns are a hassle. It also has no resale value so you can’t sell it on through Vinted/Ebay.

AnxietyLevelMax · 06/04/2025 07:50

BrightSuns4978 · 05/04/2025 23:51

Shein and their ilk are awful and I wouldn't buy anything from them. But I was in your position this time last year OP so I get the temptation.

I was a month or 2 postpartum and sick of wearing the same leggings and baggy tops everyday. It's hard to find things that suit you when your body feels so different and it's not like anyone's swimming in money on mat leave to go shopping either.

I really would try Vinted again though, I've got some real bargains there.

thank you. Its exactly how i feel!

No. Those poor kids in China forced to make the plastic tat. Charity shops would work better if you need to try clothes in and better quality too.

SussexLass87 · 06/04/2025 07:58

No - read about the conditions their workers endure - especially children. I don't have a huge budget and I don't use it.

Use Vinted: Search for brands that you like and know your size in, if they don't fit it takes moments to resell it.

Admittedly it's one of the most creative justifications for supporting chinese slave labour that i've come across.

CoffeeTable22 · 06/04/2025 08:21

I get all sorts from Shein. Most of it fits fine. The material can be a bit questionable but I'm not that fussy with that sort of thing.
It saves me so much money to spend on other things.

Ethically it isn't great, but I'm dubious other brands are really any better.

KittensGardenofVerses · 06/04/2025 08:23

No. Uses slave labour. Worst of the worst.

You're better off going to Primark. At least they try and keep their supply chain clean.

Nevermindthebuzzard · 06/04/2025 08:25

Hyperfish808 · 06/04/2025 07:13

No they don't. There's nothing more important to those people than being able to buy the cheap shitty clothes they feel they're entitled to, regardless of the impact on the human beings that are forced to make them in inhuman conditions, and the impact on the planet of wearing something a couple of times before throwing it away, where it stays in landfill for hundreds of years. That's before we even get onto the environmental impact of producing all this plastic shite in the first place.

Suzuki76 · 06/04/2025 08:27

No. Awful company and quality. Try supermarkets. Tu and F&F are particularly good.

Hazeby · 06/04/2025 08:34

I wouldn’t buy my whole wardrobe from Shein but it’s good for a few cheap things, especially summer stuff which doesn’t need to be high quality. Never had a problem returning things.

Vinted is good but obviously you have far less choice and I personally am not going to wear second hand clothes so limit it to new with tags only. So unlikely to get something specific I’m after.

Nothanksiwillwalk · 06/04/2025 08:37

I buy from shein. My budget isn't great so I can't buy high end fashion and I don't think they are much worse ethically than other high street shops.

I'm careful what I buy, I check the reviews and review photos. What I have bought (tailored trousers, jumpers and dresses for work) have actually been good quality and I have worn and worn them.

I'm fussy with fabrics, I prefer cotton and soft fabrics and I've found the pieces I've bought ok. Anything that has been delivered that is a shiny polyester - I've returned (returns are easy).

I don't like vinted, I've bought a few items and have been disappointed and unable to return them.

I do however, buy the majority or my clothes now from charity shops. You can try them on and decide if you want to keep. I'm a size 10 and there are loads of nice clothes in my size. When I was larger (size 16), I didn't find so much.

Hyperfish808 · 06/04/2025 08:41

You wouldn’t wear second hand but you’d wear something produced by exploiting workers and fucking up the environment? Ok then.

All these posters failing to acknowledge the multiple previous posts highlighting the significant problems with Shein and happily posting about their purchases from said company is just mind blowing.

Hyperfish808 · 06/04/2025 08:42

And yes Shein are worse than other high street brands. Though lots of them aren’t great either.

GooseberryBeret · 06/04/2025 08:43

I agree with those saying try Vinted again - you could ask sellers for measurements, or as others say, stick to brands you have an idea of sizing? Also in their sizing categories e.g. XL = 14 so look for ones which are specific about what’s on the label.

I find Vinted works best with a bit of time spent browsing and working out the best filters on quality, material, colour etc.
