She ordered a Curry and hasn’t paid me

Friend came to my house

I was going to cook but she asked if I fancied a curry. I said that would be really nice actually

Her JustEat app wasn’t working so I said have a look on mine for places that are open. She picked Indian.

I put everything I wanted in and she added hers. Total came to £52ish. Over 65% of that cost was hers.

I said I could just check out and sort it later. I have messaged to ask if she had the money today as a gentle reminder, and she said she thought it was my treat?

I said oh, we must have got crossed wires then. She said ‘I did cover the shop’

She went to the corner shop for wine and snacks. I got a Grape Fanta!

Where do I go from here? Leave it? Was it reasonable for her to assume it was in fact my treat?

You won't see the money.
You should not have agreed to a takeaway and let her use your phone. You had food in.
Lesson.learnt.

😂had a mental image of a tyre placed on the table with cooked spaghetti wound all around it and the centre of the tyre filled with a tasty bolognese sauce.

As for your "friend", what a shameless creature she is!

I was thinking like chicken in a basket but spaghetti in a tire, family style 🤣

Spaghetti with a tyre

Tell your CF friend she should tread carefully.

Her reply says

‘Oh right. I didn’t realise but never mind!! I’ll have to go into branch cos I don’t do online banking. Or I can hand * the cash to give you, she lives nearby doesn’t she’

Is she 80 because no one younger than that doesn’t have online banking these days.

Ask her to pay you via Paypal then

MrsEverest · 22/03/2025 22:29

I eat rice and a bit of naan. I feel lucky to have a good appetite and no disordered thinking around food. I’m also lucky that a few spoonfuls of rice and a bit of bread with an occasional takeaway doesn’t render me instantly obese.

Bit weird your friend orders food through apps but can’t do online money transfers……

Sunshineofyourlove · 22/03/2025 22:30

This thread is weird

Yeah, she needs to get a grip!

The sweaty chopped lettuce and slices of lemon. We had a takeaway this week and my daughter asked “who ordered this?” To which I replied “No fucker ever one dear.”

😂

I wouldn't allow her to let a third person get involved though, that just makes it more of a mess.

That’s what’s she’s banking on though.
I’d call her bluff, “yes she does live by me so if you can give her the money thanks”

Errorcreatingusername · 22/03/2025 22:35

i know people who don’t do online banking so I kinda get that. In this case I’m guessing she’s bullshitting though, just like she was about her app not working.

id just reply with -
Ok no problem just go to the branch on Monday then and pop it across. I need it Monday though please, cost of living and all that. Thanks

I wouldn’t get xx involved because you won’t see the money and she’ll be saying well did give it to xx it’s her problem now :(

MeganM3 · 22/03/2025 22:39

3 x nann between two … that’s a lot.

@Errorcreatingusername The first response sounds better. The second one could cause drama if dragging another person in the midst of this and implying someone else will keep the money etc.

fluffyblanky · 22/03/2025 22:43

Keep us updated to what she replies !

PopcornPoppingInAPan · 22/03/2025 22:44

I’ve not RTFT but YABVeryU to drink grape Fanta - utterly vile!

SavageTomato · 22/03/2025 22:44

She sees you as a meal ticket. Write off that money and get rid of her. This won't improve. She's a leech.

StartEngine · 22/03/2025 22:32

@StartEngine Well, to be fair, she wasn’t interested in OP’s spaghetti with a tire 😋. Otherwise she might have got one 🛞.

"Sorry hun, cant afford to treat anyone in this ecomnomy 😆 Send me £X for the food and I'll send you £2 for the fanta."

Inspired!

CatsWhiskerz · 22/03/2025 22:45

Cheeky cow!
Just tell her either is fine as long as it's early next week!
Fucking cheeky cow ~ who expects an old colleague they've not seen for ages to foot their bill 😵‍💫

Lassango · 22/03/2025 22:46

She is taking the piss. She was the one that wanted the takeaway and she now needs to pay you back.

grumpygrape · 22/03/2025 22:47

Togglebullets · 22/03/2025 22:08

You have a whole naan between 2 people? I just ask our local Indian to shake a few crumbs into a bag. The 5 of us are stuffed when we've eaten all that. We don't need to eat again for a week

Do you live in a cardboard box or a hole in the ground ? 😉😅

Catwoman8 · 22/03/2025 22:47

So her Just Eat app was conveniently not working and she doesn't do online banking? Yeah right, more like she doesn't like putting her hand in her pocket! Her response is shitty too, on principal I'd be wanting back my money as I wouldn't be surprised if she pulls this trick often.

cottoncandy260 · 22/03/2025 22:48

MightAsWellBeGretel · 22/03/2025 21:08

What a CF! I'd be so mortified if I'd thought something was a 'treat' and got it wrong, I'd never admit it and transfer my half post haste. She's blatantly trying it on and is no friend!

Exactly this. Maybe she did genuinely think it was your treat but the minute she saw your text asking for money, she should have just paid up and not mentioned anything.

I couldn’t imagine having the gall to turn around and say ‘I thought it was your treat’.

Imagine not having the sensitivity and self awareness to realise that someone asking you to pay your half means they’ve been put in a difficult position and are probably quite embarrassed to ask you. You then put them in an even more difficult position by challenging their request.

Bunnycat101 · 22/03/2025 22:48

The trick with this is to get people to do a bank transfer before you press pay. It only takes a few seconds now most people have a banking app.

Also for work, I’ve been using a pool app and it makes life so much easier. I’ve been shafted too many times in the past and I’ve become hard line about this now with people I don’t know well enough re their approach to money.

Honestly who doesn’t use online banking? She’s pulling a fast one. Even my mum who can barely work a computer and doesn’t have a mobile has internet banking.
