Well I know Facebook has pretty much had it's day anyway. But lately, my feed is full of the most disgusting, racist hate videos and also videos of dogs apparently on their last day before being put down. It's sick

I keep clicking 'not interested' but it just keeps on coming. Why the hell are those stupid videos on Facebook anyway??? It seems to be completely impossible to get rid of them.

Whenever I report anything, nothing is done about it. Now it appears to have taken over as a propaganda platform for the far right.

AIBU to think if Facebook need to get a grip on this?

I think it needs to he shut down, all be it temporarily until they can get a handle on all the crap.

Not to mention the stupid videos of women cleaning their kitchens! What is the actual point?

Facebook is a cesspit now. It’s like it’s been left to go to ruin.
You might have clicked on those things once out of curiosity and then your algorithm is showing you more.

They don’t care about reports I’ve reported people for selling animals, which is not allowed on Facebook and they always say they’ve reviewed and not found a breach.

It’s not always a human that reviews the report either.

I really need to leave but I’ve got a million photos from my life that I need to save first arghhhh

Mine too. Far right, AI and extreme Islamicist videos. None of which are indicated by my ‘likes’. I’m working towards leaving. I’m on BlueSky now which is quite dull but sensible. No one ‘froths’ on there and I’ve followed a lot of academic people so I’m enjoying the content. I find it elevating rather than that sense of wallowing in the filth that you get from Facebook reels 😉

I left over a year ago - I was using it to keep up with old school friends mostly but more and more adverts and pages being pushed with nasty agendas or dubious news and falsified photo's claiming some "history" or other - it was too much and I didn't like where it was going so I left. It's similar to what happened to Twitter when it became X - mass exodus.

All I get are unsolicited cat videos and classic art memes.

I don't even get Temu ads anymore for some reason.

It’s a total bin fire. I want to delete it, but like pp, need to find somewhere to save my photos first.

Facebook is a spam site now. I ended up seeing more spam in place of the regular posts from the interest groups I followed so I ended up packing it in once I figured out I could retain FB messenger whilst deleting FB. That was a great deal in my opinion. Instagram is much better with far less Spam and more focused on my interests.

It is pretty much unusable now, I assume because people just aren't posting on it very much. I am hiding pages or saying not interested to so much of its shit that it is completely confused, I've had everything from busty ladies through to pro Russian pages today, they're just throwing everything at me to see what sticks. Instagram isn't like that.

I downloaded all my information and deleted my account permanently over six years ago. I was a big user of it at one point too but started to find it deeply tedious and shouty. My life has been all the better for leaving it.

Because Zuckerberg has jumped in on the Trump bandwagon.

I'm a big user of Facebook but it is pretty much unusable now and think if it doesn't impress soon will have to move away from it, I'm constantly blocking pages but there's so much stuff on there I'm not interested in

For people who were at university but had to make a basic account for one of my sons activities where they only post on there to notify about stuff !!??? I have no friends on there or activity other than this one group but still see a load of chavy crap. It’s so weird it needs deleting all together.

I have a very old Facebook account that I only signed up for to get some photos of our holiday season job (yep that long ago)

I never sign into it, but a few friends send me links to watch reels (which are too addictive I haven't seen any nasty things just reels mostly of cats and gymnastics and for some reason probably because I keep watching them amazing walks to do in Wales!!

My question is, if I actually signed into my account, would I see different things

it shows me posts by friends and family as well as 1,000,001 reels is this what you see when you sign in or is it very different???

I will be devastated if Facebook shuts down. It's been my lifeline for groups related to having autistic children, experiencing domestic abuse and similar serious topics.

I know it's perfectly possible to move all of this onto other platforms but these sorts of groups take a long time to form and for people to feel comfortable. The ones that have tried to move onto messenger or WhatsApp have fizzled out. Not sure why.

But yes I agree that the rest is pretty much a waste of time. I have to actively look up the groups I want and rarely see friends posts.

How do you save what you’ve posted? I’ve used it as a diary for so many years - serves me right for being so lazy, I suppose. But I’d hate to lose all of that. My feed is just adverts now- no horrid stuff, but nothing really from my friends either.

Yes agreed, I only get shitty AI photos now, I hide/block them everytime but more and more pages pop up. I don't want to leave because I love the memories reminders and there are people on there who i don't actually talk to on a regular basis but i like seeing their updates 😔

I mostly get shown stuff about animals, the environment, and houses... because that's the stuff I click on.

I mostly use it for groups and sometimes the marketplace. I get sucked into the feed by accident.

I saved everything and deleted my account years ago.
I have another account I use purely for business. I've never seen anything like you mention. I actually thought this was about all the annoying AI images/ads.

I have family and friends around the world and we still use it a bit to keep in touch/connected.

the marketplace is useful for getting rid of things , people will take your unwanted stuff saving you the bother of a trip to the dump.

But it's a horrible place to linger and I wish there was a decent alternative.

I literally deleted it today after seeing posts by the Kremlin congratulating their soldiers for the war. Its just crap now. I already feel so much happier.

I've found the same BUT as a last resort before pulling the plug I went into my settings and found that location tracking was on so I turned that off.

Also, other settings (can't remember which) had changed and were allowing trackers. Switched those off too.

So far, all the ads have gone on my feed.

The subheadings in setting take some finding but it might be worth having a tinker before you lose all hope.

I've no doubt the settings will change again soon as ads will be back but it's a nice little respite while they're not there
