WTF has happened to Facebook?

Well I know Facebook has pretty much had it's day anyway. But lately, my feed is full of the most disgusting, racist hate videos and also videos of dogs apparently on their last day before being put down. It's sick

I keep clicking 'not interested' but it just keeps on coming. Why the hell are those stupid videos on Facebook anyway??? It seems to be completely impossible to get rid of them.

Whenever I report anything, nothing is done about it. Now it appears to have taken over as a propaganda platform for the far right.

AIBU to think if Facebook need to get a grip on this?

I think it needs to he shut down, all be it temporarily until they can get a handle on all the crap.

Not to mention the stupid videos of women cleaning their kitchens! What is the actual point?

I like my My FBk feed a lot. There are useless ads but there's more good than annoying content. You do have to actively curate.

I honestly don't get that kind of stuff but the interface is shockingly bad for such a megalith of social media. It just looks old fashioned, very hard to navigate.

I only use it for my groups.

I get a load of old crap, but nothing nasty or sinister. I honestly wouldn't bother with Facebook at all, but my youngest son has two very challenging illnesses and I'm on support groups for both. They have been absolute lifelines for me. Oh and knitting and crochet groups😁

I’m not getting much nasty stuff but I am getting 90% celebrity posts, either gossipy stuff about current slebs or nostalgia photos of old stars. I keep saying I’m not interested. I don’t follow slebs so no idea why the algorithm thinks I want to see all this crap. I have to
actively look for pages I’ve liked about things and people I’m interested in. Just about to give up with it but it has been useful for hobbies and local autism support groups.

It's been going downhill for longer than that.

I absolutely hate it. I get lots of random AI stuff. Fucking celebrities all the time. And lots of misogynistic content about their appearance and how old they look. I don't watch TV, I have no interest in celebrities and never have. Also horrible brain dead jokes that probably wouldn't even impress a 15 year old boy. The whole thing is grim.

I'd LOVE to know:

1. The easiest way to download my photos from FB onto a storage platform (which one?)

1. If you have successfully turned off ads etc how did you do it? Whenever I go to the privacy settings it just some awful labyrinthine minefield that sends me round in loops.

I never post on it. I stay on it to find out what is happening in my area.

Luckily, I've not had anything nasty or upsetting (so far?).

I get loads of AI pictures of houses, (presumably) fake history stories and so many pretend David Attenborough stuff. I also keep getting stories from "The Dull Men's Club". TBF I'm not part of the group but I do read the things that come up on my feed because they are often quite amusing.

Oh and bloody 5min craft. That's my own fault because I get suckered in. "100 things to do with a hot glue gun you say? Count me in!". 1hr later and several "crafts" that are awful at best or fetish material and still, the next day "oh. What's she doing in that screen shot of a peice of foam and a turnip?... I'll have a quick look...

Good, it's not just me then. I've noticed the past couple of months more and more AI crap and really nasty videos coming up on my feed. I've not interacted with anything that indicates I'm interested in that.

I follow local pages for events and fan pages for tv and films for the memes.

Something came up on my feed just the other day, someone in a boat filming a seal swimming round their boat, with literally the bottom half of its body missing after being attacked by a shark. Who the fuck wants to see that? Not me.
