WTF has happened to Facebook?

Well I know Facebook has pretty much had it's day anyway. But lately, my feed is full of the most disgusting, racist hate videos and also videos of dogs apparently on their last day before being put down. It's sick

I keep clicking 'not interested' but it just keeps on coming. Why the hell are those stupid videos on Facebook anyway??? It seems to be completely impossible to get rid of them.

Whenever I report anything, nothing is done about it. Now it appears to have taken over as a propaganda platform for the far right.

AIBU to think if Facebook need to get a grip on this?

I think it needs to he shut down, all be it temporarily until they can get a handle on all the crap.

Not to mention the stupid videos of women cleaning their kitchens! What is the actual point?

I would love to leave it but I’m on a couple Sen parents/ home school groups that aren’t anywhere else.

I recently joined an animal group for research because dd1 wanted one as a pet and there were some really disturbing violent videos of people setting each other on fire. I don’t know if they were real or AI but it made me feel quite sick. I left the group because I kept reporting them and nothing happened.

OxfordInkling · 24/02/2025 19:45

I dont have this problem. I get posts from my groups and family/friends.

UnhappyAndYouKnowIt · 24/02/2025 19:46

It's odd, I'm not seeing the same thing. (Except for a distant relative who supports Trump). Most of my feed is the usual cat jokes, classic art memes and community projects. If anything it leans left.

X, on the other hand...

AnneLovesGilbert · 24/02/2025 19:46

I can’t relate to this at all. I get sewing videos, stuff relating to my work, parenting stuff. It’s gentle, relevant, interesting and completely inoffensive.

Petuniaspetal · 24/02/2025 19:46

Zuckerberg is a simp just like bezos musk etc they make me sick. Zuckerberg a jew who is sucking up to the nazi salute guys. How low can you sink.

Isnt it interesting that the most vocal of pushbacks are coming from women (the governor of Maine...Mills? ) ...and the republicans are supposed to be the party of strong 'masculinity'. Anyone see the video of 3 or 4 men removing a woman from a TOWN HALL meeting for asking a couple of awkward questions. So much for free speech, and the first amendment. Absolutely disgusting. I hope she sues them all.

GoldfinchFeather · 24/02/2025 19:48

It's garbage. Endless AI generated shite (that a worrying number of people are too thick to realise is AI), people selling utter crap on the marketplace, the usual career-moaners on local groups (moaning about someone letting a firework off, someone's dog barking, someone playing music too loudly etc etc) interspersed with people sharing posts about someone's dog or cat that's gone missing at the other end of the country or another country altogether.

Honestly, just delete it.

pwish · 24/02/2025 19:48

I dont have this problem. I get posts from my groups and family/friends.

Absolutely nothing sponsored or suggested?

JustSawJohnny · 24/02/2025 19:48

Yup, me too.

My page is just awash with alt-right bollox and blatant propaganda. Really racist or blatantly pro Russia, misogyny, anti-abortion, Christian or Republican bollox.

If it wasn't the main way I keep in contact with some family members I'd be logging out for good, as I did with Twitter a while back.

Zuckerberg is kissing Trump's arse in the hopes of getting some of those Elon perks so it's no wonder, I suppose.

It is criminal that social media is brain-washing people, though. It's very worrying and needs dealing with.

WingingItSince1973 · 24/02/2025 19:51

I'm not seeing any of this stuff. My feed is mainly homes, crafts, art and friends and family. If there's an ad I don't like I just click on the option to not see anymore of those types of ads.

LoveFridaynight · 24/02/2025 19:51

I don't have an issue with Facebook either. Most stuff is from friends or family and a couple of groups that I've signed up too.

Itsfiiiine · 24/02/2025 19:52

NormasArse · 24/02/2025 19:36

How do you save what you’ve posted? I’ve used it as a diary for so many years - serves me right for being so lazy, I suppose. But I’d hate to lose all of that. My feed is just adverts now- no horrid stuff, but nothing really from my friends either.

