She ordered a Curry and hasn’t paid me

Friend came to my house

I was going to cook but she asked if I fancied a curry. I said that would be really nice actually

Her JustEat app wasn’t working so I said have a look on mine for places that are open. She picked Indian.

I put everything I wanted in and she added hers. Total came to £52ish. Over 65% of that cost was hers.

I said I could just check out and sort it later. I have messaged to ask if she had the money today as a gentle reminder, and she said she thought it was my treat?

I said oh, we must have got crossed wires then. She said ‘I did cover the shop’

She went to the corner shop for wine and snacks. I got a Grape Fanta!

Where do I go from here? Leave it? Was it reasonable for her to assume it was in fact my treat?

"Sorry hun, cant afford to treat anyone in this ecomnomy 😆 Send me £X for the food and I'll send you £2 for the fanta."

TwinklyRoseTurtle · 22/03/2025 20:53

I would message her back and say you are confused as you only got a Fanta from the shop which doesn’t cover a £50 bill- send her the amount she owes with your bank details, however could be the end of friendship but who would want a friend like that anyway

DenholmElliot11 · 22/03/2025 20:53

OK, exactly how much money are we talking about here.

65% of the total figure, less the snacks?

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 22/03/2025 20:53

Message her back and be firm.
Tell her the amount you believe she owes you.

Also, be prepared for this to end your friendship. She'll be annoyed you've asked for the money, and you'll be annoyed at how much of a CF she is.

Rocketpants50 · 22/03/2025 20:53

Just tell her to stop being an idiot and to send you half the money, oh and if she likes she can take off the money for the fanta if that bothers her.

DenholmElliot11 · 22/03/2025 20:54

And the answer to anyone who ever says "I thought it was your treat" is "what made you think that?"

Happyspendingthedayinthegarden · 22/03/2025 20:55

YANBU - cheeky CF!! Even my DH will pay his way on the odd occasion that we have a take-away/Just Eat. I've been registered on Just Eat for years, he isn't, so I will pay out of my personal account & he will ask how much he owes & put the money into my account or give me the cash.

Iknowaboutpopular · 22/03/2025 20:56

Of course she wasn't reasonable, the cheeky madam! She suggested it, how can it then be your treat?

TomatoSandwiches · 22/03/2025 20:56

But she asked for a curry/ takeaway....
Did she leave wine and lots of snacks at your house?

Soontobe60 · 22/03/2025 20:58

What were you going to cook?

OnePeachA · 22/03/2025 20:58

The wine (I don’t drink) and snacks were for her, and she took the remaining snacks home with her

Happyspendingthedayinthegarden · 22/03/2025 20:58

£52 for 2 Indian meals?!!!😨

Ooo that’s a good one! Going to have to steal it

OMG CF!! Is she usually like this?

Spaghetti with a tyre

Spaghetti carbonara! Bloody typo

Then she's a CF, tell her a £2 can of Fanta does not = a fair equivalent of the £50+ meal, she owes you £23 at least.

She use to do lots of baking and bring the goods into our old workplace. We were always good work friends and I hadn’t seen her in a few years but got talking on Instagram due to a shared interest

OneFineDay13 · 22/03/2025 21:01

No way would I do that to a friend (or even have the balls to do it to anyone)

Spaghetti with a tyre

This has made me laugh 😆

Spaghetti with a tyre

I now want a recipe for spaghetti with a tyre...
(Totally off topic. Your friend is a CF)

PeggyMitchellsCameo · 22/03/2025 21:05

Spaghetti with a tyre has made my night!!!
The absolute CF. And her Just Eat not working, aged stitched you up like a kipper there.
Get back to her and tell her exactly what she owes you.
You may not get it and be prepared to never see her again.
I think she’s taken advantage of your kindness and never mind getting a delivery, hers is more like a ‘stand and deliver-y!’

arcticpandas · 22/03/2025 21:05

CF! Remind her you were going to cook but she said she wanted to order a curry so you thought it would be her treat but you're willing to split the Bill with her even though she ordered more than you.

£52 for 2 Indian meals?!!!😨

Pretty reasonable for starters, mains, rice, bread, sides for two?

MrsWhites · 22/03/2025 21:08

Reply saying ‘the curry was your idea, whatever made you think it was my treat? Here are my account details, feel free to deduct the £2 for my can of Fanta’
