To wonder what would happen if LL were ever released?

I'm not intending to state whether I think she is innocent or guilty but I am just curious as to how her life would look if she were released.
Even if her conviction was overturned, it's highly unlikely she'd be able to go back to a regular life, or would she? Would she walk away with no convictions?

Surely it would be similar to Louise Woodward?

nahthatsnotforme · 06/02/2025 19:29

I presume she'd need a complete change of identity and a massive compensation package

There will always be those who believe she was guilty no matter what and she would be hounded by them, or worse.

If she is innocent her life is ruined anyway

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 06/02/2025 19:30

I guess Witness Protection, or whatever the UK equivalent is.

BIossomtoes · 06/02/2025 19:31

Change of identity and instant removal to another part of the world. She wouldn’t last two minutes in the UK.

Dora26 · 06/02/2025 19:32

Who is L L - am not in UK

I don’t know if it would. For one thing this isn’t on the same scale, and LW was convicted of manslaughter not murder, she was very young and inexperienced and not a trained professional. She also got to return home to the UK where she seemingly had her entire hometown protesting her innocence. Not the same at all.

I suspect LL would have to be given a new identity like Maxine Carr.

Anonymous2003 · 06/02/2025 19:34

She could never show her face ever again.
Whether she is innocent or guilty, I feel so sorry for her parents. I can't imagine how much their lives have been ruined by this. I'm sure they have lost a lot of friends and their community.

Astrak · 06/02/2025 19:34

As above.

Anonymous2003 · 06/02/2025 19:35

@Dora26 Lucy Letby

Palsywalsy · 06/02/2025 19:35

If she was found innocent and it’s a miscarriage of justice why would she need a new identity?

BIossomtoes · 06/02/2025 19:39

Palsywalsy · 06/02/2025 19:35

Because some people will never believe her to be innocent and some of those people are violent and would take the law into their own hands.

Because even if her convictions are overturned some people won’t believe that and I don’t think she could necessarily be safe living in the UK for being hounded.

Not2identifying · 06/02/2025 19:41

I don't think she'd get compensation even if later found not guilty. Unless maybe the NHS was subsequently found guilty of something like corporate manslaughter.

user243245346 · 06/02/2025 19:44

I think she would need a new identity. The more I read about it, the more it looks like a cover up. If it was she would get compensation.

Sadly I'm not sure if she could recover- it reminds me of the case of Sally Clark.

Supersimkin7 · 06/02/2025 19:45

Huge payout, relocation, new id.

She’d be found, they always are.

Generally looking like she was used as a cover up for repeated bad medical care in the unit.

I agree new id but not fair to compare to Carr if LL is cleared. Carr was guilty.

Yes she definitely was, although not of murder.

LL might well be guilty- she has been found so by a jury after an incredibly long trial. The conviction being overturned (I doubt this would happen) will not be proof of innocence.

Mumsgirls · 06/02/2025 20:03

The Birmingham six and other victims of miscarriages of justice did not have to hide away. They were vindicated and the so called evidence was hokum. Lucy Letby should be the same, if pronounced innocent.

Snorlaxo · 06/02/2025 20:08

Since Thompson and Venables have had their identities leaked online many times, Letby would have hers leaked too imo. She obviously couldn’t return to a public facing job so would probably end up being a hermit who WFH because there would definitely be people who harassed her in real life or online.

I think that there would be people who disclosed her location because there’s a kudos of breaking a story online and there’s so many internet true crime detectives around. For example did the ones creating Nicola Bulley content face any consequences ?

PrimitivePerson · 06/02/2025 20:12

If Letby was released, I'd be afraid if I happened to look a bit like her. Several women have been attacked by vigilantes because they look like Maxine Carr.

Snorlaxo · 06/02/2025 20:20

Just remembered Amanda Knox who seems to be safe living as herself and even being papped and featuring on tv documentaries . 🤔

SabandBraddy · 06/02/2025 20:22

It’s funny how people always bring Maxine Carr up. She’s local to me and everyone knows it’s her. Not “is just guessing” - it is actually her. They get a change of identity not a new face !
