To be disgusted at the talks between Russia and the US

SunnyDayInFeb · 17/02/2025 08:58

So Russia and the US are meeting in Saudia Arabia to carve up Ukraine.

And Ukraine, whose people have been fighting and dying since their country was invaded, haven't even been invited to the table.

It's like we are back in the 19th century with the European colonial powers drawing lines on a map to divide Africa between them.

I doubt we can find anyone worst.
He has just catapulted Russia back to the cold war times. And us along.
He has an opposition inside Russia who he chokes by torture, imprissonment and murder. I do not think he has that many supporters, does he?

Hard to know what his support is like inside Russia for obvious reasons!

How reliable is it though? It's not a free country, after all.

MushMonster · 24/02/2025 20:51

Yes, I only hear of the opposition.
That is a rather too high % of approval, isn't it?
While they are at war, they would never publish much of the truth on opposition, internal disagreements or casualties.
I am off to check the press conderence with Trump and Macron, if I find it.

Well, exactly!

I find it more concerning that Putin only has 75% disapproval in the UK.

But, of course, we have Farage and the rest of Reform UK shilling for him. The prospect of a Reform government was scary enough before Trump won, but now we're facing the not-too-remote prospect of having a government that is compromised by a major adversary.

Just from today:

(Ex-Reform UK Wales leader accused of taking Russian-linked bribes)

@EasternStandard I watched the questions.
All very optimistic, very diplomatic. Miles to do with the rogue statements. It is like Trump uses crazy words like bullets that push mechanisms into action.
Still $$ talks on rare earths and finances for US, from both Ukraine and Russia. And the taking of Russian frozen assets , by Europe/ Ukraine, as part of negotiations. Recovery of land for Ukraine on the table. European troops as peace keepers in Ukraine, to ensure this ceasefire is a real one.
It sounds even optimistic!

They did mention around the million as casualties, a million! It breaks my heart.

MushMonster · 24/02/2025 21:48

I think Farage has "been accused" of saying something sensible today: he could not get behind one of the stupid accussations Trump threw to Zelensky. He said Zelensky is not a dictator.
It must be the only thing we agree with Farage on. Once in a lifetime.

Putin has killed two people on Brittish soil, severely affecting the health of innocents around. Sabotage, like explosives in warehouses. Hacked the NHS system, affecting patients blood tests. Between others. How can anyone not be against this man?

@MushMonster it was very interesting

The million deaths is so awful, incomprehensible Sad

MushMonster · 24/02/2025 22:13

😭😭😭😭
Let's hope all these talks are the end of it.

OneLemonDog · 24/02/2025 22:21

In addition to the deaths, there are the ~20,000 Ukranian children kidnapped by Russia. I fear they may forgotten about in all this.

MushMonster · 24/02/2025 22:39

20000! I did not know there so many of them! I wish they find them! They do say at least some have been given in adoption, what will make getting them back rather difficult.

Llttledrummergirl · 24/02/2025 22:44

A kidnapping of children should be easily resolved. You find them and return them.

Former MI6 on interrupting slowly losing a war not a bad thing but US should be aware of how much more powerful they are than Russia

See I am always very wary of the UK trying to wrangle America into the wars they want to wage. Seems to happen A LOT.

🤣 wow really! Clueless

MushMonster · 25/02/2025 07:05

I would say is US who leads the way to wars. UK follows, without being asked. Why? To be honest, this question is starting to make some sense, in light of the harsh statements and some US generals speeches.
The concept of US as military leader and always friend may have started its end.

We do it, or did it, because we wanted them to return the favour should we need it.

We do still want their help, and it's no small thing.

The security guarantee. I wouldn't say Trump has offered this and he won't care if we send peacekeepers without it but we will.

MushMonster · 25/02/2025 07:59

I know that was the reason. But the doubts of whether Trump values the long peace and collaboration mindset of the past are there now.
Of course, I do still want it to continue. But maybe chill it for Trump's term if it is going to drag us along some stupid paths.

EasternStandard · 25/02/2025 08:15

@MushMonster I think we are on the same lines

When Trump said yeh yeh peacekeeper troops fine and sure Putin said it was ok, I doubt the security guarantee and that Putin said that already

The same evening the UN vote went ahead which shows division

MushMonster · 25/02/2025 08:43

Crossing my fingers for a ceasefire. And an end to it.

That's the end goal can't help but feel Trump and his mates are going to score big time with mineral contracts and that the real motivator for Trump.

Deedeesharpwhatkindoflady · 25/02/2025 09:30

I should have said, ceasefire end of war is what most would hope happens.
Trump and his kind it's all about the Dollar.Fed up of every utterance he makes as shit flow's out of his mouth.
Ukraine the aggressor... hardly!!

EasternStandard · 25/02/2025 09:32

It is likely a major motivator, although just letting millions more die isn't good so could be a factor

It could actually be enough, Ukraine is in a terrible position and will have to give a lot but it may end due to rare minerals

My initial thought was no way would you trust them but maybe there'll be enough economic interest to hold

The small amount of peacekeepers will just be for European leaders to look like they're contributing

bemoresloth · 25/02/2025 09:58

'just letting people die'

Are you sure you want to phrase it like that?

Putin could just stop killing people.

Re write in the words you want if you have an issue.

Yes Putin could stop, that's a good suggestion which no one has thought of. How are you getting that to happen?
