To ask how to best handle this car blocking my drive?

Parkingdrama00 · 16/02/2025 14:07

I live near to a football stadium and the team are currently playing. Somebody has parked right across my drive and blocked me in. I assume they have gone the match.

You need a residents pass to park round here and it doesn't look like they have one. Looks like I'm trapped until they come back.

What's best to do? Can I report them to the council? Leave a note? Confront them upon their return. Or is all of that pointless?

I wanted to go to the supermarket which will likely be closed by the time they're back.

Ring the club, they'll usually put a tannoy announcement out. I've been at Anfield in the past when there's been an announcement.

My sibling used to live near a stadium and said its happened frequently. Some football fans are incredibly inconsiderate.

A similar thing happens to me almost every match day. I've had it with football supporters.

I did report to the council and a parking warden was out and about for the next home game resulting in a few tickets.

But I never thought of calling the ground - thank you for that tip.

Hmm interesting. It is actually Anfield. Although now I want them to get towed 😂

Our council have a number for the traffic wardens.

They are always happy to oblige with a ticket.

What else do you think "this car is blocking my drive" means?! Confused

Could mean 'I am on the road and cannot access my drive'.

Legally, being unable to get off your drive onto the road is a problem that can be dealt with. However being unable to get ON your driveway from the road is not.

boymama82 · 16/02/2025 14:35

Oooh I do hope it gets towed!! Idiots 🤬

Revenge. You can’t get out now regardless of whether you report it or not, just go and scratch it in an obvious way (assuming neighbours don’t have CCTV and that they can clearly see they’re blocking your drive and car) so they think twice next time. Absolutely horrible, selfish thing to do, you could have had a hospital appt or any number of urgent things to do. A&E with a vulnerable child etc. I’m not joking btw or having bravado.

FFS Don't do this.
No normal individual does this.

user1492757084 · 16/02/2025 14:37

Take note of the number plate and walk to the stadium and have the footy match PA system announce for the car owner to come and remove their car immediately.
I have heard that type of announcement a couple of times myself.

NormalForNorfoIk · 16/02/2025 14:38

I am overly invested in whether a tow truck turns up. It'll cost them more than the £20 they were too tight to pay for the car park!
(And I bet they didn't think twice about paying out for the match tickets.)

mummyh2016 · 16/02/2025 14:39

Ring the club, DH has the match on so I'll listen out for any tannoy announcements Grin

MonetWaterlilies · 16/02/2025 14:39

I really hope they get towed!

JSMill · 16/02/2025 14:39

I'd be livid if I were you. They're unlikely to be back before 4 and the supermarket will be closed by then.

icecreamscoops · 16/02/2025 14:41

I hope it gets towed before the match ends! What an absolute tool

friendlycat · 16/02/2025 14:44

I hope someone comes and tows it away. People need a harsh lesson to see they can’t do this without consequences.

Get them towed, THEN call Anfield with the number plate to let them know it has already been towed. That will hopefully ruin the match for them!

19lottie82 · 16/02/2025 14:48

what brainless idiot would block someone’s drive, especially blocking in a car? Hopefully the tow truck arrives before they get back. It would be absolutely joyful if they arrived just as the tow truck was driving away! 😂

Sammysquiz · 16/02/2025 14:49

Although you’re totally doing the right thing, I’d be a bit nervous about repercussions to you or your property when they get back and find it towed. Will you be on your own when the match finishes?

LittleRedRidingHoody · 16/02/2025 14:52

Really invested in the outcome of this 👀

Americano75 · 16/02/2025 14:52

Oh, I hope they tow it. Second half hasn't even started yet so plenty of time.

They can just deny any knowledge.

"Ohhh well there was a car blocking my drive earlier but I assumed the owner moved it as any illegally parked cars always get towed on match days."

TheMeasure · 16/02/2025 14:52

@WiddlinDiddlin The clue was in the words, "I'm blocked in" and "looks like I'm trapped."

"Nothing to do with me lad..... but now you mention it, I did see a couple of PCSO's walking down the street...."

ThejoyofNC · 16/02/2025 14:54

What an absolute arsehole. I am hoping they get towed!

Live Parking Thread

<settles in>

Odds on Bet he'll (assuming it is a He) will tell you that Dave told him it was ok to park across his drive/his Aunts drive/his SIL drive but he has got the wrong number and Dave/Daves Aunt/Dave's SIL actually lives at number 6 , and you are number 16 .

Annoying but probably a (fairly) innocent but careless mistake rather than "I;m going to save myself £20 AND piss this this person off into the bargain"

<Disclaimer> I am not watching a football match right now (or chasing a tow truck)

murasaki · 16/02/2025 14:55

Definitely get it towed first then call Anfield. That would be funny.

Theuniversalshere1 · 16/02/2025 14:55

mitogoshigg · 16/02/2025 14:11

If you cannot get off your drive you can call the non emergency police number and they can get it towed. If you want to get onto your drive there's nothing you can do

This. State an emergency!
