How much have you got left in your current account? If payday is Monday? I think I’m doing quite well with 141.36 šŸ˜…
Single parent trying hard to save more so I’m thrilled šŸ™ŒšŸ™Œ

My payday is Tuesday and I have 3p, no petrol and hardly any food. We’ve had a tough couple of months due to our oldest DS being made redundant and me giving him nearly half of my wages to pay his rent and bills. Thankfully he starts a new job on Monday!!!

EmeraldShamrock000 · 22/03/2025 08:54

Anything over 50 is a bonus.

Well done, if you can mange, I'd start saving 20 per week while you're ahead.

I never had a cushion when the children were little, I have a small amount of emergency saving now that really relieved the financial stress of getting from week to week.

Zippidydoodah · 22/03/2025 08:54

My payday isn’t til 31st and I’m negative about Ā£200. šŸ™„

Astrak · 22/03/2025 08:56

That is tough! I’m so glad he starts a new job Monday! What an amazing parent you are to do that for him! He will remember that he can rely on you in times of need and that is worth its weight in gold!

Yeah to be fair my car is in the garage so the money will be used when I get it back! And then some!

I don't have much in savings but have had to transfer some back to current account this month to get by. Costs such as dentist and having to have my ears suctioned have caused this.

skippy67 · 22/03/2025 09:09

My payday is 31st. Current balance is £433.75. Still got broadband and phone bill to be deducted for this month.

dontforgetme · 22/03/2025 09:10

I was negative £23.47

Unexpectedly been paid today though!!!

Payday is Tuesday
I have £127.82 left over

LeoTimmyandVi · 22/03/2025 09:13

Ā£37.54 precisely - that is just from my spending money. I have a separate account for bills and food elsewhere.

PickledElectricity · 22/03/2025 09:16

Payday is Friday, the penultimate working day of the month. Means I'm always having to figure out when I'll actually be paid!

I have about £500 after spending £100 on kids clothing and house bits and a top up shop yesterday.

Ollybob · 22/03/2025 09:18

£8 - get paid next Friday do have a couple of vinted payments before then of about £20.
Normal for me and I'm fed up of it, had a lot of bad luck with jobs for several years ( COVID, roles restructured, businesses going bump etc) and so am on minimum wage again at not enough hours but am also fed up at changing jobs so bloody often!

Shergill15 · 22/03/2025 09:20

£55. But £50 of that needs to go out tomorrow to pay wraparound childcare for the week ahead. Been a really tight few months. There's food in though and a small amount on a credit card in case of any dire emergency!

Zippidydoodah · 22/03/2025 09:20

Every time I think I’ve paid off the overdraft and will stay out of it from now on, I just… don’t. It’s crazy how much everything is going up in price!

OP- you’ve done really well!

HelenWheels · 22/03/2025 09:22

not very much, have been robbing from savings
looking forward to a BIG shop on Monday!

Bollindger · 22/03/2025 09:22

Tip I founded out.
Lots of places let you use PayPal.
It takes 2 days to clear...
Uber do food lots like Iceland do half price veg on a Monday, if you stock up you save. If you invite friends they give you both money off. £12.
Then then send you lots of spend £15 get half price ECT. It actually starts to add up , I save £100 this way last month.

Thisissuss · 22/03/2025 09:22

Annoyingly my payday seems to be whenever they like - anywhere between 21st and 25th for the last few months.
I have about £12 in my account. Luckily nothing on this weekend.
Why do companies wait over weekends to pay when other companies can take payments out over weekends, does anyone know?

Starryknightcloud · 22/03/2025 09:23

Good work OP!
I had £15 this month which I was pleased with.
I take all my savings out on payday so they are available if needed

Sparklehead · 22/03/2025 09:27

Payday is Tuesday and I have £165 in my account. Have been trying really hard to have some left at the end of each month which I can then transfer into savings. Have been in bed with Covid for past 3 days so that has helped the no-spend days!

Posts like this are pointless without context.

One person will say they've 20 pence left but it's because they transfer £300 directly into their savings every month by standing order on payday, and have a nice pot of several thousand sat in another account.

And ultimately someone in rented accommodation frantically saving to buy probably has a few thousand saved but they are nonetheless less secure overall than someone who owns their own home and can meet all their outgoings every month but only have £20 left over by the day before payday.

Im not going to post what I've got, because it's not helpful. Suffice to say it's a lot more these days than it was in the years when I was shelling out hundreds every month for childcare etc.
The years when you have kids under age 7/8 are easily the most expensive and our financial situation has improved vastly in recent years as kids are aging out of childcare.
I've gone from never having much left each month to comfortably saving plenty and always having lots left at the end of the month.

I do the same with a set amount on payday but I hate having to transfer back so I’m hesitant to put too much in. I’ll transfer what’s left on Sunday night

Payday is the 30th and we have Ā£6. Guess I’ll be hitting prolific to earn some money!