Settings and privacy, meta account centre, then 'more in meta account centre ' I think, then it'll give you the option to download.

shivermetimbers77 · 24/02/2025 19:53

This is disturbing to hear. Weirdly, I'm not finding this with my feed so far but I wonder if it's only a matter of time now they've stopped moderating it.. I use FB regularly but only for keeping up with friends abroad and am also part of a number of private Facebook groups linked to my job and also other 'fun' groups like the Style me Happy and Sali Hughes ones, which are lovely little oases of goodness in the cesspool of the internet.. I get a few annoying adverts and lots of animal memes but haven't seen anything offensive.. yet..will definitely leave if I start getting loads of fascist nonsense being thrown at me though!

Zanatdy · 24/02/2025 19:54

I don’t find mine to be that bad. I don’t use it like I used to, and do like instagram these days. I use it mainly for some groups I am in, and they are generally fine as not the type of groups that are full of negative comments. The reels are generally things it thinks you like, and I guess comes from things you watch / search up, but the algorithm
isn’t always right. It is voluntary SM though, you’re not obliged to use it

TrainTicket · 24/02/2025 19:54

I think you should be more worried if you post your photos on there, after all they own your photos when they are on there, and Facebook is a cesspit, your photos could be used for anything.

Only stuff of the kind I go looking for anyway - local family events, mountain warehouse, camping…

Maybe it’s a settings issue.

crockofshite · 24/02/2025 19:43

I have family and friends around the world and we still use it a bit to keep in touch/connected.

the marketplace is useful for getting rid of things , people will take your unwanted stuff saving you the bother of a trip to the dump.

But it's a horrible place to linger and I wish there was a decent alternative.

I think WhatsApp private message group is better - if you create various groups with your relatives and share your stories and photos and info on that it works and I find I don’t miss FB.

Davros · 24/02/2025 19:56

I don't have a problem 🤞 I don't post much, very rarely. I don't know if that makes a difference

kierenthecommunity · 24/02/2025 19:57

I seemed to get nothing but AI pics of the royal family (mainly the Wales parents and kids) but they seem to have died out.

Then it was AI pictures of triplets with loads of fingers as kids and as 90 year olds.

Now it’s similar but with married couples 70 years apart. Including a very random one of Angela Lansbury and her husband (who died in 2002) celebrating 70 years of marriage

All very odd 😬

PoshHorseyBird · 24/02/2025 19:59

I'm glad it's not just me. All I get are endless adverts, despite blocking them all, more pop up. I rarely see any posts from friends or family just more bloody adverts! Wondering if its worth deleting it to be honest.

BigDecisionWorthIt · 24/02/2025 20:00

UnhappyAndYouKnowIt · 24/02/2025 19:46

Same here.

I'm guessing for me it could be because FB is tailoring what I see from what I look at. So currently gym stuff, houses, food and cars.

Lilyhatesjaz · 24/02/2025 20:01

I get mainly adverts for books and cat videos. I hardly ever post anything myself and most of my friends are the same. I have not had anything offensive yet.

B1indEye · 24/02/2025 20:05

I dont recognise a lot of the descriptions either, I get local groups I'm in and posts from friends.

No AI or anything political, the algorithm suggests things it can't possibly think I'm interested in but I just cancel them and they go away

Instagram on the other hand suggests some very gross reels that from the thumb nails I'm scared to click on

heartsinvisiblefury · 24/02/2025 20:05

It was so full of ads and irrelevant stuff that I just got fed up and deleted it. Also whenever anything is reported Facebook never seems to have any issues.

ShatParp · 24/02/2025 20:08

It's interesting that there's such a variation. I don't get anything nasty. I heard it works off what your friends look at so for those getting right wing stuff, might be worth a sneaky friend cull!!

I have all the privacy settings as tight as poss and I don't post anything at all. I use it on the browser, I don't have the app, don't know if that makes a difference?

I'd rather not use it but it's the best place to find local family events and a lot of small businesses only have a FB page, not an actual website.

Mingenious · 24/02/2025 20:09

I get loads of videos about horses, dogs, spot squeezing, dashcam stuff and black women having their hair done… I’m not black so no idea how their algorithms have decided I might find them useful 🤣 I’ve never got anything racist or violent. Reels are indeed horribly addictive!!

I mostly use Facebook for hobby stuff now. Very few of my friends use it nowerdays. I’d probably delete it if I didn’t use it for booking on events every weekend. I only really post photos on Instagram and then only hobby stuff.
