To make myself some brekkie

Raindropskeepfallinonmyhead · 01/03/2025 15:36

Did park run this morning then straight to do a food shop then home. Absolutely starving. Dd was baking some cookies for dh as a surprise so we told him to stay out of the kitchen for a bit. Made myself some brekkie, called through to dh to see if he wanted anything. Hit the roof cos l had already made my own. Told me l am rude. Said l am hungry after running and he said ffs it's all about you.

Hmm it really isn't!!

So made himself and sandwich and not spoken since!

Is he the dick or am l?!

Am off out tonight so don't give a flying one if he wants to ignore me!!

Sorry she had gone out by this point - it was after he was allowed back in kitchen!

@Raindropskeepfallinonmyhead why didnt you make some breakfast for him though when you made your own, especially if he was not allowed in the kitchen?

Tillybud81 · 01/03/2025 15:43

I'd ask for this thread to be moved to relationships OP, you'll get loads on here telling you you should have made the poor wee thing some brekkie too, like he's an incapable child.

How many times does he make you breakfast out of curiosity?

magicstar1 · 01/03/2025 15:44

When you say made breakfast, was it a bowl of cereal, or a cooked breakfast? A bowl of cereal would have taken him seconds to get, but if you'd cooked yourself a full English, then I can understand him being pissed off.

cheseandme · 01/03/2025 15:46

Well I made myself a bacon sandwich this morning and it never occurred to me to offer husband one ! What a pathetic reason to throw a strop YANBU.

But she’ll no doubt be used to this kind of tension between her parents. Correct?

Charcoalpen · 01/03/2025 15:48

He kicked off at you

but he wasn’t allowed in the kitchen so couldn’t make himself anything so I suppose it would have been nice to ask him op before you started making your own sarnie rather than after (which seems a bit daft op as surely easier to do at same time as yours!)

Shed been out all morning. Why didn't he make breakfast earlier while she was out and have it waiting for her getting back from doing the food shop?

Charcoalpen · 01/03/2025 15:52

It’s two people who don’t really like one another and exchanges like this are probably just party of the daily tapestry of family life. Bit shit really

Yeah, i'd have cooked for everyone.

HopingForTheBest25 · 01/03/2025 15:59

I think a grown arse man can get himself some breakfast. I'm sure the kitchen wasn't occupied by dd the whole time OP was out!

bunnypenny · 01/03/2025 16:03

Did he know the reason he wasn’t allowed in the kitchen was because of cookies? Perhaps he thought you were making him a surprise breakfast so was annoyed you hadn’t and had just made your own?

Weepixie · 01/03/2025 16:05

If I’d prevented someone coming into the kitchen even for a good reason I’d have made them breakfast even if I wasn’t having any.

But there was no need for the nastiness from your husband.

Downtoearthandsinksthesun · 01/03/2025 16:05

He wasn't allowed in the kitchen. I honestly couldn't imagine not asking anyone who was in the house with me if they wanted anything when I was making my own. My husband would be the same. Did you eat what you had bought when you were shopping?

That said, the strop was uncalled for.

Do you usually make each other breakfast?

Dolambslikemintsauce · 01/03/2025 16:07

Would he have ate the same? I use oat milk for my porridge so wouldn't offer to make dh a dairy version.. Haven't time usually!

Endofyear · 01/03/2025 16:07

If I was making breakfast for myself, I would usually ask DH if he wanted some. Isn't that normal?

TomatoSandwiches · 01/03/2025 16:09

Oh no did the big man have to wait a bit for some food?! How dare you op.

Presumably you hadn't banned your DH from the kitchen like OP did?

HelenWheels · 01/03/2025 16:10

goodness you did offer him some?
is this out of character op? or a daily occurrence

biscuitsandbooks · 01/03/2025 16:10

I can't imagine telling my DH he wasn't allowed in his own kitchen, cooking myself some breakfast and then not even asking if he wanted any until afterwards.

I think you were mean, tbh. Your poor DD growing up around this nonsense.

Why was he not allowed in the kitchen but you were fine it use it and make breakfast?

ItGhoul · 01/03/2025 16:16

What sort of breakfast? I mean, I wouldn’t expect someone else to make me a bowl of cereal or a slice of toast, when they were having one, but I’d be a bit pissed off if my partner didn’t offer me anything if he was actually cooking. Also, did you know he hadn’t eaten yet? Do you usually eat breakfast together?

I can’t bring myself to use the word ‘brekkie’.

Completelyjo · 01/03/2025 16:11

dd was making cookies for the dh, as a treat - thus he wasnt allowed in
