Just that! I had such a great run and now I seem to have hit a wall. Do you use the same one every time? Do you ever use pen and paper alongside? It's cheeky I know I'm being unreasonable I'm also just curious!

Completely different random word every day. I used to have the same word but it got boring.

FancyBiscuitsLevel · 26/01/2025 13:58

CLEAR - if I get no letters from that, second guess is always POINT. If on the rare occasion I don’t get anything from either of those, it’s MUSHY as guess 3.

TyneTeas · 26/01/2025 13:59

Adieu and then pilot to cover the vowels

Merrygoround8 · 26/01/2025 13:59

Audio, and then Crest (even if it is clear from first guess it won’t be Crest). Those are most common letters. From there I tend to have a good idea and generally get it in 4, sometimes 3!

alibongo5 · 26/01/2025 13:59

I always start with stare as it's got the most common letters in it. If none of those are in the word, my second word is pound. I'm on a good streak of 88 at the moment, including stare coming up so getting it in one!

Smallinthesmoke · 26/01/2025 14:00

Vague or Ocean
Sometimes Adieu or Audio

mumofoneAlonebutokay · 26/01/2025 14:01

Juice

Deerrobin · 26/01/2025 14:01

It was stare but now that’s one up I need to find a new one I like, trying different ones out at the moment.

Adieu and then pilot to cover the vowels

I've just done the one on Mumsnet Puzzle page as an example https://www.mumsnet.com/puzzles/guessword

Mine is always HEART.

I've never got it first time but my DS was saying yesterday that he had to change his routine starting word, because he got it first time a few months ago!

ohLordWntYouBouyMe · 26/01/2025 14:02

I always start with AUDIO and then depending on what I get from that, normally something like SHARE or STARE to cover off the E. The Wordlbot tells me that it normally starts with CRANE, and even though that is a robot designed to win Wordl I still believe that AUDIO is a better starting word.

ChristmasPostman · 26/01/2025 14:02

YABVU and I’m not telling! I always use the same first one and most often the same second one too, depending on results of the first word. This approach will lead to good runs and testing runs!

WinchSparkle80 · 26/01/2025 14:02

ARISE then if nothing MOUTH

Elisheva · 26/01/2025 14:02

Adieu and then sport

StillSmallVoice · 26/01/2025 14:02

Crane, split and bough. That gets all the vowels and quite a few common letters. If only one vowel pops up in that lot, chances are there's a y somewhere.

MyDadLovedBlondieToo · 26/01/2025 14:03

I change it every day to something relevant. It’s the first part of the challenge 😁 Today it was RAINS…

Watto1 · 26/01/2025 14:03

Sport. I like to get consonants first. My first word used to be strap but that came up - my only time getting it in one!

Arran2024 · 26/01/2025 14:03

SPORT then CHIME if none of those.

Rocknrollstar · 26/01/2025 14:05

ADIEU then shore, start, stare depending on what letters were correct

ChimpanzeeThatMonkeyNews · 26/01/2025 14:05

RAISE.

PickAChew · 26/01/2025 14:06

I occasionally play quordle or octordle and use PIOUS then TRADE for the vowels plus R, S and T.

BeanAround · 26/01/2025 14:07

According to the wordl bot, the top 10 most frequently used starter words are:

Adieu
Audio
Stare
Raise
Crane
Slate
Arise
Train
Irate
Great

personally I like to pick a word at random as it’s more fun that way.

WrylyAmused · 26/01/2025 14:07

Trend, then shoal for letter frequencies. I think consonants are more useful to know than the vowels.

Crochetpenguin · 26/01/2025 14:08

Audio then tyres

mandarinchocolate · 26/01/2025 14:08

ADIEU
Covers 4 vowels
