She ordered a Curry and hasn’t paid me

Friend came to my house

I was going to cook but she asked if I fancied a curry. I said that would be really nice actually

Her JustEat app wasn’t working so I said have a look on mine for places that are open. She picked Indian.

I put everything I wanted in and she added hers. Total came to £52ish. Over 65% of that cost was hers.

I said I could just check out and sort it later. I have messaged to ask if she had the money today as a gentle reminder, and she said she thought it was my treat?

I said oh, we must have got crossed wires then. She said ‘I did cover the shop’

She went to the corner shop for wine and snacks. I got a Grape Fanta!

Where do I go from here? Leave it? Was it reasonable for her to assume it was in fact my treat?

She use to do lots of baking and bring the goods into our old workplace. We were always good work friends and I hadn’t seen her in a few years but got talking on Instagram due to a shared interest

I have a friend who is similar - in that she liked baking & used to regularly bring cakes etc into work. During covid restrictions, once we were allowed she would invite friends to her house to sit in her garden (socially distanced) & have afternoon tea with cakes etc. However, I always rang her beforehand & would arrange to bring clotted cream, some of my home-made jam etc. I also always took something with me - a packet of biscuits, flowers, chocolate etc in addition to the contribution to the tea that we had agreed. We noticed that one friend in particular never offered to help out with bringing stuff & always arrived empty handed. Needless to say, this friend also left before things needed to be cleared away & washed up. Some people are just selfish takers.

MightAsWellBeGretel · 22/03/2025 21:08

What a CF! I'd be so mortified if I'd thought something was a 'treat' and got it wrong, I'd never admit it and transfer my half post haste. She's blatantly trying it on and is no friend!

LucyBee0ox · 22/03/2025 21:11

Wow YANBU. Keep on at her until you get the money. How cheeky.

Spaghetti with a tyre

That is the best autocorrect I have seen for ages! Genuinely laughed out loud!

Though if you sent her that, it would explain why she wanted a take away!

Trickabrick · 22/03/2025 21:16

“Ha ha, afraid not, I was happy to cook carbonara 😂 Here’s my bank details, feel free to deduct the £2 for my drink from the £X you owe me for your food”

Projectme · 22/03/2025 21:16

Spaghetti with a tyre?! 🤣 sorry OP but that really made me laugh.

And she's a CF. Message her back and say "what gave you that idea; I was cooking and you then suggested a takeaway which I agreed to so surely its a 50/50 thing, especially after me saying that I would "check out and sort it later".

I love a good CF thread

BunnyLake · 22/03/2025 21:16

stillwaitingtobepaid · 22/03/2025 21:02

This has made me laugh 😆

I thought no wonder she wanted a takeaway 😁

Thunderpants88 · 22/03/2025 21:17

I can’t BELIEVE anyone would have the balls to say “oh I thought it was your treat” when being reminded to pay for something they suggested, ordered and ate.

nightmare

I would reply “no not my treat. I was planning on making spaghetti and had bought the ingredients. Your total is £33.05 - £2 for the Fanta you brought = £31.05. Here are my bank details. Fire me a wee text when you have transferred it 👍 thanks”

please update us

Hdjdb42 · 22/03/2025 21:17

I'd reply, "no it wasn't my treat, sorry! Your amount comes to £34.80p. Please send it over xx"

MissRachelismycoparent · 22/03/2025 21:17

Spaghetti with a tyre 😂😂😂🤦‍♀️

Spaghetti with a tyre

😂had a mental image of a tyre placed on the table with cooked spaghetti wound all around it and the centre of the tyre filled with a tasty bolognese sauce.

As for your "friend", what a shameless creature she is!

Reply saying ‘the curry was your idea, whatever made you think it was my treat? Here are my account details, feel free to deduct the £2 for my can of Fanta’

I think this reply is perfect!!!

She sounds so cheeky, I am in shock by how some people operate. Can you ever imagine ACTUALLY suggesting a takeaway and then saying you thought it was the other persons treat? Unbelievable. Push this further, she doesn’t deserve to get away with it!

littleluncheon · 22/03/2025 21:22

Say ok take the money for the fanta off the curry that you ordered, so just £30 to pay me.

Butchyrestingface · 22/03/2025 21:23

I was going to cook but she asked if I fancied a curry. I said that would be really nice actually

Presumably you bought the contents for the meal and the arrangement was she would supply the "and sundries"?

I do think she's a CF but I wonder if the above is what led to her believe (if indeed, she actually did) that the delivery should be on you since you had offered to cook?

I do feel I'm reaching a bit though. She's probably just your average, garden variety pisstaker.

BigDeepBreaths · 22/03/2025 21:23

Her JustEat app wasn’t working

yeah, right 🧐

DDDSSF223 · 22/03/2025 21:24

What are you going to text her?

SerenaSemolena · 22/03/2025 21:24

Spaghetti carbonara. Just typed it to see what came up. But just that. So funny, op.
I was thinking the tyre must be a round garlic bread

She's no friend, and no loss so just tell her to pay her share.

Rattai · 22/03/2025 21:25

I can't wait to hear her response to whatever text you decide to send

surreygirl1987 · 22/03/2025 21:26

Absolutely shocked by your friend.

Spaghetti with a tyre

Perhaps you cooked the spaghetti for too long!

BunnyLake · 22/03/2025 21:27

BigDeepBreaths · 22/03/2025 21:23

Her JustEat app wasn’t working

yeah, right 🧐

But OP’s was (luckily for her).

Some people really have some gall.

Calliopespa · 22/03/2025 21:27

“ It wasn’t my treat; it was yours.

You suggested curry when I was all set to cook spaghetti with a tyre. But I’m happy to cover the cost of my curry and Fanta nonetheless.”

2Hot2Handle · 22/03/2025 21:28

CheesePlantBoxes · 22/03/2025 20:52

"Sorry hun, cant afford to treat anyone in this ecomnomy 😆 Send me £X for the food and I'll send you £2 for the fanta."

This is a pretty perfect response! Go with this!

Spaghetti with a tyre

Way more filling than even a £50 curry 🍴

Bogginsthe3rd · 22/03/2025 21:31

Happyspendingthedayinthegarden · 22/03/2025 20:58

£52 for 2 Indian meals?!!!😨

I know. A bargain. Must have also had a discount code.
