She ordered a Curry and hasn’t paid me

Friend came to my house

I was going to cook but she asked if I fancied a curry. I said that would be really nice actually

Her JustEat app wasn’t working so I said have a look on mine for places that are open. She picked Indian.

I put everything I wanted in and she added hers. Total came to £52ish. Over 65% of that cost was hers.

I said I could just check out and sort it later. I have messaged to ask if she had the money today as a gentle reminder, and she said she thought it was my treat?

I said oh, we must have got crossed wires then. She said ‘I did cover the shop’

She went to the corner shop for wine and snacks. I got a Grape Fanta!

Where do I go from here? Leave it? Was it reasonable for her to assume it was in fact my treat?

I now want a recipe for spaghetti with a tyre...
(Totally off topic. Your friend is a CF)

I love a bit of tyre with my spag - my preference is for a well used Michelin nicely marinaded in a sweet chillie sauce😂

OnePeachA · 22/03/2025 21:34

Slightly side tracking but the poster replying with a shock to the 2 meals costing £52, does that seem a lot then?! I thought it was average

I have text to say ‘Sorry, no treats I’m afraid. This is my account details x xxxx. Hope to meet up again soon‘

£52 for 2 Indian meals?!!!😨

Royal Rumble Wow GIF by WWE

Yeah, this was my face last time I looked at the prices!

TwinklyRoseTurtle · 22/03/2025 20:53

I would message her back and say you are confused as you only got a Fanta from the shop which doesn’t cover a £50 bill- send her the amount she owes with your bank details, however could be the end of friendship but who would want a friend like that anyway

This. What an ignoramus.

TheGhostOfPatButcher · 22/03/2025 21:35

But then, I stopped ordering them when it got to £40 for four of us!! 😂

Well, maybe I live in a cheap area (Devon), but we had a very tasty Indian meal for 2 delivered last week & it cost £38.

ForestFox44 · 22/03/2025 21:37

The facts she even admitted she thought it was your treat... when clearly it wasn't after you messaged and then said she covered the shop 😅 some people have no shame!

OnePeachA · 22/03/2025 21:38

On the list was

Butter chicken
Sweet Naan x3
Rice
Vindaloo and rice
Coke 1Ltr
Delivery fee £5

Going back to op,it seems a bit convenient that her takeaway app wasn't working.
Good on you for telling her to stump up.

BatchCookBabe · 22/03/2025 21:38

I'd let her keep the money @OnePeachA and fuck her off. Don't bother with her again. She clearly has no intention of paying you the money back. What's that saying 'if someone borrows £20 and you never see them again, it was worth it!' Block her now!

Also, I genuinely wondered what 'spaghetti with a tyre' was! Thought it was real ... Like sometimes when you get your food served on a slice of slate! Blush😆

Also, 2 Indian takeaways, £52?! WOW, that's a lot. Me and DH pay around £22-£25 for the two of us. £52 is extortionate! And £35 of it was hers?! WTF did she have? Half the menu?!

Spaghetti with a tyre

This is something the mafia would serve, whilst being very charming.

SheridansPortSalut · 22/03/2025 21:39

Did you pay her for all the baked goods she brought into work?

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 22/03/2025 21:40

"My treat? You suggested it. I would have been happy to cook. Sorry, I'm afraid I can't afford to treat people right now, so if you could pay me £30 when you get a chance, I'd appreciate it."

How is that relevant?

littleluncheon · 22/03/2025 21:40

Poppadoms and chutney, two curries, two pilau rice and a peshwari naan would be £37 at my local pricey takeaway so £52 does seem quite steep to me!

So many layers of rude
No I’m not eating your food, let’s order in
No you’re paying, and I’m ordering a huge meal
No I’m not sharing anything, I’m taking my crisps home with me

Just… how?

YANBU - cheeky CF!! Even my DH will pay his way on the odd occasion that we have a take-away/Just Eat. I've been registered on Just Eat for years, he isn't, so I will pay out of my personal account & he will ask how much he owes & put the money into my account or give me the cash.

??????????????????

'Hi Sandra, either you pay for your share of the food minus the £2 for the Fanta which I owe you. or the friendship ends.'

If she ends it you make sure you never ever speak to her again.

OnePeachA · 22/03/2025 21:45

Her reply says

‘Oh right. I didn’t realise but never mind!! I’ll have to go into branch cos I don’t do online banking. Or I can hand * the cash to give you, she lives nearby doesn’t she’

‘Friend’ is a cf, she needs to at the very least pay half. Tightness is the worst trait.

You both got rice; who ordered 3 naans? I cant believe it was £52 with no starters!

Oh dear, she'll have to go into the branch then won't she, like it's the 20th century.

By the way, if she can save her card details to the Just Eat app, she can do online banking.
