To think bums should be covered in a public pool?

I may be being unreasonable and I’m just old and out of touch… took my kids swimming today at our local public pool and there was a lady wearing one of those swimming costumes that is basically a thong at the back? I saw lots of them in the beach during the summer which I kind of understand as it helps you get a very high cut tan/eliminates tan lines but I felt a bit weird seeing one in an indoor pool? Not sure where boundaries lie…? Happy to be told IABU but wondered what others think?

I agree - they’re revolting and I always metaphorically clutch my pearls when I see them!

Someonelookedatmypostinghistorysoichanged · 26/01/2025 16:23

I agree. But I’m also old and old of touch. Of course people should bare their arse in public if they want to 🤥

Weyohweyoh · 26/01/2025 16:24

I really don’t want to see someone else’s arse cheeks in this context either.

DazedAndConfused321 · 26/01/2025 16:25

I feel like I should be ok with it because it's just a body part, but I would be uncomfortable seeing bare arses in a pool. On a beach is less weird but I still find that a bit grim

rainythursdayontheavenue · 26/01/2025 16:30

I don't understand what anyone thinks is attractive about it - even the most pert lovely bottom looks disformed with a cheesewire sticking through the middle of it. In public pools it's just grim and exhibitionist.

MatildaTheCat · 26/01/2025 16:31

I belong to a club with a nice spa and trust me they are commonplace and I agree they are not suitable for a family club (albeit the spa area is adults only but a vast range of people).

However I have to accept that I’m probably just being a prude and should accept my role as a very elderly extra on Love Island 😆

Vicliz24 · 26/01/2025 16:32

It always amazes me that topless sunbathing is now frowned upon and yet everyone has their arse hanging out . On 99.9 % it's just not a good look .

boringday · 26/01/2025 16:33

Yeah not very pleasant or hygienic, I don't think dh or ds would feel comfortable with me wearing that.

ClioMuse · 26/01/2025 16:33

That costume may have contravened the pool policy - I've seen guidance that excludes thong swimwear.

Busywithsomething · 26/01/2025 16:33

Another old fogey here too. I find it grim as well. I don't want to see people's arses exposed. Also I don't like women's cleavage too much. Keep it for your partner's eyes. Not mine.

HoraceCope · 26/01/2025 16:35

i dont think they can ban them though

Thisisthemomentforchange · 26/01/2025 16:35

Tbh I have a real issue with the hygiene of thongs.
I wouldn't want to swim in a swimming pool where people were going in the water wearing thong type swim wear.

I know realistically people urinate in pools and thats bad enough but the thought of people swimming without their bums being covered repulses me.

Sheknowsaboutme · 26/01/2025 16:35

The same with those arse enhancing leggings. Just dont🤮

MrsSkylerWhite · 26/01/2025 16:35

Agree with everyone, they’re horrible.

WGACA · 26/01/2025 16:36

I agree! They're horrid!

Dandylione · 26/01/2025 16:37

I'm not a fan for indoor pools it seems weird to me (I'm in my 40s). I don't think there's a hygiene issue though - arse cheeks aren't less hygienic than thighs or any other part really.

Frankinator · 26/01/2025 16:38

Sheknowsaboutme · 26/01/2025 16:35

So glad it's not just me. I really don't need to see every curve and detail of someone's entire bottom area.

MabelMoo23 · 26/01/2025 16:39

Yep agree absolutely unnecessary.

on the beach in the Caribbean fine, in a leisure centre in Birmingham? Not so much

SittingNextToIt · 26/01/2025 16:40

Fully agreed OP. There's also a larger issue here - why/how have we arrived at fashion that's okay and encouraging of women to display arses but we'd be very much taken aback if men's swimwear of that nature was widely available mainstream.

I often compare boys shorts and girls shorts and wonder why - just why - are 10 year old girls offered the invitation to wear much tinier shorts than 10 year old boys.

Anyone guess?

Hoppinggreen · 26/01/2025 16:41

DD18 wears brazillian bikini bottoms on holiday but in a spa she wears something more appropriate.
No need for arse showing in indoor pools

CherryFlan · 26/01/2025 16:41

No problem with this.

ThriveIn2025 · 26/01/2025 16:43

I also agree. My DC were like 😳 last time we went swimming as a family. It was a graduated pool and as the girl walked in her bum was face level with a lot of kids. Not cool.

ThriveIn2025 · 26/01/2025 16:44

Oh and I had to shush my son from saying “butt cheeks” repeatedly.

LadyWiddiothethird · 26/01/2025 16:44

I am a member at David Lloyd, just had a new spa retreat open. Some of the women wear the most hideous costumes, tiny bit of material shoved up their arse and the boobs spilling out everywhere, they look hysterical to me,but of course it gets the attention of men.

The women that wear a one piece time look a million times better.

I joined many years ago,it was Esporta back then and women had to wear a one piece costume.I am old so don’t think my opinion would count for anything!

Yogaatsunrise · 26/01/2025 16:44

I wonder why anyone would walk around looking like that. Someone wore this and bent down on holiday and my god I’ll never recover from what I sore (sic) inadvertently.
