To ask how to best handle this car blocking my drive?

Parkingdrama00 · 16/02/2025 14:07

I live near to a football stadium and the team are currently playing. Somebody has parked right across my drive and blocked me in. I assume they have gone the match.

You need a residents pass to park round here and it doesn't look like they have one. Looks like I'm trapped until they come back.

What's best to do? Can I report them to the council? Leave a note? Confront them upon their return. Or is all of that pointless?

I wanted to go to the supermarket which will likely be closed by the time they're back.

Are they blocking your access to the highway?

Are they blocking your access to the highway?

Yep literally blocked the whole drive, I can't get out onto the road.

Take photographs while it's there so you have evidence to report it.

ChompandaGrazia · 16/02/2025 14:10

You could try the council, but they are most likely not open today.
Could you call the football ground and ask them to put out a tannoy announcement? It would be a shame if you got confused and got them to say all the windows had been smashed rather than it was blocking a drive.

What else do you think "this car is blocking my drive" means?! Confused

Doloresparton · 16/02/2025 14:11

I would take a photo and send it to the council parking dept.

Weddingbells6 · 16/02/2025 14:11

Revenge. You can’t get out now regardless of whether you report it or not, just go and scratch it in an obvious way (assuming neighbours don’t have CCTV and that they can clearly see they’re blocking your drive and car) so they think twice next time. Absolutely horrible, selfish thing to do, you could have had a hospital appt or any number of urgent things to do. A&E with a vulnerable child etc. I’m not joking btw or having bravado.

mitogoshigg · 16/02/2025 14:11

If you cannot get off your drive you can call the non emergency police number and they can get it towed. If you want to get onto your drive there's nothing you can do

LlamaDharma · 16/02/2025 14:11

Our council has a number you can call for things like this. Check your council website.

mitogoshigg · 16/02/2025 14:13

I've had to do this, a tow truck turned up within 30 minutes, doesn't cost the police because the culprit has to pay to get their car back. Might vary by police force

ChompandaGrazia · 16/02/2025 14:14

Non emergency police number is a good shout. Do it!

Parkingdrama00 · 16/02/2025 14:19

Ooh ok I'm gonna ring now. They are most likely from out of town so that will be a big inconvenience. We do get some selfish parking here on match days but this takes the biscuit.

There's a car park around the corner but it's £20 so I guess they're too tight to pay it.

On my street call council and they come out and issue ticket

pimplebum · 16/02/2025 14:22

If council issues ticket it’s not traceable to your address

but I’d be tempted to put note to the effect you needed to get taxi to waitress job , elderly relatives, dying friend in hospital etc

Do this, & let us all know how you get on, the selfish gits! I'm fuming for you, get your own back 😡

TouchOfSilverShampoo · 16/02/2025 14:24

I would call 101 and say that you have an elderly relative about to die in hospital and you're blocked in.
Ramp it up by saying it's not just an obstruction to your drive but also the road (that's an additional offense).
Selfish arseholes - really not acceptable.

RedRosesParmaViolets · 16/02/2025 14:24

I've known of tow trucks so try that 111 and say to police you've heard of towing

PonyPatter44 · 16/02/2025 14:24

Dont faff about with silly-arse pass-agg notes. Just call the police and get it towed. It doesnt matter whether you want to go to Sainsburys or A&E.

OurChristmasMiracle · 16/02/2025 14:26

I really hope it gets towed. It’s just such entitled selfish behaviour

Allthenameshavegone1972 · 16/02/2025 14:26

@pimplebum selfish gits like this won't give two hoots about a note. They know what they're doing is wrong, they just don't care. Hit them where it hurts, in the pocket & inconvenience them. It might make them think twice in the future!

Keepingittogetherstepbystep · 16/02/2025 14:27

Ring the club, they'll usually put a tannoy announcement out. I've been at Anfield in the past when there's been an announcement.

My sibling used to live near a stadium and said its happened frequently. Some football fans are incredibly inconsiderate.

ChompandaGrazia · 16/02/2025 14:28

I agree. They are clearly a twat so a note will just get binned. Getting it towed will him them where it hurts.

Seeline · 16/02/2025 14:28

I'm assuming you have a proper dropped kerb that they have parked across?
If so, I would try the police.

It does vary. Here’s a link OP, if you haven’t found out already, you can check if it’s the local authority or police in your area.

So I rang the none emergency police number. They've said since it's blocking me in they will see if they the resources to get it towed and somebody will get back to me.

I milked it a bit saying I need to care for my elderly Mum. Only a slight fib as I was planning on getting her some shopping anyway.

I'll keep you updated!
