OP you’ll be absolutely fine. 100%. My waist is only a few inches smaller than yours and I have loads of spare belt.

TheJollyMoose · 31/03/2025 10:36

Yes, god forbid we get people to take some responsibility for their weight 🧐

I am sure OP doesn't need some randoms to tell her about her weight. Always a few cunts ready to stick the boot in on posts like this, predictably it didn't take long.

Bogginsthe3rd · 31/03/2025 12:44

I'm using her measurements! If there's one airline to doublecheck measurements with its Ryanair!

🙄 using her measurements yet everyone else on this thread has managed to do it without sounding like an arse

CookieSue222 · 31/03/2025 12:52

I'm sure at a size 16 your will have no problems at all. I've always fitted at size 20/22. The only person I've ever known who needed an extension belt is my lovely SIL who is size 26/28.

clary · 31/03/2025 12:53

The belt only goes round half (or slightly more) of your waist tho if you think about it.

So a 30 inch belt would work for a 50 inch waist.

Sorry if others have said this but the first few posts mentioned extenders which @ThisVividGreenEagle does not need.

ETA I see that others say the same.

Idontjetwashthefucker · 31/03/2025 10:07

At size 16 i don't think you need to worry, I flew at size 22 on Ryanair, Jet2 and Qatar with no issues

Yes, I was a size 22 when I flew from Edinburgh to Cork two years ago.

ForTealBee · 31/03/2025 12:54

Size 16 is a 35 inch waist not a 40 inch.

Comedycook · 31/03/2025 13:05

I haven't flown Ryanair but I'm a size 16 and have never once struggled with a seatbelt on a plane. Even if you did, they'd just give you an extender. It's a non issue

Comedycook · 31/03/2025 13:09

BMW6 · 31/03/2025 10:18

OP if your waist is 40" then you are size 22 not 16.

Size 16 would be 34" waist.

I was interested in this and just measured my waist...it's 40 inches...I'm definitely a size 16 though...a true size 16...not just a 16 in stretchy clothes. A size 22 would absolutely swamp me and fall off.

Unless I'm measuring my waist totally wrong

ThisVividGreenEagle · 31/03/2025 13:11

sorry guys 35 not 40 rounded up to be on safe side

You'll be fine

SleepyHollowed84 · 31/03/2025 10:11

You’ll be fine but they have extenders onboard if it doesn’t fit. You shouldn’t be worried.

do you think they would kick you off the plane?!

haha no lol just preparing for worst x

Are you sure you've got your waist measurement right? If you have, how are you a size 14?

16 and no i rounded up im 35 inches but didnt realise how much it mattered

OP posts:
Beeloux · 31/03/2025 13:14

They will have seatbelt extensions but you shouldn’t need one. On the airline I used to work for, you couldn’t sit in emergency exit seats if you need the seatbelt extension though. :)

I flew lots as a size 16, always had plenty of room left in the belt to extend if needed.
Please don’t worry and focus on enjoying your holiday ☺️

I definitely read something by a fat writer who said it happened to her. Either Sofie Hagen or Roxane Gay, I think.

Surely their entire schtick is 'I'm a big woman', so making stuff up that never happened pays the bills!

That's some round up!

PigglyWigglyOhYeah · 31/03/2025 13:20

I’m fatter than you and fitted in with no problems. I did ask quietly for a seatbelt extender as I was greeted by cabin crew as we got on the plane (as this seemed less of a nightmare than having to find someone to ask once we were seated) but I didn’t need it. You will be fine.

Strange how the very obese people you meet in real life tell just the same kinds of stories they do, when it's paying for nothing.

Ever been told by a man that your own experiences with sexism didn't happen? I have. Telling people that their own experience of discrimination, whether it's racism or sexism or anything else, isn't real just makes it more painful.

Fupoffyagrasshole · 31/03/2025 13:26

Bogginsthe3rd · 31/03/2025 10:12

That does seem a bit risky at your size/ circumference. Can you not just ask for a belt extender on the plane if needed though ? When is the flight ? Could you slim down before a bit to be safe (if it's a summer holiday)?

Wtf

Of course they wouldn't kick someone off the plane, but it's bloody embarrassing to have to ask for an extender, so that's why she's asking about it.

Why are you being so sarcastic when someone's worrying?

mine is about 35-36 i double checked definetly either rounded up earlier or don wrong but a size 22 is absouloutley massive on me as i always tend to size up ridiculously and have to send back but i have googled and 35-41 can be a size 16 too x

I'm male and when I wore 40 inch waist trousers I easily fit seatbelts on planes, Ryanair included, with inches to spare. (Now down to 36 inch woohoo!)
